new SU! stamp set in Stamp It! mag????
I just bought my issue of the Spring 2005 Stamp It! magazine. As I was looking through the mag, I noticed a stamp set on page 85 called Pretty Paisley. Could this be a new set? :o I haven't seen it before! It's awfully cute, well it IS a Stampin' Up! stamp after all! Could this be another one of the new sets that we will see in the Spring 50% off promo?!?!?! I sure do hope so!
I didn't even notice this set until you pointed it out. I know they have a little paisley stamp similar to this one but it is in with Fresh Fillers, a little background filler stamp. I hope this is one of the new sets to come in the Spring special offer! I can hardly wait to see what's coming out in the new catty too!

I haven't seen the Stamp It magazine photo described, but there was a Pretty Paisley background stamp on page 165 of the 2003-2004 catalog. It retired last July, but I'm glad I snatched one before it was gone. I just ordered the Paisley Print in the current catalog on page 179. It's quite a bit different than Pretty Paisley, so it may not be a substitute. I haven't seen very many samples that use it, but I think it will be great for adding subtle texture to background layers.

it is the background set that was being referred to.
some of the stamping appears a bit 'off center' so it led me to believe that it was not just one big background stamp, but perhaps a set made of several stamps that you piece together. like the 2 step stamping.

Someone already said this, Pretty Paisly was in the 2003-2004 Catty. I'm wondering would they reissue a new stamp with the same name?

You know, the more I think about it, the weirder (oh my, making up words already!) it does seem. SU does not take cards in mags lightly... they use it as a promotion of their company. If they have given them this card, using that set.... HMMMM makes you wonder.
I had never thought about the reissue of a set, but remember the promotion last year (? or year before) for the 15th anniversary? Maybe they ARE doing something with this set for the March promotion.
Interesting, very interesting....

Pretty Paisley background was retired with the 2003-2004 catalog.
At the time the submission was accepted, that probably was not the case.
You must remember that submissions are often accepted 6 mos. to a year before they actually appear in print in a magazine as they must work months and months ahead of schedule.
The magazine encourages submitters to make sure that the supplies & materials used in their projects, AT THE TIME OF SUBMISSION, will be available a year from that point, but that is not always possible.
Renae Curtz, the artist of that piece, is in all likelihood, (I am assuming this because there is a tag after her name, "courtesy of SU!", which means Renae herself didn't submit it but SU! as the manufacturer of the images used did) an in-house designer for SU!; the piece may have been submitted and accepted nearly a year ago, before SU! had even determined Pretty Paisley was on the retirement list.
Hope that clarifies. It is indeed retired and not a new, upcoming background stamp. It was replaced by the current "Paisley Print" in the 2004-2005 catalog.

Actually SU has released a couple of different sets with the same name, some that were even both in the same catalogs at the same time (don't ask me why!).
There was Sunflower (a set of 1) and the DD Sunflower set, and they both appeared at the same time in both the 97, 98 and 99 catalogs!
They had Borders Mini (both were in the 97-98 catalog at the same time!)
They have even had 2 different background basics although they were never in the same catalog together.
I guess they have learnt that it wasn't a good idea, because the duplicate all seem to be older sets with at least one of them now retired ...
