and I wasn't really "wowed" by anything in there. I did like the watermelon on the cover though--that was cute. Maybe I'm just tired and need to take another look tomorrow. (my dh left on a fishing trip this morning and won't be back until Sunday pm, so I have mom and dad duty until then). Have y'all received your June/July issue yet? What do you think?

I just got mine. A few things sparked me, but I notice I'm getting tired of all the same old scrapbook materials being used again and again and again? But, then, maybe I'm just plain tired and that's why I'm not glued to it right this instant. . .
One thing I've always found curious, tho . . . They use some incredibly expensive embellishments on cards . . . a year ago they had an issue with a BBQ invitation on the front cover that used a Junkitz zipper. Now these things must cost at least $2???? OK, so you're sending out these invitations to how many people? Let's say 6 families. So, by the time you're done making them, you've invested $2 each ($12 total) JUST FOR THE FREAKIN' ZIPPERS!!!!!
I just don't get why ANYBODY would do that and therefore cannot understand the magazine showing the creation of an invitation to a BBQ that will probably end up costing at least $3 each + postage by the time all is said and done.
What am I missing here??? Is there some secret????

But I know you could create something that would cost so much less, becuase I've seen the darling "faux doodlebug tokens" I love them, I keep trying to make them, but mine just don't look as cute as yours. I wish I could spend a day stamping with you! (ok, a week... or two) I love your creativity!
Anyway.... I haven't gotten my Paper Crafts mag yet....maybe tomorrow....
I'm serious, waaaaay, girl!!! Sometimes I think "Sheesh, what is this??? Who in Hades can afford it?????? If I won't pay $5 for a card at Hallmark, why would I wanna buy $6 just in supplies to MAKE *one*??????

yeah, I thought the same thing. Sure, they're cute, but man...who would spend all that money. You couldn't afford all the burgers for those cute invitations.
I've seen scrapbook pages that used $10-$20 worth of embellishments and thought how crazy the designers must be! It takes all the fun out of creating when you know you just spent an OUTRAGEOUS amount of money :(
I'm glad I came across this thread... I'm headed out to the book store and Michaels in search of Rubber Stamper (just can't wait) and usually pick up PaperCrafts... I'll skip it this time!
I response to the cost of embellishments, it doesn't usually cross my mind how much I spend per card or per page... for something like a BBQ or someone's birthday, or a page for a special vacation, I'd rather have a WOW than worry about 'geez, how much did I pay for this charm I want to use'. But, then again, I work solely to support my habit, so I guess it's like a drugee who doesn't think "how much did I spend on this pot I am smoking?" LOL!!!

Thank you!!!! I thought I was the only one thinking that! I keep my expensive accents in my scrapbook and use less expensive stuff on my cards for that very reason!! I think when you receive a boxful of stuff to make samples for a magazine, you don't really care how much the card ends up costing you. I also suspect some companies give free supplies to magazines/designers in order to have their products featured in mags.
I haven't seen the new issue yet, but somehow I'm never inspired by the Spring and summer stuff. I must really be into the fall/winter/Christmas stuff because those are always the more inspired issues, in my humble opinion!
This was my first issue, and I'm really glad you brought this up. I ordered the magazine because everybody was raving about it, then wasn't wowed by too much myself. I did kind of like the foil technique they showed with the leaf from Shapes & Shadows, though. I'll keep looking forward to future issues now that I know it wasn't just me!

Got mine today, too. First issue. I was hoping it was as great as the issue of "Stamp It" I bought in February. I wasn't wowed with this issue. Hopefully, the next issue will bowl me over.

You hit the embellishment question on the nose-they sure do get product to "design" with if they are on the design team, but if you are just the average cardmaker and sending in your creations "hoping to get discovered" then they are your own expense......
My issue must be in it's way here soon-I guess i don;t need to go stalk the maillady from the sounds though :(
I too was in search of The Rubber Stamper when I saw the PaperCrafts at our local Walmart. I looked through the mag and just was not impressed, so I decided not to waste my money. One mag that I am looking for is "The Joy of Cardmaking" put out by PaperCrafts. My DIL had a copy last weekend and I got some of the greatest ideas from it. I've been on the search ever since, but only can find it to order on the PaperCrafts website. It is a special issue and is $14.95.

I've been buying PC from the stand and this was my first subscription issue. I felt exactly the same way. The only thing I really liked was the watermelons!
