Default Mike's vs. Jo's

I have an international trip next summer that I'd like to make some extra money for. I was toying with the idea of getting a part time job at either Michael's or Joanns (both are close) in the evenings to help. Just wondering if any of you have worked for either/both companies and what your thoughts were. I'm a bit nervous about it because I've never worked retail. Thanks in advance.

Well, I've never worked at either, so take my opinion with a grain of salt - but as a consumer ( and I'm assuming here that you would be taking advantage of your store employee discount) go with the store that you most frequently gravitate to ( I'm also assuming that the wages and hours would be comparable). Of course, if there is a big discrepancy in the rate of pay then you must follow your wallet. I would think that if you work at a place that you also enjoy shopping at it would just be icing on the cake.

Let us know what you decide.

Pick the one that has the least stuff you like. That way you won't be tempted to spend the money you are making for your trip! ;)

I was just looking online and it doesn't appear that either of the close stores are hiring atm. I could sign on for seasonal help when that time comes. Hehe, I guess this will be a test to see how much money I can save working in a store like this...omg, I'm going to be soooo tempted!

I think if I were to work retail for extra money, I'd want to sell something like auto parts or maybe fishing gear... Something that I wouldn't shop for!

Well good luck to you you whatever you decide. I really have no advice. As my husband would say to me.....It's like taken an alcoholic to a bar just to hang out(like my dad) ME the shopaholic. It would never work.
