Yep, definately a new recruit special - but there seems to be some "date" issues. The SU site say's the Sept. 14th, but right now the flyer says the 30th.
$199 for the kit with optional add ons. You get a ton of stuff. I am fairly certain that you can see a picture/list by visiting www.stampinup.com and clicking the specials link.
I'm not a demo, as I said before, but I used to be -- signed up when there was a similar special. This is an AWESOME deal. If you like SU this is the time to sign up, get a ton of products at a dirt cheap price, get your first qualifying order 30% off and then decide whether to stay on. Contact your fave demo for details!

Oh crud! The temptation!!! I was really planning on waiting until next year to sign back up--figuring they'll have some great incentives with the 20th anniv. and all. But this is the BEST, most valuable incentive SU! runs--in the 4 years I was a demo I never saw anything better.
Thanks, Kim, for listing everything. It is definetely a great deal. I've had gals sign up in the past under me just to purchase the starter kit (they never intended to be an active demonstrator) and they didn't have the extra bonus of free stamp pads. It's so easy to be demonstrator but even if you didn't want to do anything with the business, the starter kit, especially now, is a terrific bargan.
This is the promo that got me too! There are no obligations if you take advantage. If you choose to stay active you need to sell or purchase $300 a quarter. Your first order (made in the first 45 days) of $150 or more you get 30% off instead of 20%. If you don't order for a quarter you get one month to make it up the $100 or they just drop you. No hassle and no paperwork.

All that happens if you don't meet requirements is that you are no longer a demo. You don't have to reimburse the company for anything. Pretty cool deal, really. I wish I could re-sign!
This is such an awesome deal! The value of the kit plus the 12 free inkpads is 390.65 (that includes the value of the business supplies). In addition to the retail price savings, you also get $32.87 in free shipping and pay tax on only $199 instead of the full $390.65. It's just amazing. The bargain shopper in me is going crazy because I can't take advantage of it myself!
That's right. There is NO catch. Totally legit. Sign up, pay the $199 plus tax and shipping (I THINK) and never purchase again and SU is fine with it. Most folks stay for at least a few months to buy up everything they want with the discount. Some who think they'll just buy the starter kit end up staying as demos and loving it.
No, I'm not going to re sign at this time! But if I were on the fence this is when I would do it.

I'm one who has been on the fence waiting for a good incentive. This IS a great incentive. Just not sure the timing is quite right for me. I'm in a hostess club that I organized for my demo and don't know how signing up as a demo would impact it.

Talk to your demo about it. She may have some ideas. Depending on what the committment is, maybe you could continue in the club through its current rotation but purchase just the minimums at the demo price. Or maybe she has someone who is on a waiting list who could take your place. In any case, you loose nothing by talking with her about it to see if she has any suggestions.
I've been waiting for a deal like this! I'm going to sign up, too. I think I'm going to go with Rich Regals. I have a question, though. Does the 30% off order count toward your $300 minimum? Also, if I sign up now, do I have until December to meet the $300 requirement. I'm doing this strictly as a hobby demo (and to hopefully help with my taxes), and I have a couple of friends (2) who stamp/scrap as well. Would it be okay to offer them my discount to help make the $300 minimum requirement? I don't want to do anything I'll get in trouble for! Thanks for all the great info.
Yes, your first order counts towards minimums. What is even better-- SU! counts all the merchandise you order at full price to go towards your quota-- even though you get the 20% discount (or 30% on first order, as long as it is within the first 45 days you are a demo). Say you order $300 for your first order-- you've made your minimum, but you pay $210 before s/h and tax. No commissions are paid on specific supply items (catalogs, minis, forms, etc) so they do not count towards your minimum. As for your last question, as long as you follow SU! guidelines (no selling of current stuff on eBay, no cash and carry, etc) you may run your business as you please. I have 3 hobby demos in my downline who offer certain friends their discount, so they have sales other than their own to count towards their minimums. Good luck!

There is nothing in the Stampin' Up! agreement that prohibits selling items at your cost (i.e. giving away all of your discounts). However, I know many demos who have started this practice and have regretted it later when they decided to pursue SU as a business. Once you start, it's hard to stop giving away the discount, and if you do it for some of your customers all of them will want it. I have also heard stories where a friend buys from a demo at a discount and then passes that discount on to her friends, etc. I'm not saying you will necessarily have this problem with your friends, but this kind of thing can backfire.
You also need to remember that things like order forms, catalogs and mini catalogs cost money, and if you give away your entire discount you will have nothing to cover the cost of those items.
So those are just some of the things to think about in terms of giving people your discount. If you want to share the discount with your friends you might set up certain days in a quarter when they can get 20% off. That way, they will have an incentive to order on those days, but if there is a special that will expire before the "designated discount day" they will have an incentive to place those orders as well. And if you change your mind something like a designated discount day is much easier to discontinue later than "I will give you my discount any time you want it".
Thank you both so much for the information! You are right about the discount. I think I will give my mom the discount all the time, and send out emails near the end of the quarter offering a discount or maybe just offering free shipping if I need to make my minimums. You are so right--I will definitely need the extra money to order catalogs and minis. That leads me to another question--how much are catalogs and minis, typically?
