This thread got me wishing I had a use for a planner. So I made "planner cards" for my chores instead. They're the same chores every week, but it's really the only "list" that I carry around in my head as I'm doing them.
for those of us retired; we don't need a planner as much. I think if I brought my ideas together; I would find enough uses for one I have made myself; rather then purchased.
There are enough printouts online to pique my interest. Here is one I came across that would be a nice idea; especially for us retired families with diets we should watch: http://www.homemadebycarmona.com/menu-planner/
what a magnificient organization plan; hope she doesn't mind it being shared

If any of you *really* want a planner but don't see a use for it... just think of it this way, you could plan out all the challenges you want to participate in! ;) Add the scrapbooking conventions, classes, workshops, make and takes, crops... your planner will be so full you will want a bigger one!
Lol I don't plan meals - ramen noodles and microwaved potatoes and cereal are good enough for me. And there's only one stamping convention a year... and every day I only ever look at the SCS daily challenges... My planner would still be pretty empty. I guess I could turn a planner into a wish list, with different categories (dies, stamps, paper, supplies, Calico Critters toys). THEN it would be huge!
Hey all you planner lovers, Simon Says Stamp is having a random give-away thing on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Simon...516206?fref=nf I commented. I said I don't actually use a planner but if I won I would use theirs.
I got hooked on using a planner at the end of the year. I felt like I needed to be more organized with my craft calendar along with my family life.
I'm retired so am not as detailed as I know some people need to be with busy work & children's schedules etc. I definitely helps with my personal life being able to log the few things I (& my family) still do.
I'm loving the planner as far as my craft calendar is concerned. I have everyone's birthday's & anniversaries logged & dates I need to mail cards. I have sections in the back of the planner where I write down all my thoughts & ideas on cards to make, to-do lists, blogs to read, etc. Also am enjoying decorating the pages with stickers & washi tape. So far so good I'm managing to keep focused on utilizing the planner & believe that it's helping me.
not seeing where this give away is. what day was it posted?

If any of you do mixed media you should check out Christy Tomlinson. She's recently got into the whole planning craze and has some pretty neat ideas. It's making me consider getting out my old Franklin Covey planner just for fun!
Love the term "free for all"! We're both retired, son and daughter in their 30's and years out of the house and we have 2 granddaughters. All we do with any serious regularity is excercise class 3 mornings a week and that hardly needs to be written down. Everything else gets noted on the yearly wall calendar, including birthdays.
On the other hand, a planner could be used to note little, everyday events, more like a diary or journal.
I enjoy discovering stories or records from family members who have passed on, learning or being reminded about their lives. Sometimes things change so gradually, we don't realize what will be unusual as time goes on.
For example, my mom (she passed away some time ago) kept a diary - 5 short lines each day. One entry read "called Aunt Marie long distance." Wow - times have changed from when calling long distance was a big event worth noting.
Just a thought for those that might find the planner idea fun, but feel they don't have things to include!
Love Love Love this new trend! I have always been a pen and paper kind of gal! I even had a planner in high school. Tried to embrace technology when the Palm Pilot came out and just couldn't do it. Now I can't go without my iPhone but still have a love for all things stationery. I've been on a scrapbook/stamping/crafting hiatus for 4 years so this new planner trend is awesome for me! My planner is a little bit planner/smashbook/journal. I carry mine with a few basic essentials in one of the smaller Thirty-One totes. I don't always carry it with me. I keep a small pouch in my purse if I want to collect things to save in the planner to "smash".
Considering I'm an SU demo...I have found some ways to incorporate SU into my new planner hobby. Making up kit ideas with SU product kinda like I did with SU & Project Life style three years before we got PL. I hope SU will get it's own planner line sooner than later. Especially planner stamps, in wood. A girl can dream. LOL.
Here are some of the ideas I have put together using SU product.
Supply section at end of post shows
4 stamp sets for dates, activities & icons
3 die sets for planner page, page edges & page tabs
A planner would make a great Christmas gift and not just for current activities. I can see one to keep track of all the important dates in a family for birthdays, anniversaries, etc. that you need to make a card for. Or one as a reference for significant milestone dates within a family... births, deaths, graduations, promotions, weddings, etc.
I am currently using my Websters Pages Color Crush personal planner, along with the Simple Stories Life Documented planner and SS supplies. Loving both! I am in the middle of a corporate relocation (number four in the past ten years), and the planners have been a Godsend. Not to mention that I have very little time to craft, and when I do, I have to keep it all neat. So most of my crafting has been in my planners. Easy and neat!
I am a NEW EC Planner fan and I LOVE IT! I just added my washi and updates for April today. Love having the color and esp the Erasble PENS...oh those are my faves. I doodle all over, add stickies and can always find the info I need
Lifesavers for me was the ability to add pages I love this planner idea

I believe the PTI version is similar to the Erin Condren. Not only can you add pages, but they even sell the dies to let you make the pages (and tabs) yourself.
Have you checked out Day Designer planners? Similar to Erin Condren.
I need to start looking for some teacher/lesson planners for next year. Anyone have some links to good products / blogs that appeal to teacher/homeschool planners?

Oh yes. The Frixion erasable pens from Pilot were life changing for me! I tend to write faster than my brain computes, and thus make mistakes all the time. Now I need them in every color!

YUP...YUP.... I admit. Once I tried them and fell in love, I did order a couple more packages and have lots of colors

I am definitely NOT on the planner bandwagon but I don't begrudge others who are.
Although beautiful and expressive, I see it as hugely burdensome in a world where I already don't have enough time to scrap. Spending so much time (and $$$) on planner-ing would keep me from doing the things I'm planner-ing about.
And I know me....I would jump into it in January with gusto and then come March my excitement would peter out until all that is left is regret and bitterness as I look at the growing-dusty planner as just ONE MORE thing demanding my already limited time resources.
Thankfully, for the retailers, people like me are not their target audience. =)
I'm glad it is out there for those who desire a creative outlet. But if it is truly for organizing your life in a pretty way, I don't see how it will be sustainable. I would love to hear back in 6 months from those who are using it for organization to see how they successfully fit it in to their daily/weekly/monthly routine. I don't doubt it can be sustained, *I* just don't see how and would love the chance to learn from those who do it successfully.
Hey, all you planner lovers... A Cherry On Top is having a Freebie Friday. You can comment for a chance to win their gold-accessories planner. https://www.facebook.com/acherryontopcrafts?fref=nf
Look for the Friday April 3rd post.
Planners can be whatever you want them to be. They can be used to organize and keep appointments and important dates, sure. But a lot of people use them as journals, or as smash books, places to write down card sketches and design ideas, as art journals, and so forth. The sky's the limit!
Any cute A5 planners out there that aren't 100 dollars like Filofax? I like the webster's planner, but I am afraid the size will be too small. I like Erin Condren, but I am not sure I want a coil planner where I can't move things around. Plus, I am worried I will get addicted, and then not want to pay full price next year .
We've been noticing how popular planners are too! It's like a new form of crafting in itself. The events of our days fill up the pages and this can be done in an artistic way.
So, which type of markers would you use in a planner so they don't bleed through the pages? Do these planner brands come with special markers?

I saw a video on the Erasable ones and I ordered from A*. They are AWESOME! I am hooked. My planner has all sorts of colorful notes, doodles etc ... and they're really easy to use because they're erasable ....

I ordered items off amazon to make an Avery mini binder planner. I got everything I need for 16 dollars! I am going to use scrapbook paper and such to pretty it up.
