I really could use all of your help and advice on how to handle my problem.
So I'm getting married in September (WooHoo) and I'm really trying to stay ahead of the plans with summer coming and everything.
Anyway, I had the idea of buying truffle size boxes in a white glossy finish and I purchased a personalize stamp with our names and wedding date to stamp on the truffle boxes. I was told since the boxes are in a glossy finish that I really should use a craft ink pad...which I have also purchased.
I tried to stamp on a box last night and since the box is in a glossy white finish the stamp moves when I try to stamp the box. It makes the letters look bunched together and it just doesn't look right, if you have ever had a stamp move on you that should not have.
Does anyone have any advice on how to make the boxes look good and not have the stamp move on me?? I really don't want to have to buy pre-printed boxes since I have purchased plain white boxes and the personalized stamp already...I want to get my use out of those items since I can't return them!
Anyone with advice will be greatly appreicated!!!!

Natasha - i'm certainly not a stamping expert, and there are plenty on here who can provide advice as well, but the #1 thing [in my opinion] is to make sure you use a LIGHT pressure. instinct tells us to press hard to make sure all of the image gets stamped, but if it's a good quality stamp you really need just light pressure. that may help to keep the stamp from sliding on the glossy paper. HTH
I have no solid advice other than I'd say now that you tried one and aren't happy with the result, that you should use that first paper and practice to see what technique/pressure is going to work best for you
eta: if nothing else maybe you could find a nice paper to stamp on and attach it to the box

I'm with the others, perhaps a nice coordinating paper to match your wedding and tie it off with a pretty ribbon?

You could try StazOn ink. It would give you a nice image with very little pressure, it dries MUCH than craft and would be permanent. Only thing, the colors are limiting.
Stamping on the glossy boxes would be the same as stamping on glossy paper. Use a lighter pressure, but firm. I would not use a pigment ink. I would use a die ink. You may also need to heat set it for it to dry.
Be certain the boxes are perfectly flat when you go to stamp. The problem may also be that the folded box is moving a bit when you press down. Suggest you weight each box down firmly before stamping.
Steady hand, firm, even pressure, up and down stamping. Practice on glossy paper to get the hang of it, may help also.
Only alternative would be to use clear labels to stamp on then adhere to boxes. Would just look as if you had custom labels made for the boxes.
I can only offer these as suggestions based on my experiences. Other people may differ with me though.

Unfortunately, the individual that advised you to use a craft or pigment ink on a glossy surface didn't explain how difficult it can be to:
Get a clean, crisp impression; craft ink is thick and will slip and slide on a glossy surface, sometimes, even a matte surface, depending on how thickly it's been applied to the stamp.
That depending on the type of pigment ink, it may take an eternity to dry, if ever, unless heat embossed (that raised metallic effect you frequently see on imprinted store-bought cards and other paper goods like your boxes).
I actually attempted to do the same thing with a variety of pads. I ruined so many that I ended up just tying a ribbon and making a tag with a punch. They turned out very cute
Argg... I so feel for you .... don't you just hate it when you have a picture of what the project is supposed to look like and it doesn't no matter how hard you try? My best bet is always to try a totally different tack. So, I guess
I'd go with stamping on a separate paper and either gluing it on or using it as a tag too. Good luck!

I agree with above posters who said go the paper or label route.
I didn't want to spend $$ on labels either, so I found some blank round labels online, and designed my own - used an inkjet printer to print them all out!
here is a pic of my favor at my wedding from September 2007:
If you're absolutely set on stamping on the box, maybe you can use a stamp-a-ma-jig to help steady the stamp (I assume you are stamping the box while it is still flat). Congrats on your upcoming marriage!

You took the words right off my computer. I was going to suggest the same thing!!!
Congratulations and Good luck!
I want to thank everyone for all the wonderful advise and I will take it all into consideration when I attempt the boxes again.
I will be trying it again this weekend, with the help of a friend to see if we can get it to work correctly!!
Thank you so much to all of you! Its wonderful to have people take the time to help out a fellow SCS!!! Have a wonderfuly rest of the week!!
