I say, let's all write her (the store that sounds like a vowel) a letter saying that she should award StampGrover her $25 prize, or we'll never shop there again.

I haven't read all of the posts, but I agree with the posts I have read so far: You most DEFINATELY deserve the prize, unless it's in the "fine print" of the contest that there were a minimum number of entries required. I'd call and ask to speak to the manager or store owner. Be nice about it, but stand your ground.

The owner of the store owes you the gift certificate. You could tell her that you've spoken to a lawyer and see what she does. But if she was any kind of honest business woman, she would give you the prize. And if there was 2 card and she couldn't have a winner and a loser, what difference does it make. If there were 100 cards there would be a winner and 99 losers.....so what?? That's why it's a contest.
My thoughts exactly! Only 1 person can win, and it seems by her description that the other card was missing a required component. I don't understand her theory that because they are a small business, they can't give the $25 prize for only 2 cards being entered. They would have had to pay the $25 no matter how many entries.
Actually, it is better business and a great advertisement for them to give you the gift, post your card and picture and say you were the winner of a $25 gift certificate at their contest. Other people would see that, and the next contest that she runs, she is sure to get quite a few more entries. She would have kept you as a big customer, plus probably a few more. If I were you, I'd write to her and tell her that she lost you as a customer and that you won't recommend her store to all your stamping pals!
I agree with everyone that you got duped. You should write a letter to your local newspaper alerting all her customers that she's a bad businesswoman and not to deal with her any more. That would probably put her out of business all together...not exactly what she was going for, I'm sure!
I have a hard time believing that she didn't budget for the $25 GC when she decided to hold the contest. It should be like an advertising expense for the business. I don't think any advertising company would let a customer not pay because they didn't get any business from an ad. It's the same thing. Stores hold contests like this to get customers in the door and buy stuff. Just because it didn't work doesn't mean she shouldn't have to pay like she promised.
I'm really sorry this happened to you, I would be peeved too.
Go in the store with a reciept for $25 showing from a different craft store and tell the manager that you would have spent that PLUS used the gift cert. at their store if they had honored the contest. I also throw in I have a big mouth and am not afraid to use it...
Well, I just went to their website and they have announced a winner to their "Summer Fun" Card Contest. Was that the contest you entered??? They also have announced a Fall Card contest with a $25.00 first prize but guess what...there is no mention of a minimum number of entries!!

I can't understand this store owner!!!
She certainly is making a bad "impression" on me!
SHe's using the previous contest winners entries on the web site, so she gets a payback for her $25.00. Goodness!
Ewwww...I wish Judge Judy was on SCS right now cuz she'd definitely know how to advise you ;)
I agree with all the comments so far and just for good measure, I'd call up a local paper in town to see if they'd be interested in your story....I know I would!
It certainly would not be over for me at this point...and it isn't so much about the "prize" as it is the business ethic's of this store owner...stupid is the first thing that comes to mind!
So...is okay to ask for anyone to pm me the store website?

Hmmmm, I can't wait to find out if that's the contest she entered! Can you imagine if it is, and they announced that they had a winner, but refused to give the prize? Wowee........it's bad enough as it is, but that would really take the prize, (pun intended), for bad business.
I figured out the stores name by doing a google search on casselbury stamp store- but can't find a website.
This is so awful that she would have a contest, then not award the prize. If there was no fine print, you won the contest. I would contact the BBB. And take your business elsewhere.
 I'm a SU! Demo and I have to say that if I was the "business owner" I would absolutely award the prize. You can't fault your customers for not getting enough entries OR for failing to put in verbiage to protect yourself in such an event. I am just shocked that a business person would shoot themselves in the foot over $25!!!! I hope you never plan to shop there again ... I like the post earlier that said you should go in there with a $25+ receipt from another store and show it to her ... kinda of a "Pretty Woman Moment"! ha ha ...
Good luck with all of this and I'm really sorry it happened to you.
Well I am in awe of the support I have on this....I thought maybe I was being silly about it....I do want to say and I told her I loved that store I loved going there and shopping there....The lady has always been pleasant and she did say she was sorry when I emailed her about the contest....I just wish she would have contacted me instead of me having to email her to ask her about....I was wondering why on the site it never mentioned the contest I entered they were already starting a new one and had the winners name from a previous one....Its just the principle of it....Thanks so much for all your support.....Theres an old saying "Youve got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything"....
:( I wanna email them too, just to let them know that just the time and effort put into your entry, plus the eager anticipation of the results was enough to justify the certificate.............BUT, I'm not a very good detective, because I can't find it, lol.
Stampgroover, Did she give your card back? If not, I would ask for it! It may end up in a class she has. Hang in there. You are right. I may email her too.

