Oh, brother! Several months back when the PTI cloud dies came out, I ordered them. I was using them the first night they came in the mail, just cutting some clouds for stash. Now, like most of us, I was also multitasking... cooking dinner, laundry, etc. I was working at the front room coffee table since it was not serious crafting and had quite a bit of paper and scraps around. All of the sudden, I noticed the small cloud die was missing. I was devastated as I had looked EVERYWHERE and had gone through the garbage several times... this was the first day I had it, and it was missing.
Now go forward a few months. The other day I was working with my CB (it's older, the green one), and picked it up and heard a clinking sound. I start messing around, trying to figure it out, etc. I thought it was coming from the bottom, but now I realize it's coming from the top. I put two and two together... my small PTI could die is in the TOP part of my CB!!! Stuck in there, you can hear it sliding back and forth. It's loose floating around, not affecting the CB at all. I tried shaking it, but I can't seem to make any headway. I truly think this could only happen to me. I don't want to destroy my CB for the sake of getting the die out, but if the CB does go bad, I could take it apart and get it out.
Don't ask me what happened. I have no idea!!!! And of course no one to blame but myself!! Duh.....
Okay - I'm not gonna lie - your storytelling is great and I giggled - but I'm laughing WITH you, not at you. If you could see my craft room right know, you'd know
Anyway, are you sure it's not in that compartment underneath the handle where you store the little wrench thing?
My thought is how the bugger did it get stuck if it was between the two plates when rolling through???
If it is stuck in there and you day it is a very old cuttle bug - may be worth breaking it open to get the die out and investing in a either a new cuttle bug or a big shot.............
Cindy......Are you actually talking about the Cuttlebug die cutting machine? If so there is no top part to it that has any kind of opening. The only opening in the machine (green one) is where the roller is and you place the cutting pads. It would be impossible for anything to get stuck inside of the machine....it's all sealed.

I have a piece of card stock caught in the rollers of mine but it doesn't effect it!
I had this happen with a Spellbinders die..I just ended up GONE. I have NO CLUE how it happened. Then, when I was cutting with a Sizzix die, it JAMMED in the CB, and my DH had to BREAK the CB to get it out.
My SECOND CB got jammed with a Sizzix die. Now, come on! The die just jammed in there with the plates. It was done properly, etc. DH had to BREAK that CB to get out the die. I'm an educated person. I can read and FOLLOW instructions. I brought this issue up at CHA at the Provo Craft booth and the people working the booth looked at me like I was crazy. SERIOUSLY! So, out came the wallet again, and I bought ANOTHER one.
My Third CB got a CB Embossing folder/plates/etc jammed and DH had to break that one. I took it to Michaels and the manager suggest I send it back to Provo Craft, as I didn't have my receipt. Now folks, you KNOW I bought two OTHER CB's from that same Michaels....AND THAT MANAGER knows it too!
You know what? That was in the course of one year! ONE YEAR!!! I have been using a Big Shot ever since. Dropped the thing on the handle and BENT it! It still works! I use ALL the dies from ALL sorts of companies, NOTHING gets jammed....I LOVE my Big Shot! I also have a Grand Calibur. Guess what? I STILL USE THE BIG SHOT and NOTHING else! LOL
that's hilarious!! I can say though that my lovely toddler has stuck buttons (a ton of them!) down in mine so I know exactly what you are talking about! If you fold the sides up about halfway it's easy to get at things in the bottom and my first thought was how about trying a magnet? If you could get something with a magnetic tip that might work enough to get it out a bit to grab - or try tweezers. Hope you manage to get it out!

Oh, trust me, it's in there! It is the green one and it's up in that top part. Not sure how it got there, but it is a small die.

The magnet is a good idea. I might see if I can find something like that. I'm going to get the CB out during American Idol and see if I can have more luck this time.
Honestly, I would save a michaels coupon, break the cuttlebug and go buy another one. I am on my second cuttlebug. I don't think I could just leave that die in there and ignore it. I would want it out! good luck!
For those who have lost dies and paper, is your die/paper always sandwiched between cutting plates? Or do they ever sit on top of your plates when you send them through? That's the only scenario I can picture allowing dies/paper to be sucked up into the rollers. I almost had a tan mat rolled up in the big shot, but I unrolled it in time. :-)
Similar and in addition to what's posted in #15, could it be that you are trying to put too much thickness through your Cuttlebug. That machine is not as strong as the other ones manufactured. It can't accomodate everything you may want to push through it.
Yeah. I might just get a Big Shot soon, I've wanted one for a while. Had this CB for like 4 years or so, and NEVER had an issue with it. I'm still not having an issue with it, but apparently it's become HUNGRY!!
I truly can't say for sure how it happened. I was up and down doing a lot of other things at the time, so it's possible it got tipped sideways or even upside down as I got up and slipped in... it's a very small die. All I knew is that had been cutting with the small and big cloud die, together and separate, and when I got back to the CB the small one was gone.
If I do get a new one, I'll videotape me taking this one apart. It'll be funny!
It was a real hoot reading this thread! I literally had just put my order in for a Big Shot. I have a Cuttlebug that I've used for over 4 years, but I'm finding some of things I do seem to be a bit heavy-duty for it. I think I got a good deal. Now I have to decide whether to keep the Cuttlebug, sell it, or gift it to my mother. Decisions, decisions!!
This is tooo funny Cindy!! Thanks for giving me a good laugh You are a wonderful story teller!! Jokes apart, I do feel bad that your die is stuck there.
I just found this thread tonight when I was looking for a solution to my lost die. A small flower center (less than .5x.5) slid down the center of my CB machine. I saw it slide when I was pulling out the platform. I can hear it clanking around but can't figure out how to get it out.
Did you figure out how to open your CB? If so, any suggestions for retrieving my lost die?
As far as I know they cannot be opened fully. My first one, the original green, got very hard to turn and my husband tried working on it and did get it a bit better but it didn't last long. He's super handy and fixes almost anything but he couldn't get the thing to open enough to get to the heart of the problem.
My husband opened mine, the green one, and worked on it. It is all metal inside. I used a screw driver to open it, but it has been years and I couldn't tell you which one.
Oh wow! I had never heard of that happening! I hope you can figure out how to get it out, or at the very least, it doesn't mess up your die cutting machine!
Every machine is put together with screws of some kind. Turn the machine all around to see what kind of screwdriver you need to take it apart, and keep all the screws/parts in order so you can put it back together. You said the bug is cutting properly even with the little cloud die in some kind of machine housing, so you may just want to leave it alone.
