A papercrafting group that I'm associated with sent out 900 holiday cards to deployed troops the latter part of September so they could have them to send home for the holidays. One of the boxes containing around 300 has been returned to me due to an insufficient address :( Altho mail has been sent to this individual before, come to find out he's only been receiving about 50% of his mail for some reason.
Since I have no clue about how the military works, I'm hoping someone can offer me suggestions on what I might do with these 300 great holiday cards that would benefit our soldiers. There's not enough time to get them overseas, distributed and sent home in time for the Christmas holiday now. What about sending them to a military base in the states? Do they need them? Any other ideas what I could do with 300 holiday cards that are ready to write notes and send somewhere in time for the holidays?
Any advice from those "in the know" would be greatly appreciated!
We have a group of soldiers from my installation who will be deploying within a month. Would you be interested in sending them here and then I can give them to their commander for them to take with them.
Just let me know and we can work out the particulars!

Str8Fan, if they're leaving within a month would they have time to mail them in time for the holidays? Not that them arriving in time is that big of a deal... I know loved ones would just want to hear from them!
alternatives include sending them to our Hospitals.. Walter Reed, Bethesda, Portsmouth, Tripler and Balboa are the big ones and many recovering troops are sent tho these places. they also all have Fisher Houses which is the military equivalent to Ronald McDonald Houses. our last shoe box swap we collected for the WR Fisher House.

I see what you mean! I forgot that they were going to be holiday cards. Maybe the hospital would be a better idea! You certainly have your choices.
They have the Wounded Warrior Unit at Balboa in San Diego. Then you have the Brooke Army Hospital in San Antonio and of course Walter Reed in DC. Maybe they can divy them up between these organizations!

Pick an address from anysoldier.com and send them on their way tomorrow.. They should receive them within 10 days (I've had boxes received in 7 days). They still have time to send the cards back home and will really appreciate receiving them. And on the customs form under if undeliverable I always put commanding officer same location. I've never had a box sent back in over 4 years...

This should work for you. There are of course some places that take longer. it would be good to select a chaplain or some one who has a lot of people they "suppport". And you can do a search for "cards" to find one who has requested cards. That is a lot to send to some one who is not able to connect with a lot of their peers. And there are some stationed in Kuwait who provide sort of transfer facilities - they would also be able to use a lot, I would thing.
Another idea: Get those cards signed by family, friends, and strangers (I've asked repairman at my house to sign a card and then I'll sign the check) and send them over directly for the troops..
