I really like the bits and pieces in Hodgepodge Hardware but I honestly feel it's overpriced. Has anyone found a place where you can get similar items for a lower price?
Michaels has certain pieces that are in the kit... But let me tell you the kit is definately NOT over priced! You really get a lot for your money and I'm not just saying that because I'm a demo. I would suggest you going to Michaels or your LSS to see the value that Hodgepodge Hardware has. Many places sell one piece of the hardware for $5.00 with only about 12-15 ea. With the many different types included in the Kit - bookplates (oval & rectangular), clips (square, circle, swirlies) buckles (small, med, large) photo tabs (two different types) and after all this you also get the brads and a SU! tin. It's definately worth your money.
Before I was a demo (about 1 yr ago) I worked at recollections and even with the employee discount, a package of the circle paper clips was $4.50 for 20 of them. Brads run between $2 - $5 depending on the brand and quantity.
Like I said, take a stroll to your LSS and you'll see that the prices for SU! (for all products) are the same and in most cases better!
From paper, to envelopes, to stamps and accessories - SU! gives retail stores a run for their money.
TAC carries a hardware stamp set that is kinda nifty because you can emboss it or stamp in any color to match (it has 8 different stamps in it)...and, Sizzix carries a die that is called Hinges and Latches which I also like to use.
I too used to be one of those believers that it's 'overpriced' but I have to tell you, I searched high and low for cheaper hardware and couldn't touch what was in the kit. I also love that the pieces all co-oridinate (buckels, clips, brads so on). I do not horde my hardware. Use it when the mood hits me and I haven't really made a dent in it. It is fabulous. The HH does not compare to the sizzix or and other stamp set that you can cut. The real deal is very much worth it.
The SU! kit is awesome, but I wish there were refills offered!!! I often end up using all of something with a lot left of others. I have suggested it to SU! and haven't listened yet. I can hope, right?
I love the Hodge Podge kit-my scrapbookers who have used these types of embellishments for a while are HOOKED because of the value.
If you want other faux pieces try the Finials and Frames stamp set (page 163 in the SU catalog).
I overlooked it at first-but upon 2nd glance I think embossing the pieces of SU's metallic paper in silver/gold/copper would come out really well. You could also gently sponge over it in StazOn to get an aged look.

Same thing for me. I love the HH, but I am totally out of the photo tabs and I think the bookplates. I used all of them up the first month I had the kit and I am having a hard time finding anything comparable. I have been to Michael's, Joann's, and the LSS and they either don't have what I am looking for or it's not the right color.

The Hodgepodge is a really, really awesome kit... I hesitated for a long time before I bit the bullet and got mine and I absolutely adored it. I'm on my second one already! I'm going to get another color next time as well, although I love the Antique Brass for just about everything.
There are a few pieces I have leftover, but I always find a place for them when I go back and look at old cards or scrapbook pages. When I participate in swaps I make a real effort to use pieces and colors that I don't normally use, so I can expand my horizons (and also justify buying another kit!!!) : )

I love my Hodge Podge Hardware Kits. If you find you have extra pieces, think of some great way to use them!! If you added up the pieces and saw how little one piece costs, you will see why it is such a fantastic value!!

I totally agree with Jessian97! When you see how much is in the hodgepodge kit, it is an awesome deal!
Me three!! Worth the money. The tin is the cutest for storing it, too! Many people don't realize that buying in bulk from SU!, while at first a bit of a sticker shock, ends up costing less than going to the LSS and trying to get it in small quantities there!

I LOOOOOVE my hodgepodge. It also took me awhile to buy a kit, but OH MY GOSH, it was so worth it. I also love that new stamp set from SU, another set on my wishlist... ;)

I agree with every word! I bought some at JoAnn's and when I divided the cost by the # of pieces, it was MUCH more expensive than SU's. It just seems a lot since you pay for a lot of pieces but the coordinating part is SOOOOOOOOO sweet!
I also hesitated to spend the money on the hodgepodge kit. I bought a few clips and things from Making Memories and when I finally broke it down, SU was much cheaper. I do wish they would sell refills but I'm a hardware hoarder no matter what the company!

Just adding my vote to the agreeing with you all! It was actually voted last year as one of the TOP new BEST priced items in like a list of 25 or something like that! And they may not offer individual refills on each piece, but you can always buy another kit! Maybe try trading some as well! There might be others who want what you have.
If you COULD find a comparable number of each item at a going out of business sale where everything was 95% off, you could probably do better than HH kit. Personally, I wouldn't want to take the time to hunt it down. You get an incredible amount of pieces in each kit. I too wish there were refills for each type of piece but wouldn't hesitate to buy a whole new kit either.
I like the spiral clips a lot, but can only find silver out in the "real world." LOL
I recently got my second antique brass HH. I have been forced to expand my stamping a bit, to use up pieces I otherwise might not. That's always a good thing!!!

I think that the hodgepodge kit is reasonably priced as far as hardware goes, but I personally went of the TAC hip hardware stamp set. Only 7.95 for SO many different hardware type stamps and unlimited times I can use them! Plus it won't add to the weight of the card for postage

TAC does carry them in gold & silver packages, as well as: Tropical, Primary and Antique packages...They come to 10 cents a piece for the later. Gold/Silver are a bit more at $3.50 for 25...

I LOVE the antique copper. It's the only one I've purchased so far, but I love the warm color of it.
I need to force myself to use the label holders and the slides in the kit. I'm a wretched one for w'hore-ding. ;)

I too hesitated on buying the HH kit because of the price, but the kit is not only an exceptional value it has great versatility - so many uses and so easy to use. Just add a clip tied with a piece of ribbon or a buckle tied with hemp or through ribbon and your card just 'kicked it up a notch'!
I just purchased the pewter and am thinking about another antique brass because I have depleted my 1st one down to a few buckles. I don't always do a whole lot of embellishments, but the hardware really adds just the right little touch to finish a card.
Also, the kit colors are just so much nicer than the silver or gold pieces at the hobby or scrapbooking store.
