I want to sell my retired stamp sets on this site and I've read thru the BST, but I don't see where it explains how to collect payment. I'm assuming that Pay Pal is the way to go, but I don't know how it works.
Otherwise to sell stamps, this is what I think: I decide on a price, take a photo and post it on this site. Am I right?
What do you suggest for sending?
Sorry to be so clueless, but I've never done this.
This is what I do when selling here on SCS in the Buy/sell and trade fourm.
I list everything I am looking to sell. And then tell everyone how much I want for my items And tell them shipping is extra.
If someone is interested in buying something from me. I then have them send me a PM Private Message, And I then share with them my Payment information.
Which will include my Paypal address and my mailing address. Giving them a choice of payments.
Then they pay me either via Paypal with my Paypal email or send me money via snail mail.
You also can choose to send them a Invoice to their Paypal email.
I don't understand how to receive pay pal payments either
I understand the two posts, but still do not know how to go about using Pay Pal to receive payments when selling stamp sets. Do you just use your regular Pay Pal account? I went to pay pal, and read, but there is so much to understand. I have only bought things online using my Pay Pal, but never sold using it. Can anyone give me more information, please? Thanks so much!
Sue

Sue, the person buying something from you goes to PayPal and sends the money to your PayPal email name. You can transfer that money to your bank account.
Or you can select "Send & Request" at the top of the page, and then choose either 1) Request From Anyone (for friends and family) or Create Invoice. I think it will be fairly clear from there, but if not just ask.
But in other words, either the buyer or seller can initiate the transaction. You could tell someone via PM that something costs $10.00 plus $7.00 shipping and they could then send you the money. Or you could request the $17.00 from them first.
Clear as mud, right? Sorry, I have to give meds to one of our cats and he's tapping me on the arm (for a treat, not meds!), so am a little distracted. : )
If you use PayPal much for buying, you don't even need to transfer the incoming funds to a bank account, you can simply leave them as credit in your PayPal account, and it will use those before your credit card.
I have been trying to find it and failing...there used to be something in the BST threads about having less redress (should a transaction go wrong) if you use the "family and friends" option (which has lower or no fees) rather than the buying goods or services option. When you use the goods and services option, you have a choice as to whether the buyer or seller pays the fees. If I'm selling, I expect to pay them and factor them into the price of an item.
Whether funds are used first from PayPal or credit card depends on how we set up our PayPal accounts. When I pay for something and select PayPal, there's a choice of whether to use funds in my PayPal account, my bank account, etc. IOW for me it's not automatic.
Right - there is no buyer protection when sending money via Friends & Family.

Ah well, I have never wanted there to be any connection between my bank account and PayPal, so I have never linked them. Therefore for me, the default is to take payment from credit in the account first, and then from the CC. I don't use it a lot for selling, so there's never a lot of incoming funds to build up in it.
I hear you. I'd rather it that way too, but because of selling season baseball tickets for games we don't go to through the team site which uses StubHub (MLB partner), which pays us with PayPal... well it's kind of convoluted.
I am surprised they are letting you function w/o a bank account link Sabrina. I was told I had to do it in order to have a "verified" account and keep buying, so I just opened the smallest one I could with no fees at the bank, it stands alone-is not linked to my regular accounts and gave them that. (the other choice was their CC or their line of credit-um NO. I cant see how those would have happened anyway without my bank info)
In fact- I got into a huge fight with them over this....years ago when I started, they just let you buy stuff on a CC. They did say there was a limit, but they didnt clarify if the limit was just per month (like a CC) or IN TOTAL....I thought #1 and it was #2 and I hit that total right in the middle of of transaction with someone new....I was SO ANGRY. I was like I have spent thousands-let this freaking one go thru and then tell me I am frozen! It is embarrassing to me when I am doing business with someone. But in the end-it is their game, their rules. But that total amount was not stable either-it varied hugely between people. I have no idea what the parameters were. My cousin had a huge amount-I dont know if she ever used it all.
Other than that they have been really terrific. I hear now they dont even give you that temporary state-you have to verifiy immediately.
Sorry...didnt mean to hijack the thread.
I think your best bet is to read on the PP side of things and call them and ask any questions you have. I would if it was me b/c I dont want to screw up my PP account just to sell some stamps. But that's me. I dont think it is complicated. Plenty of people here are doing it.
I just purchased a set off a FB group (Canadian site) and I paid her with an EMT. She sent me a PM with her email address, I signed into my (online) bank, chose the acct., chose email transfer and followed the instructions. Super easy and my bank required me to submit a security question and the answer. I asked for the stamp company name. Easy peasy, and she PM'd me when she received payment.
It's linked to our credit card, but not our regular checking account. Which is what I think it would need to be if I wanted to be able to transfer funds from it.
I think EMTs are great, here they are free to carry out within the EU and I've used them when buying from a stamp company in the Netherlands.