Hey thanks...Yes she told me I can pick up my card....I dread it...I feel like just letting them throw it away they made me feel like they have disreguarded it as it is....Thanks again
You ABSOLUTELY deserve that prize. It is not YOUR problem that she did not think her contest through before having it.
I am an SU demo and I frequently do specials on my own. I am always very careful to cover any loopholes people might find, but if I ever mess up or don't catch something then I guess I won't make the same mistake again. I would not ever shop there again unless you got that gift certificate. It is SO beyond the money now. Customer service has gone right out the window on this one.
She should make a huge poster with you card and let everyone know they lost out simply by NOT entering. That will be sure to get her more entries next time. You should print out this thread and bring/email it to her.
Wow, I even found the store and I'm not from Florida. I think the small rubber stamp stores have us at their mercy. There just doesn't seem to be a whole lot of them. The closest stamp store to me here in central IL (that I know of anyway) is about an hour's drive from me. I go there but the owner is really kind of rude and arrogant. I can see her doing something like what happened here.
Just checking in on day two. I also wrote the store. I tried my best to not be rude but to just point out to them that they really missed the boat on this one. I hope to hear that they send StampGroover a well deserved appology, and her award.... I think the thing that bugged me the most about the whole thing is the fact that StampGroover bought stamps and paper at the store specific to enter into the contest!! That is why it so feels like fraud...
Wow I never knew just how nice everyone was here....I mean you guys are real sweeties...Bless your hearts for making me feel better about the whole thing.....
That is outrageous! I live on the East Coast of FL and have been wanting to visit that Casselberry store. I think I'll be saving my gas for something more deserving. What nerve!!

Hey I was in Daytona Beach Shores not too long ago and went to a Stamp Store in New Smyrna Beach....It was a nice store too...maybe you can check them out....
This is just wrong, and I'm pretty peeved about her response to you as well. It REALLY upsets me that you even bought things specifically to enter this contest - I would go the BBB website and enter your complaint. The BBB has a wonderful way of helping companies see things the right way.

I agree!!!! I would definitely enter a complaint with the BBB! The treatment you received is unethical and absolutely unprofessional for a business owner. It's a shame too especially since you liked shopping at this store. I'm really sorry you had to experience this kind of treatment.
Thanks to the lovely SCS'r (you know who you are) who pm'd me the website, I can now send my vote on the lack of business ethics for this establishment.
Also, I just wanted you to know that I paid a visit to your "gallery" and you definitely know how to stamp
Hey thanks...Yes she told me I can pick up my card....I dread it...I feel like just letting them throw it away they made me feel like they have disreguarded it as it is....Thanks again
No way you should have to drive all the way over there to pick up your card! They should mail it to you at their expense.
Oooh, she'll regret incurring the wrath of the mighty SCSers!!!!!! Please please please keep us informed of any replies!!! What she did was very short-sighted. Can't wait to see the outcome!
Perhaps we should ALL enter the next competition and write on it "if my card is chosen as the winner, please send my prize to StampGroover"!!!!
I just visited your gallery, also, and your cards are the BOMB! Just think...if she had posted you as winner, than I'm sure people would have wanted to buy "that stamp and paper" and she would have generated more sales. Her lose.
