Default pay pal question

Ok, so I ordered something from a company & used paypal. They didn't get the item in and returned the money via paypal. Now I have a balance on my paypal acct. Paypal asks if I want to refund the money and they will reverse the fee...??? what??? refund to me and my checking acct or refund to the company? I'm so confused. If I buy something else will it come off that balance? Does anyone have any idea how this works? I'd appreciate any help!

It sounds to me like instead of "refunding" your payment, they just sent your money back as a new payment to you. Anytime someone sends you money, you have the option to refund the payment and any fees that were paid get credited back.
So the money is yours to spend. Have fun shopping!

If you buy something else it will come off of that balance. It has happened to me before.
I have absolutely no idea how you get the money back into your bank account though or what the other stuff they are talking about.
When I get a refund I just leave it there and it saves me digging as far into my bank account later on. Plus the bank pays next to no interest anyways and the paypal balance is so small that I don't worry about it.
HTH a little bit.

You will be charged a fee to have the funds transfered back to your chequing account.

No, you're only charged if you want them to issue a paper check. Electronic transfer is free. Just click withdraw.

I hope this is a separate checking account for on line purchases??? You should never have a pay pal attached to your checking account that you pay your bills with. If you are doing minor purchases it is safer to use a credit card. There was a breach last year with pay pal and checking accounts, a lot of people lost money, there was a large forum here about it.

that would be me, among many others. I think paypal is safe most of the time. Paypal refunded me almost all my money that was scammed (someone hacked into my account, meaning he or she figured out my password).

The person made overseas purchases and, although paypal refunded my money, I lost money on the exchange rate thing. I could have fought it, but the loss was a couple of bucks and by the end of the incident I was really tired of all the phone calls, etc.

I found paypal to be pretty responsive. However, if you link to a checking account, it is more risky.

The interesting thing is that many stampers' accounts were hacked the same weekend...

The $5 sceurity key for paypal is really worth it to prevent hackers from getting into your account.

I don't think that paypal is any more or less secure than any other site. We had someone get a hold of my husband's debit card number and run up a bunch of stuff in NYC. Luckily the fraud alert peeps caught it and contacted us. Everytime you use your debit card anywhere you're vulnerable.:(

I have a seperate account just for Paypal...sometimes my balance gets very high.....I do also have the security thingy on my key ring...it seems like a pain to add the extra step but you get used to it pretty quick and it is so worth the added layer of protection it gives.
blessings.

I've always used my checking account to pay with. I don't have much money in that Checking account anyway. So I doubt anyone would be happy if they hacked into it.

They'd me super mad!!

Can't steal what I do have. I only keep about $120.00 in that account anyway.

Beware, if you go out of town and want to use paypal's security key, you must take it with you. I keep mine in a safe place in the house. It's a sturdy little thing (wnet through the washing machine by mistake and still works) LOL Wouldn't recommend it though. I didn't realize this and I have it hooked up to my ebay account too. So for the weekend I was gone I could not shop. By the time I got home I was crawling up the walls.Hee Hee

It may be because I have a merchant account then, because I've been charged a fee for having funds transfered to my bank account.

Yes you can still get inot your account without the key. Just click that you do not have it with you and will have to answer 2 security questions correctly to get in your account.

I LOVE my key!

This thread has some great tips and advice. I had no idea about the security key thing. Will be looking into that for sure. I didn't even hear about all that went on with the paypal accounts and money being stolen! WOW. I must have been under a rock not to hear that.

Default Pay Pal question

Thanks for the information and advice about Pay Pal. I just ordered my key. I hope it helps. Ebay seems to be tightening their security as well.
