Default Paper-crafting Budget

1)Do you have one?

2)Daily? (heh) Weekly? Monthly? Yearly?

3)What is it?

4)Do you stick to it?

5)Are you in debt or have you ever been in debt because of paper crafting purchases?

1) I don't have a budget, but I will have to start sticking to one soon

2) I am ashamed to say what I have spent on paper-crafting since I discovered card-making

3) When I finally work out our new budget, I think it will be about $75 per month

4) Not applicable...yet

5) I am not and have never been in debt due to spending money on paper-crafting

Your turn

1)Do you have one? Yes, I have had one for the past 3 1/2 years since adoption attorney and related costs were high and after My DS was born we decided to keep the monthly budget for our hobbies.

2)Daily? (heh) Weekly? Monthly? Yearly? Monthly

3)What is it? 100.00/month

4)Do you stick to it? Yes, Absolutly.

5)Are you in debt or have you ever been in debt because of paper crafting purchases? No, never in debt due to my papercrafting hobby- but we were in debt due to DH's previous marriage and lossing OT a few years back and my medical problems/surgeries. We are no longer in debt and rebuilding our Savings account.

1)Do you have one? Sort of.

2)Daily? (heh) Weekly? Monthly? Yearly? Bi-weekly.

3)What is it? $250

4)Do you stick to it? Sometimes.

5)Are you in debt or have you ever been in debt because of paper crafting purchases?
Nope.

I get $500/two weeks for me. That covers clothes, lunches, Starbucks, hobbies, etc. It also covers spending money for vacations and kids' activities.

I try to spend 1/2 on crafts and the other 1/2 on other things. But sometimes (during SU catalog retirement/new catty times) most of it goes towards my crafting. Then I brown-bag it for lunch and make my own coffees at home. I try to pre-pay the kids' activities beforehand so that I can do this.

I know is sounds overly extravagant, but I enjoy it and really don't have other hobbies. Bills are paid, retirement funds and college funds funded, and money saved before I do this, so I'm happy with it.

Very interesting topic...

1)Do you have one? NO. But I try.

2)Daily? (heh) Weekly? Monthly? Yearly? NOT APPLICABLE. LOL.

3)What is it? WELL, I'VE BEEN KEEPING OUR POP CANS AND BOTTLES, SO THAT WHEN I TURN THEM IN, THE MONEY BECOMES MY CRAFT FUND. BUT DH DONATED ALL OF OUR CANS AND BOTTLES TO THE SCHOOL... SO I GUESS YOU CAN SAY I TRIED! LOL.

4)Do you stick to it? EVERYTIME I TRY, SOMETHING ELSE HAPPENS.

5)Are you in debt or have you ever been in debt because of paper crafting purchases? NO.

1)Do you have one? Not quite. I get an "allowance"

2)Daily? (heh) Weekly? Monthly? Yearly? 1st & 15th

3)What is it? $100 on payday

4)Do you stick to it? This is new for us, my allowance, and I'm on craft spending probation. Right now, I'm not allowed to spend on crafts. I have so much DH wants to see me making before I start spending again.

5)Are you in debt or have you ever been in debt because of paper crafting purchases? Debt over crafting, no. Debt is already there and we are working on it. This is actually part of why DH and I agreed I was gonna be going on probation for craft spending.

1)Do you have one? I try.

2)Daily? (heh) Weekly? Monthly? Yearly? Bi-weekly

3)What is it? I try to stay below $300 monthly but that includes all my crafting not just paper. I also quilt, cross stitch, and hook rugs.
4)Do you stick to it? Depends...Who's askin'? My hubby? The answer is, "Yes, absolutely, never deviate from it." Just you ladies, "Not a snowball's chance in Arizona!" Doesn't mean I don't try!
5)Are you in debt or have you ever been in debt because of paper crafting purchases? Thankfully, no. Like most others, the debt is from other stuff.

Default Budget?

[quote=Jennifer Styles;16791006]1)Do you have one? In my head.

2)Daily? (heh) Weekly? Monthly? Yearly? Since I am a Stampin' Up demo, my self-imposed budget is my quarterly minimum - $100/month

3)What is it?

4)Do you stick to it? I try really, really hard.

5)Are you in debt or have you ever been in debt because of paper crafting purchases? I've not been in debt *because* of my addiction, but it sure didn't help. I'm currently down to only my car note (house is paid), and then I'll be completely debt-free. I could be paying the car off early, but my credit was so rotten that paying it on time now has been rebuilding my score, so I'll keep paying it monthly until my credit score gets respectable or I pay it off, whichever comes first.

1)Do you have one? Not in a formal sense. I earn the same every month and my expenses tend to not vary, so I generally know I can afford between $50-$100/month. I roll that over some months to give me extra for special times like the SU! retirement list and CHA.

2)Daily? (heh) Weekly? Monthly? Yearly?Weekly

3)What is it? approx $25/week.

