Default Mustard Seed Distress Oxide Issue

Has anyone else had issues with Distress Oxide in Mustard Seed? I am on my second one having ditched the first but this one has gone "oily" too?
Anyone else had the issue or know a fix, please?

Thanks

Default Yep - AGAIN!

I'm sorry you're all having problems with you Mustard Seed. There seems to be a problem with that formula over the long term.

Below is a link to my thread on my original Mustard Seed which Ranger replaced (March 2020). Last month I went to use that replacement pad and it was a sticky thick sludge.

I suggest reaching out and send pix if you can, they will probably replace it. I didn't bother reaching out again figuring I was just trying to con them into free product. I guess I should have.

Good luck!

As fifwesfan says, I’d report it to Ranger. The more they know there’s a potential problem with something, the more they’re likely to look in to it for a fix. I had a problem with a Distress colour many years ago now and they were super-helpful and keen to gather as much info about it as possible (as well as arranging a replacement pad for me).

I might suggest you could also post to Tim Holtz's blog about it since it is his line there.

This happened to me… it’s the only color I have ever had an issue with. It got a kind of hard blotchy problem on the surface that wouldn’t ink. I sent pictures and have a new pad that so far is fine. I’m sure they’d appreciate knowing and would address it.

I contacted them and Tim Holtz at the end of last week so hope to hear something soon. I wonder if deep yellow is a difficult colour to make as I also have a pot of Blending Ink in Sunshine Yellow that went oily on top and other colours haven't.

Ranger's answer was it shouldn't affect performance but I wrote back pointing out it did untill I scraped it off.

People's descriptions of this problem (e.g., it got a kind of hard blotchy problem on the surface that wouldn’t ink) remind me of the problems people have had over the years with many red inks, that is usually explained as a problem with the chemistry of the formulation of inks that include actual gold. Occasionally a chemist/stamper pops in to explain it all here, and maybe that will happen again.
