I sure hope the one in Spokane, WA gets a do over, it really needs it, in fact it would be nice if it was in a new shopping area also. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed.
Hi- Right now, there are only 200 or so stores that are going to be remodeled. In the future, all of the stores will be done. Our nearest store on Long Island, NY is in Riverhead. Next week will start the renovation. I'm looking forward to seeing what will be different as I'm a dept. mgr for that section of the store in Rocky Point. It's exciting. Plus check out our new "uniforms"
I was in one of the new Michael's in North Hills Mall at Interstate 820 & State Highway 183 in Hurst, North Texas last week. There was a banner on the side of the store stating that it was the "new Michaels". It's much larger and scrapbooking and papercrafting is more prominent with lots more inventory. I purchased several items using my 50% off coupons.
Where in Hurst is the new store??? I know my DH is going to have to have directions!!!
It's at North Hills Mall, (a huge shopping mall) at the intersection of Interstate 820 and State Highway 183. From Lewisville, take Highway 121 South, stay on 121 which will merge into Hwy. 183. Exit at Bedford-Euless Road go left at light under Freeway and Northeast Mall is right there (Michaels is outside the mall) you can't miss it! There are also Joann's, Hobby Lobby and every other retail store you can think of.
When I told my mgr today about this forum, and he went on line to look at the pictures of the new store, he was envious that it wasn't our store getting revamped. He told me that he doesn't know if any other store in the area getting done now, that's on LI. But eventually they will probably all be converted. These 200 test stores will determine if they go forward with renovations. I'm so glad that I'll have one 20 minutes from home. Exciting!!!
Our Michael's is one of the stores that is being revamped. I was told by several of the women who work there that there are only 17 stores in the nation that they are doing this to. For now. I am happy to report that our store is getting in great new products so far (new for our store anyway). They have gotten in some Basic Grey, many clear stamp sets by Inkadinkado, lots of open stock papers and cardstock. They are arranging papers, embellishments, etc., by theme. One whole section is dedicated to birthday, one to travel, one for pets, one for Disney, one for wedding, one for Christmas, etc. The entire center of the store is slated for scrapbooking. They don't have all the new products out yet, but I am happy with what I've seen so far. All the products that were dead in the water at our store (stuff that doesn't sell) is being shipped out to other stores. The employees are now wearing tan pants and black shirts as a kind of uniform. Our store is supposed to be completed by the second week of October and I can't wait to see what it looks like when it's done .
Hope they revamp something in northern virginia. I've got 4 michael's within 20 minutes of me and none of them really have anything. (Although I did spy the basic grey paper at one last week).

Woo Hoo!! The Folsom, CA store is going to the new format!!! I went in today and they have a ton o' stuff on sale for 50% off the lowest marked price. They hope to have the new format done by the end of October!! This store is one of the worst in the Sacramento area, so it's great that we are finally getting something cool.
I bought $217 dollars but after the 40% coupon, a $50 dollar gift card, my out of pocket was $46. What a fun time I had -- sorry to brag, but I'm just so jazzed.
Does anyone know if the new M in Appleton WI is the new format? I live 4 hours from there and can't wait to see it. Last time I was down there, it was not yet open.
I missed the pics the first time through as well! There's a link to a blog in post #13 of this thread that has the pics on it. I'm going today to check it out after lunch with my DH. Can't wait!
The Mikes on 28th St in the Grand Rapids MI area has moved to a new store down the road and it is awesome. They have tons of new stuff and everything is easy to find. It's so bright and cheerful even my DH doesen't mind going there.
I talked to one of the ladies that worked there and she said by the end of the year there will be 11 of these stores in the US. She only knew of one location and that is Denton, TX.
New store opening October 12 in Fort Wayne, IN. A clerk told me it would be entirely different than the current store.
Have you noticed on the %off coupons that books and magazines are now excluded? Had a 50% off coupon last week and could not use it on the book I really wanted. Also when they have 40% or 50% off coupons have you noticed that almost everything you want is already 30% off? Do they not want us to shop with them or is this just a gimick to get us in the store?
I just went to the grand opening yesterday! It's awesome. The entire middle section of the store is devoted to scrapbooking and cardmaking. I got 10 of the photo boxes for $10.00, they are usually $4.49 each. I needed them for storage and you can't beat that price. I also got 6 T-shirts for my son for $10.00. They had some really nice ribbon there for $.20 a spool for 10 yards off ribbon on each. They had some awesome colors to choose from. The best part of all of this (or worst if you ask my dh), is that it's less than 1 mile away from where I live! Woohoo! If I need something, I can just hop in the car and be there in less than 2 minutes! Can you tell I'm excited! lol

OOoooh! I hope they build one in Charlottesville, VA. The one we have here is okay but could certainly use some improvement and they'd have no competition. There's no HL, ACM, or LSS to compete with; only a tiny Joann's.

They have nothing new and the stores are so disorganized. The clerks are NOT helpful and I am hoping this is giong to find it's way down there to use too.
I just got a 2nd job at Mike's solely for the discount (LOL) and have training tomorrow. I'm fully prepared to march in there with a load of questions about the revamping! If I find out anything definite, like how to tell if your store is getting redone, I'll post here!

I was just at one of the new Michael's in Latham NY and it was BEAUTIFUL!!!! My husband "says" that I was in there for about 2 1/2 hours but it only seemed like about 10 minutes! There was just so much different stuff from the same old stuff we always see in Michael's. I used alot of coupons!!! I spent alot of money but I didn't pay full price for anything! That counts as kinda being good, right??? LOL

My friend called me a few weeks ago to let me know about her Michaels (Centennial Hills in Las Vegas) was being redone. I was pretty jealous. But then I went to my Michael's in East Riverside/Moreno Valley, CA and found out that our store was being redone too! WOO HOO! The guy I talked to was pretty excited and said that only 20 stores were being redone and ours was the only one in So Cal. He said that next spring all stores would be redone if the new format worked. They have already started work in my store. I'm hoping in a few weeks it's finished.

I live in Albany but spend every other weekend in Valdosta and I agree...these two have got to get some new stuff (including employees at the Albany location). It would be awesome if one of these was redone.

Michaels. I am in the boonies and there is nothing here. We have walmart and Joann's and one tiny lss....i've got more stuff than she does.....grrrr....
the nearest Michael's is 2 hrs, and there is also an AC MOORE.....the market is wide open in western pa~!
