Default mounting foam

I bought some mounting foam to convert my wooden block stampin up stamps to clear mount. I bought the 1/16 foam, firstly, because it was white and second, because it was so much cheaper.

I was told if it doesn't stamp well then I could just stamp it over a foam sheet like a mouse pad and I will have no problem. Sounds easy.

But as I'm looking at it, I'm wondering if I can just attach it to the already exsisting foam on the back of my stampin up stamps. Has anyone tried to do this? Were there any problems?

I've done it and had no problems. I believe EZ-Mount made 1/16" for that purpose. I always buy the 1/16" for just the bare rubber and have no problems. If some of the stamps don't stamp well, I stick it to another layer of 1/16" making it 1/8".

Great. But is there such thing as to much foam backing? I mean if the stamp already has a 1/8 foam backing and I add the 1/16 to the back of that, will there be to much foam?

I suppose there could be such a thing as too much foam but I have mounted the Stampin" Up stamps directly on the 1/16" foam and have had no problems. This is a direct quote from Sunday International regarding their thin foam:

"Z Thin Mount - 8 1/2" x 11"
A Thinner version of our EZMount Cushion (1/16" Thick). The perfect solution for small stamps or stamps that come already mounted to a double sided adhesive foam (ie. Stampin' Up Stamps)"

I didn't buy the EZ mount brand, I bought a cheaper version on ebay, but when I was searching ebay I noticed that they sell EZ mount as well. The EZ mount sheets were around 4 something each and the ones I bought were only 2 something. I really don't see the difference from EZ mount to the one I bought, except the one I bought was white.

I just bought Cling Cushion (thin) through Blockheads Paper Arts, and was very pleased with the service. It worked fine attaching it to the SU stamp which already had foam backing (but I had not yet mounted on the wooden block). They sell a thin and a thick Cling Cushion.