4)Do you stick to it? Up. I will come under often.

5)Are you in debt or have you ever been in debt because of paper crafting purchases? Nope. I'm currently debt free, and the few time I didn't pay my cc off monthly it was due to other stuff

1. Yeah
2: Monthly
3: $100
4: sorta... if I "need" more I try to sell used stamps or something to get more.
5:not real debt, every once in a while I"m in "allowance debt" like I wanted to go to a retreat that was $300. I paid it all at once of course, but didn't have that much in my craft budget and had to "pay myself back" by not spending for a few months. Never real debt though.

1)Do you have one? I am very new to this so not yet... BUT, over the past month, my little bin has just exploded.

2)Daily? (heh) Weekly? Monthly? Yearly? It will be monthly.

3)What is it? Not sure yet. Right now, I'm spending a ton because I have nothing to make cards with. But once I get a base, maybe.... 50 a month ish

4)Do you stick to it? I really hope to so the DH doesn't get upset. lol

5)Are you in debt or have you ever been in debt because of paper crafting purchases? Nope, not yet, but I can see it getting that way. I have to not look at things or I will get into debt because of it. We are in debt for other things, and we have 3 kids and 2 dogs. So, debt and I are close. lol

Do any of you watch that show " 'Til Debt Do us Part?" Well, my hubby and I have read her book and we're now following her plan to be debt-free in three years. My debt was due to ALL spending (I can't pin it on just crafting, it was just plain poor money-management) and we have a plan now. so...

1) Yes, I now have a budget.
2) We put cash in the jars weekly, but I usually save it till the end of the month.
3) my budget is $75 and more if I give up starbucks..
4) I HAVE to stick with it since I now live on cash!!
5) (read above...)

I am on this amazing DT that gives me tonnes of free product which really helps, but I'm finding that with a STRICT budget I really think about what I purchase BEFORE I purchase it! Good luck!

1)Do you have one? YES!

2)Daily? (heh) Weekly? Monthly? Yearly? MONTHLY

3)What is it? $50, but I think I might have to bump it up

4)Do you stick to it? I TRY!

5)Are you in debt or have you ever been in debt because of paper crafting purchases? NO!

This is a great thread I'm interested in what everyone else says ;)

1)Do you have one? Sort Of

2)Daily? (heh) Weekly? Monthly? Yearly? Monthly/Sort Of

3)What is it? I try to keep it under $50 or so a month (I use $50 just as general monetary idea/reference point), although I have spent more, but it's rarely ever. It includes adhesive, cardstock, papers and stamps and any other purchases. I always ask my husband if I can spend, even when it's over $25

4)Do you stick to it? I really try very hard to keep my purchases few, and keep them cheap, but I am always seeing new things that I'd love to try or want. Especially stamps and paper, I just love them

5)Are you in debt or have you ever been in debt because of paper crafting purchases?
I think I'm the first to post a YES!! I added an unessessary extra $5,000 on our CC, because I love scrapping so much I let it get out of hand. I used to spend $60 a week at JoAnn's & Micheal's. My husband didn't say anything much because he knew I loved scrapping. I am now trying to be a better mom and wife, that my husband can trust, and that my kids can learn from my awful money managing mistakes

1)Do you have one? Yes

2)Daily? (heh) Weekly? Monthly? Yearly? Montly

3)What is it? $50 a month

4)Do you stick to it? I usually do. If I don't spend my $50 one month I roll it over to the next month if I'm saving up for something big.

5)Are you in debt or have you ever been in debt because of paper crafting purchases? In the beginning I spent wayyy too much money on craft supplies. But I think we all do. I never went into debt over it though.

1)Do you have one? Kind of...I get an allowance.

2)Daily? NO! I get paid weekly, but we each take our allowances when he gets paid, twice a month.

3)What is it? I I used to spend $50 a month on crafting, but not anymore. I get twice the allowance now, but I don't spend it all on crafting. I have actually been using it for things I need that I seldom buy for myself.

4)Do you stick to it? Yes!

5)Are you in debt or have you ever been in debt because of paper crafting purchases?

Please share Yes, I have been in debt because of paper crafting purchases. In fact, I'm certain that some of what's left on my credit card came from my early years as a Stampin' Up demo. My husband has dedicated his entire monthly allowance this year to paying off his credit card, and I'm tempted to do the same for the family credit card. It should not be as high as it is (don't think huge numbers here-dh is in banking, and huge debt is not allowed!) But I'm afraid I would have resentment using my own money to pay off the family credit card more than a few hundred dollars (what I put on there in my demo days) so I may stop myself at that.

Completed Financial Peace University in Jan 2009 so very close now to being debt free including our new Jeep. We should also pay our new house off in FOUR years (orginal price was over $300,00) so no dont want to go in to debt for this hobby but love buying lots of new stuff..normally several hundred bucks a month but use a lot of it for soldier cards and church stuff. Life is so good.
blessings.

