In the thread about picking favorite colors, I noticed that Mint Melody and Going Gray are nowhere to be found! I've used the Mint *very* rarely and the GG is awesome for things like stamping the jar and bag in All Wrapped Up.
Anyone love Mint Melody? Maybe you can give us ideas of what to do with it!
While Mint Melody ranks low on the colors I grab, I did discover that if you bleach Ballet Blue (at least my run of BB) it turns Mint Melody. So, I have made a card or two using MM as an accent color............this might not be true of other runs of BB as the core can change, which affects the bleached color.
I've used it with barely banana and one of the following: positively pink, bliss blue (I think) or lovely lilac; for doing a background for a baby card!
The attached card doesn't have any mint green, but you get the idea!
Mint Melody--blech, ick, yuck!! I have to challenge myself to use it or it would get all dusty! I've used it for baby cards mostly, but it's a chore to force myself to pull it out. You'd think I'd love something with the initials M & M but not this time
No help for Mint Melody, but I do use a lot of going gray. I spray it with a mixture of silver pearl ex and hair spray, then spritz it on..It makes the most lovely silver paper for cards. :-) Creamy caramel works that way too for gold (creamy caramel and aztec gold). I use really rust and copper for making a nice copper paper too.

Mint Melody is definately not for me. Others I can't stand are Tempting Turqoise and Magenta - yuck. I let my daughter use these colors!
But I do use Going Grey alot. I like to sponge the edges with Silver Encore and use it as a mat instead of the Silver paper.

About 6 months ago, there were two challenges to use Mint Melody and Going Gray... a whole bunch of samples were posted, but of course now they are in separate galleries. You might try doing searches for Mint Melody or Going Gray and see what comes up - many of the cards had titles incorporating the names of the colors.

hmmmm....
maybe I'll have to try those two colors together. Thanks for the idea!

poor MM :( so many ppl not liking it. how sad. oh well, I can honestly say that I do like MM. it's not my most favorite, but one of my most favorite OSW's ever I did with MM. it was a hit too! I used it with paris in the spring, and orchid opulence. I don't recall everything I made with it, but I know I used a 12x12 sheet of MM CS to stamp on, and I made a little basket, a 6x6 scrapbook page, a few tags, and a card that everyone loved. it also makes great baby pages, and is good for Easter, and springy things. I really think every color has its place. even more mustard, and that's one ugly color! but it does have it's place, at least it's good for fall cards and pages.
just my 2 cents
Michelle
How funny is this??? I just voted for MM in the poll, then scrolled down and saw this thread. I'm just weird, I know, b/c like I said in the other post, I do like MM and took it as a challenge when my upline said she didn't like the color because she couldn't think of anything to do with it.
To second someone else on this thread: Mint Melody and Marv. Magenta - YUCK, YUCK, YUCK!
Oh, SU, please replace these with some other pretty colors - Hmmm, a nice peach would be good in the Soft Subltles family to replace the ugly mint.
Or a true baby blue shade (Bliss Blue is not soft enough for baby boy cards, IMO).
As for the magenta, I don't care what they replace it with - just anything would be better than that harsh color. Now I know someone out there just loves this color and has made a totally awesome card with it!
I'm new to stamping and just ordered MM and GG for some of the colors to start with! My daughter helped talk me into it. I'm wondering now what I am going to use them for.

Hmmm....
Try using them together... an interesting combination.

I use going gray a lot for masculine cards, it looks great layered with baroque burgandy, night of navy, and not quite navy. I think Mint melody looks great on Easter/Spring cards, but Michelle beat me to that suggestion!
You know what made me like Mint Melody? The cards in the catalog with Exotic Blooms, where they mixed MM with Rose Red and Creamy Caramel. I think those cards are SO eye-catching and cool, though I would never have thought to mix the colors myself. I actually bought MM and Exotic Blooms specifically b/c of those samples! Yes, my demo-soon-to-be-upline loves me.
Going Gray is hands-down awesome for the watercolor pencil / blender pen technique, because it looks like a pencil drawing on those fine-line images.
I'm a fan of both! I do wish SU had a nice peach, though...I bought one from CTMH.
;) Amanda, off to try that Mint Chocolate combo idea.
Please all go over and vote on the Poll.... I'm keeping track of the votes as long as people keep posting... { uh...well...dudh...no posts - no counting needed !!!! )
I'm not a huge fan of MM either. I mostly use it for neutral baby cards.
I did like the idea of mint chocolate chip though!! This is what I came up with.

