Default Not sure what to think of this...

I had a Stampin Up party this week and did really well.

One of my girlfriends (lets call her Judy - not her real name) wanted to bring a girl she just started working with because the second girl (lets call her Suzie - not her real name either) wanted to make her wedding invites. I said sure. But Suzie couldn't come so my demo, who is a really good friend of mine, leant a catalogue, mini and sellabration handout for Judy to take to Suzie.

Suzie called the next day to place an order with my demo for a stamp set, some paper and some ink. She gave her credit card number. My demo got worried because neither her or I knew Suzie personally and she wanted to have the credit card slip signed before placing the order in case she got stiffed somehow. Really she said she preferred a cheque or cash. She called and left a message for Suzie, who never called back for 3 days. Meantime we asked Judy if she could bring a cheque out to the demo because Suzie doesn't have a car and lives so far away that the demos hubby won't drive her there to get it or to get the credit card slip signed. I nderstand Judy not wanting to be driving around with the credit card slip, she said no to that, but also said that she wasn't going to do anything else other than take the stuff to Suzie once it arrived.... That was a little annoying because she knows neither of them can physically get to the other one. I am fine if this order doesn't happen on the show and the demo waits until she gets a cheque in the mail from Suzie and told the demo this at the time because I dont want her getting stiffed.

Well then it got weird. The set in question was Barouque Motifs. Judy called me at work and said I was free to say no and she would totally understand. Judy had told Suzie that I was really into stamping and I'm not sure which one of them came up with the idea but they decided to have Judy ask me if I had the set and would I lend it ti Suzie. I told them no because I don't know Suzie at all and Judy was fine with that. Magically about an hour after that Suzie called the demo to say a cheque would be fine and she'd send it in with Judy.

But doesn't it seem weird that they would ask ME, the hostess, to lend a stranger the set that she was going to BUY at my party?????

Or am I over-reacting????

It's never weird to listen to that little voice that's telling you something ain't right. I think it's one of the gifts of being a creative woman and try to encourage all the woman in my life to listen to it.

It just puts me in a really hard spot with a friend asking me to lend something to someone the friend really barely knows and in the process this would screw another friend and myself out of the some of the point of having a party in the first place.

I just think it's plain weird for a stranger to have the nerve to ask if they can borrow ANYTHING! But I agree with wendykins, this won't be the end of the weirdness!

Not weird at all. There are a lot of people in this world that think other peoples things are also theirs, to do with as they please. They are clueless and inconsiderate without realizing it. Usually people only loan to them once because the item loaned comes back to the owner either broken or filthy dirty, if the item even comes back because the borrower has a habit of losing things.

How do I know this? My brother is one such person. He has a heart of gold but doesn't grasp the idea that not everything in life is his to borrow or loan to someone else.

Sounds like your friend "Judy" is cut from the same cloth.

That is really weird. As a former CM consultant I saw a lot of weird things. I also agree this may not be the end of the weirdness. Good luck!

Some people have no problem asking for anything. I have an example. A woman who works at a local scrapbooking store (not even a friend ) asked me if she could borrow some Pearl-ex from me. She only needed enough to make 50 cards...yes that was 50. I had no problem telling her no. People like that have no shame. It was all I could do not to show how she irritated me. I think I am a nice person and she just wanted to take advantage of me. I'm not that nice!!
