My mother loves butterflies too. So do I. She likes purples and blues as well. Those are the starting points for me. My mother-in-law loves flowers and doesn't like purple. I use those guidlines for her cards.
While both my mother and MIL have passed, I always think of the card I would create for them this time of year. My MIL loved hydrangea flowers, so I would take out my SU hydrangea and make a card for her. I think she received several with this flower over the years. My Mom loved roses. Each year, I would find a new rose stamp and had to have it. I have several. I do remember a Paper Smooches one and she was at my house when I gave it to her. She studied it and analyzed it as she was a card maker. Thanks for the memories.

My mother passed when I had just turned 11 and my MIL about 15 years ago. I always make cards for my sisters, but this is the first year I don't have my sweet big sister. I have had two special ladies that have been like a mother to me and have only one left. She is in her 90s, so not sure she will be with me much longer. Even though she has been thousands of miles away for 8 years now she still gets a card (as long as it's purple, she is tickled) and my DIL, remaining sister and the 5 women that are close to me and are fantastic mothers to their children and grandchildren get cards. Before he passed, my dad got a mother's day card, as he was the best mother a father could be.

My mom loves flowers but this year I changed it up a bit and made her a card with strawberries on the front. She used to love going to the Strawberry Festival in Plant City, FL for years. Now she is in an asst living place as she has alzheimers.
My mom is a gardener and bird watcher, so I usually incorporate one or both of those. There's a lot of variety in the colors I've used, but I always try to make it an extra special card with lots of details. Last year's was a diagonal Z fold.
She also reads a lot. Maybe next year I should try to incorporate a book or books. Hmmmmm...

My mother likes butterflies and her favorite color is blue.
I always make extra special cards for her (usually some sort of 3D card). This year, I didn't use blue or butterflies on her card, but rather floral DSP matted on rose gold mirri card stock. I followed Mixed Up Craft's "Faux Stepper Card" tutorlal. https://mixedupcraft.com/2022/04/30/...stepper-cards/
Both my mother and mother-in-law are gone now, but I always made them a card for Mother's Day. My mom's favorite flower was the chrysanthemum, but she also loved Asian designs. I sometimes make cards for my two sisters, and for my daughter now, but my sisters are both traveling and won't be home for Mother's Day so I skipped it this year. However, I did manage to make one for my daughter, who I will see on Sunday. It took two hours of stamping, making a scenic background, and fussy cutting, but I think she'll love it.
Happy Mother's Day to those who celebrate!

I make Mothers' Day cards for my daughter and D-I-L, This year they are Blushing Bride and Chartreuse. Viney cover die with sparkling HAPPY and flag Moher's Day in white. They are both in their 50s and like sparkly.
My Mother and Mother-in-law have both passed but I always make a Mother's Day card for my wonderful daughter-in-love. She likes earth colors and primitive country designs or any simple design in those colors. This year I used crumbcake (kraft) cardstock and white embossed a simple open leaf design. I lightly watercolored inside the leaves with light brown ink. Here is a link to her card:
