Default Pastels on Black and Popin' Pastels

I saw this great tutorial and it made me think of Poppin' Pastels, a technique I saw several years ago at an SU party. Are they the same thing?

Splitcoaststampers - Tutorials

I love this look, and am so glad that Beate put together this nice tutorial

They are not quite the same.

In poppin' pastels you stamp with a Watermark ink and then use a dauber to add pastels over the image. You can find the tutorial here.

We have a couple other chalk techniques in our resource section. Just go there and type in pastels in the search engine.

Hugs and smiles

Several people have said they think bold colors are going to be the new trend. What a great way to do that!

The other possibility for confusion is with Black Magic, because that's on black card too . But that's solid images stamped in white and then coloured with pencils, while the Pastels on Black is line art. It does look beautiful, doesn't it! I've been trying to remember if I ever added pastel pencils to my collection when I worked in fine-art supplies distribution!

This reminds me of bleaching stamped images on black and then painting or whatever on it. Gosh, I haven't done that in a long time.

I see you're in Dublin, I love that city! We had the BEST vacation year before last. I was fascinated with the Dublin doors. I photographed lots of them and have been painting them since returning home.

oh, fun! I just got some new pearl chalks and I was going to play with them using these two techniques for a class I'll be teaching next week! I guess what's old is new again--poppin' pastels is one of the very first techniques I ever learned over 10 years ago and I haven't used it in ages!

we would love to see what you come up with for cards; I want to try this technique for a retreat, but, don't know if I would have any pearilized chalks left.
So, I did purchase some gelatos on order to receive soon. There is a technique for using them on background stamps. I do like the thought of pastel pencils to try this way, also.

Are you familiar with Scratchboard? There's a local artist who use white acrylics and chalk on black to make artwork that resembles scratchboard. Your various black with white ink and/or pastels techniques are probably a similar version with the option of color.

Yes, scratchboard has been around for years. I've made my own before as well.