No budget whatsoever. I scrimp and save and behave in a miserly fashion in other areas of my life (no kids, pets, or plants. Two cheap, old, paid-in-full cars: '96 and '99. One old house to be paid off in 2 years) just so I can spend whatever I want to on this hobby. I don't though. A lifetime's worth of miserly habits does make it so I naturally restrict my spending on stamping as well.

1)Do you have one? Not actually but a figure that I know I won't go over.

2)Daily? (heh) Weekly? Monthly? Yearly? Monthly

3)What is it? $50

4)Do you stick to it? Most of the time, when I go over it is because I earned extra money doing county fair judging or shooting photos for someone.

5)Are you in debt or have you ever been in debt because of paper crafting purchases? Absolutely not.....and don't intend to go there ever...

1)Do you have one? Not in the beginning (about 3 years ago becasue I **needed** so much stuff. ;) Then I realized that I didn't have to use a Michael's coupon just because I had one and there was less and less that I saw that I wanted. The shipping charges on most web sites keep me in check.

2)Daily? (heh) Weekly? Monthly? Yearly? Since last summer I have only been keeping to my SU demo minimum of $300 per quarter. I have been really trying to get customers so I can go a few months without having to spend and forcing myself to use what I have.

3)What is it? $100 a month

4)Do you stick to it? I have been. My husband is in construction so I am watching my spending. Plus I just walk into my craft room and see how much I have and never use and it is too sick.

5)Are you in debt or have you ever been in debt because of paper crafting purchases? No.

I watch this show all the time and I love it! Congrats to you for following a plan. You can do it! And in three years you will be so glad that you did. My hubby loves Dave R. so needless to say we do not have any debt (other than our mortgage) and we pay for everything in cash (yes, everything- even our cars. Although we only buy, used cars). Hubby says if we can't pay for it, then we can't afford it.

1)Do you have one? No, not really, but I am very careful with my purchases and I never pay full price for anything. If I find myself spending a lot in one week, then I will hold off on any more purchases for awhile.

2)Daily? (heh) Weekly? Monthly? Yearly? No budget, however I usually place a large SU order once a year.

3)What is it?

4)Do you stick to it? I do limit myself to my spending. I always ask myself- Do I want it? Do I need it? Do I have to have it? And if I answer no to any of these then I usually won't purchase it.

5)Are you in debt or have you ever been in debt because of paper crafting purchases? Nope, no debt here. I keep telling myself that I do not need to try and keep up with the latest and greatest trends.

1)Do you have one? yes

2)Daily? (heh) Weekly? Monthly? Yearly? bi-monthly

3)What is it? $75 every two weeks

4)Do you stick to it? yes

5)Are you in debt or have you ever been in debt because of paper crafting purchases? No debt except medical bills from 6 back surgeries. I am a cash only household. RIght now I am lucky enough to live rent free - when I get my own place after my disablilty comes thru my budget will be reduced - drasticaslly :( But I will have my own place to live.

1)Do you have one? Yes and no. I know what I can afford to spend and what I can't. If I want something big, I save up for it.

2)Daily? (heh) Weekly? Monthly? Yearly? I'd say Monthly

3)What is it? Around $50

4)Do you stick to it? Most times

5)Are you in debt or have you ever been in debt because of paper crafting purchases? Nope. But I wonder if DH would go for adding an addition to our new house for my craft room, LOL!

I really don't have a budget for my crafting. I try to limit my spending. I have been doing this for so long that I have lots of supplies. And I have learned what I will use and what I won't. I've also learned that I don't need to run out and buy the latest and greatest thing that everyone must have. I would say I spend maybe $400 a year, if that. Now a few years ago it was probably much higher. DH probably says I still spend too much, but he also knows in comparison to a lot of people, I am very thrifty and live pretty simply, so he keeps his mouth shut. We have no debt other than the house. We have savings for college and retirement, I know we have been very lucky.

Default Trade Offs

1)Do you have one? I work in finance... of course I have this in my budget. ;)

2)Daily? (heh) Weekly? Monthly? Yearly? Monthly.

3)What is it? I used to buy one or two Starbucks a week. That came to about $10.00. In order to fit paper crafting in our budget I gave up Starbucks (except maybe one per month). I take that $10.00 and put it toward something fun using my weekly Michael's coupon. So basically I can buy one $18 item each week (minus 40% off) or I can wait and buy one $36 item every two weeks (minus 40% off). Giving up the expensive coffee makes my crafting cost next to nothing exta. After about two years of doing this I've got an amazing array of DP pads, punches, etc. I've actually made a recent commitment to stop buying paper and use up some of the scraps before I get more.

4)Do you stick to it? Duh, FINANCE PERSON... of course I stick to it. LOL

5)Are you in debt or have you ever been in debt because of paper crafting purchases? No. Make a plan. Stick to it. My dad always used to say "if you don't have the money in your pocket, you can't buy it. Period.
