My four year old son wants to make his gift for daddy. Great, right? Not so much. I had a plan. Everything was good to go until I found out (10 minutes ago) that daddy is off tomorrow and only works half a day on Wednesday and then is off on Thursday. My son is in school until at least 1230. His break doesn't start until Thursday. Daddy has been home recovering from surgery for weeks so we couldn't work on it until now. Need new plan...have no craft stores in our area, have no Wal-mart type stores in our area, must work with my stash. Suggestions? Thoughts? PLEASE!?!
I helped my two nephews make "sonobe" origami ornaments for their friends. All you need is paper and ribbon, but it's really cute. We also made very simple christmas cards. I let them stamp the christmas images after I inked them. Good luck, hope it works out.
Can you print a pic or two of your son? How about something that involves that. Maybe a frame (made with chipboard or layers of cereal box cardboard) or an ornament with his pic on it.
Or in that same light ... how about a 'coaster' (etc.) as a base for that photo to create a special hanging ornament! Your DS could sign the back for his Dad!
When my boys were younger I always printed things from DLTK crafts for kids site. Lots of ideas for all sorts of occassions. With a printed template that your son can decorate with stuff from your stash it should be a quick and fun project. Good luck!!
Vronica;)
you can recycle an old cd use DP to cover it up and make an ornament with his picture on it so daddy cn hang id where ever, do you have maybe some muslim you can have your DS make handprints with paint and then add a lil poem on it , a paperbag book with pics and let DS decorate with drawings and his own words, or you could have him make a messge in a bottle for DH take and empty plastic bottle let ds decorate it and then put a message in there , or my all time favorite is a coupon book redeemable whenever examples 24 kisses good nite, help wash the car, watch a movie with you, rub your shoulders, put your socks on you, make you breakfast, the list could go on . I wish you lots of luck and just know whatever he makes for daddy he will be happy and proud of his DS

Is the project you had in mind a really time-consuming one? (Like multiple days?) If not, how about just suggesting that daddy might want to go see a movie one of those afternoons he's off (after your son is home from school)? Being Christmas and all, he'd probably get the hint that he needs to be out of the house for a holiday surprise and maybe he'd enjoy having an excuse to get out and "play" for a bit by himself.... That way, you don't have to change your project plans....
How about a hand=drawn family portrait by your son and then you two could fancy it up with some snowflake and Christmas tree stamps, tons of glitter, just let him go to town. I always loved the stuff my boys made themselves.

I like cincystamper's idea. Also, if you will be working in a room with a door, close the door and tell hubby that it's off limits and to stay out until further notice.
Since your son is 4 years old, the project can't be too time consuming - little guys has a short attention span. Can't daddy work on something in his 'workshop' (watch TV, etc.) I bet your son would get a kick out of posting a 'KEEP OUT' sign. I also vote for a picture of your son, son and dad or the whole family as an ornament. If you use double sided paper or have your son draw/color on the blank side, you won't have a 'bad' side. (Be sure to put the year on it so everyone with remember.)
Good luck and have fun helping your son create something special.