Oh, Marjori! I love the mint chocolate chip card! That color combo is so yummy! And I just love the vellum flowers. Okay, I'm inspired to play with my MM tonight.
I used to really like MM before they updated the colors back to orginial pantones. Really miss the softer hue in Mint Medley, Bliss Blue and Pretty in Pink. :?

Somewhere I saw another discussion regarding the mint melody. Someone (sorry, I have no idea who to credit!) said she often uses mint melody combined with bliss blue for retro-color themed cards. I tried it, using the corner of a square shape stamp to make a border with little triangles around the edges of a trading-card sized piece with an appropriate image in the middle, and I just love it. Now it's one of my favorite color combinations!
BTW-I love the Magenta and the Tempting Turquoise, but haven't yet gotten into the going gray. Thanks for the gray ideas!

"Just when I think I have all the stamps I need... I get a new catalog in the mail!"
Love this thread..... I agreed to hand-stamp my niece's bat mitzvah invitations (200 of them -- gasp!) and gave her some prototypes to pick from. She chose one but asked that I substitute Mint Melody as the color -- instead of beauful Mellow Moss. I gasped. At first, I was going to go along with it and then I realized that I really could never live through stamping 200 Mint Melody invitations as I think the color is awful! I was also cringing at the thought of all those invitees thinking that was an illustrative sample of my stamping. So, I asserted my "professional" opinion and told Jess that both Mint Melody and Blush Blossom (it always looks brown to me...) would not work well. She's now going with Lavendar Lace and a different design option (Toile Blossoms) that will look great. Phew.
I like the color of the Mint Melody but I can never think of any reason to use it outside of Easter eggs. Leaves and flowers are just not that color green! I don't understand the issue with Going Gray though, I use mine a lot, I like to sponge backgrounds and I also use it for word stamps inside a card. Sometimes I even use it in watercoloring. Someone mentioned Marvelous Magenta, I have this and don't use it much. Tempting Turquoise, use it all the time in scrapbooks (I have boys, so it works) Taken With Teal is a color I have trouble using as well, I've used this for masculine cards before and in scrapbooks occasionally, but I don't grab it very often. I'll have to try the mint and chocolate chip, that looks awesome together! Who knew?!
I used to really hate Mint Melody, but now it's grown on me a little. I admit I don't use it alot - it seems too bright in comparison to a lot of colors. My cousin had me do 60 baby shower invitations withi MM as the base. I was horrified when she picked it at first (she was having a boy but didn't want everything to be blue). We ended up making the invitations with Mint Melody, with a little Bliss Blue and Barely Banana. I have to admit - they came out ok.
If I can ever figure out how to get a picture attached, I'll post it.
As for Going Gray - with a little PearlEx & hairspray, it's a nice substitute for the silver without all the extra cost!
I too have alot of leftover Mint Melody. I recently saw a combination that I want to try... I saw someone make cards using one of the watercolor garden sets, using white, mint melody and almost amethyst. They were very elegant!
Marvelous Magenta is one of my favorites. Here are some of my favorite combos:
a) Magenta, Navy and Gable green
b) Magenta, eggplant envy, not quite navy and garden green
Taken with Teal looks great with summer sun, white and basic black! I use the Smile set on US white cardstock with these colors, looks great and can be masculine or feminine! Try it!
Mint Melody is definitely on my least used list...I think it is the absolute color I use the least. Marvellous Magenta? What's not to love...looks so great with Yoyo Yellow! And with More Mustard...ooh...love that one too!
I do like Mint Melody with Bliss Blue for fishy cards...it makes a great color combo for the LIttle Layers fish and for Fishy Friends. I'm going to try the Orchid Opulence combo though...sounds intriguing.
The only MM card I saw that I liked was the sand dollar from Nature's Something or other on white. Very pretty. Bought the color, haven't used it since!
Magenta---Ugh!
Try the Stipple Butterfly on TT with USW paper as accent---geeeorgeous!
GG, wonderful when stamped on white and used with Sage, very masculine!
Let's all try and upload our samples with these colors, and make sure to put the colors in the description! I'd love to have my mind changed!

I'm a little late putting in my 2 cents, but I thought this topic was funny so I had to say something. Mint Melody was the first color I bought from SU! because it was different from anything else I had. I never use it. I will though, after reading this! (?) Also, I like Tempting Turquoise and Marvelous Magenta, but don't have - yet. I wonder how different Marv. Magenta is from Orchid Opulence which I see used a lot in some drop dead gorgeous examples on here. One more thing - one of my favorite cards was Give Thanks #2 posted by lynann on Nov. 4, 2004 done in Taken with Teal & Creamy Caramel. I loved the colors! But Mint Melody, well, it makes me think of ice cream - hmmmm...
