So...did anyone else have problems with theirs?!?!
It doesn't stamp a clear image at all and it doesn't matter how close I trim it, ink still gets on the edges...tips? Comments? Advice? Anyone have a sledgehammer?
I started a thread about these before I ordered mine because I had heard that the quality wasn't good. The advice I got was to cut EXTREMELY close all the way around, and when you stamp, I find I have to press a little harder than I do with my other stamps. I actually really like mine, and haven't had any problems with it. Which one did you order? I heard the one with the little tag is the worst for problems, because the detail is SO fine. I bought the leaf one, and it works well.
Hope you can figure out a way to make it work for you.
I totally agree...the quality is sub-standard for SU.. I couldn't believe they
would do such an awesome job on something "custom" that people pay more for. I have the other set for the angel policy. But I wanted one with my name. It needs work!! I think they should fix the problem and then let us with the crappy ones send them back for a free one.
I too dislike mine so much that recently I have misplaced it and cannot see paying another $20 (after s/h) for a new one.. They are just not worth that to me and to top it off my rubber and foam separated.
Okay, it's not the same as the regular molds they use for obvious reasons, it's a one shot mold. What I have found that works the best for me is
1. Trim it pretty close, I did leave space around it, so not too close the image/words.
2. I ink it upside down, tap tap tap with the ink pad.
By doing these 2 things I rarely get the ink on the edges. I use mine all the time.
Now, the stink it had when I first got it........ewwwwwwwwwwwww, thank goodness it finally went away!
I read the threads on here before I got it and I made sure to trim it really close. I also use even pressure and make sure to not rock it and *rarely* have a problem (usually the worst that happens is part of a letter doesn't stamp b/c I didn't press too hard but that doesn't happen often).
I actually have 2 of the personalized stamps - the Hand-Stamped by one (w/ the tag - that was my fave one) and the 4 line personalized one - w/ the personalized one the only trouble I have is the @ sometimes doesn't fully stamp but it's usually when I'm using Stazon and a glossy surface so I have no complaints.
I agree w/ Val about the smell - mine reaked for a long time - I never kept them in the case - just left them sitting on the desk and the smell went away quicker. HTH!
I got one and I can't stand it!! The rubber fell off of the foam, and my demo told me that SU wouldn't do anything about it since I've had if for 7 months. I also had, and still have the problem with it not stamping a perfect image like it should. I finally had to just glue the rubber on a new piece of foam, because I used super glue the first time, and it squished the foam down and made it worse. So it does kinda work now, but I'm pretty PO'ed that it was such a low quality stamp.
I have several of the personalized stamps and I like the ones I have.
These stamps are not molded but are made with a laser burner (hence the reeky smell when you get them.) So they are not as deeply cut as the molded rubber stamps.
To improve the stampability, you can cut as close as possible, which is what I do. Some people have had good luck removing them from the foam and mounting the rubber directly to the wood. If your rubber separates from your wood, it's probably because of cleaning solution getting under the rubber. All you need to do to reattach it is to put some rubber cement on the back of the rubber and stick it back down.
When you stamp, use a light pressure in the center of the block...these stamps should not be thumped to stamp.
Avoid any of the script fonts and stick with the contemporary ones. I've heard most of the complaints from people who've bought the script ones.
I have the tag angel policy stamp, the 4 line one with the bee, and a couple other ones that are retired and I like ALL of them.
I got over my fussiness and mine works 'ok' now...I used a craft knife and trimmed uber close to the image and then inked upside down by tapping the pad on the rubber...then was gentle with the putting it on the paper....and now the stamp and I are speaking again. Granted...my block is really stained now, but meh, what can you do? ;)
I think that is part of why mine fell of. I trimed it soooo close there was only about 1/4 inch of rubber left( I got one of the ones with no image so I could put my own)
Yeah, but will the TAC stamp satisify the SU rules? If so, I would have no problem with buying from TAC.
Oh, I forgot that part. Probably because we don't need a special stamp to sell our TAC creations.
My mom bought an SU personalized stamp and sent it back twice. She ended up just not using it because it stamped so bad. I'm surprised that SU doesn't hold the personalized stamps to the same quality standards as the others.

I love my personalized address stamp -- once I took the time to let it air out, that is! Dude, whatever type of rubber they use for those things smells like the swamp next to the toxic waste dump!
I've learned that you should not press as hard with these stamps as you do with the regular SU! art. Just a little tap is all it takes, both for inking and stamping, and I've had no trouble getting a nice, clear image with no stray edge marks.

Once I got it trimmed just right, now I love mine, and use it every time. I have the one with the leaf. I had to ink it a few times, and I trimmed the extra ink marks off with my hobby knife (CAREFULLY!!)

Ditto! That's exactly what I did! I do love having it now, but am still very careful when stamping with it. Oh boy.. the smell when I first got it!!!! I always leave it out of the plastic box it came in. The smell went away quickly after that! Thank goodness!

Wow.........I thought it was just me........but I have had the same problems. When I discovered I didn't cut close enough, I tried to remove it using the microwave method and just the top layer came off, leaving the foam. Its a total mess. After trying to glue it back together, it doesn't stamp evenly and still stamps an edge. Now I can't get the white craft ink to come off.........what a mess. I have never experienced this with any other stamp set.
I have the one with the little tag on it. I haven't had any of these problems and love it. Use it all the time. Don't know about that smell, it hasn't been in the box since it was assembled.
