Yep, yesterday while I was at Mike's using the 30% off your total regular priced stuff, the cashier told me about the new 18 x 18 scrapbook that Martha has coming out. She also mentioned that ALL of her stuff is EXPENSIVE! I kind of figured that, plus being in Canada we pay more anyway...lol
The Michaels closest to me in San Diego is pathetic and suffers from forever- empty shelves. If they improve this store in any way and can keep it stocked they can have my business again. Their scrapbook stuff has changed little over the years and really needs to be updated and expanded. Look at their huge selection of beads and beading supplies to see what I mean!

I went into Michaels on Friday to use the 50% coupon I had and they had many many items on clearance, sizzix dies, stickers, making memories brads, jolees, etc. I asked why so much was on clearance and the cashier told me that Martha Stewarts exclusive line was coming in and only Michaels was going to be carrying it. I remember reading somewhere a while back that she is working with EK success on her line. Should be interesting to see....
Went to my Michael's on friday unfortunately we did not have anything new and really not too much on clearance....I will have to be on the lookout though, maybe soon.

I have been to the store in IB and it is awful. The one in Charlestion where I live is a little bit better but not much. I really hope they start to get more scrapping and card making stuff in.
I read somewhere the MS line would be 18 x 18! Crazy!
Crazy, but dare I say, fun too! And maybe a nod back to the olden days. I know its probably just in my head, but that size seems like it would be old-fashioned to me - nostalgic?

My Michael's sucks the major big all day sucker. They have ton of stuff on clearance and took out an aisle of the cute little wood products, but none of the gals (they come into Starbucks every morning and we chat) know what's coming. Whatever it is, it will be 2 or 3 weeks behind every other Michaels.... We do have the Martha flyers tho.... bleh.....
Hey... didn't Martha do something with SU? What will we all do if there is SU stuff in the new aisles at MICHAEL'S?????
Well..this is an interesting thread on that other website with the certain number of vegetables in the title. Apparently, one of the people responsible for deploying the new scrapbooking stuff posted about it there and was promptly ripped a new one by many people...it's quite entertaining if you enjoy watching people shoot fish in a barrel. ;)
Anyway, this is his post, with all the names removed to protect the innocent...it gives you an idea of what's coming anyway:
Quote:
Hello,
My name is ****** and I work at Michael's in *******. I have a background in graphic design, color theory, and layout design. I am all about the customer service. If you have any questions about anything, I am glad to help.
I just basically wanted to let everybody know, if they don't already, That Michael's in ******, and Michael's everywhere, are gearing up for the largest scrapbooking and cardmaking reset in the history of the company.
Begining on April 9th and continuing until April 28th, every aisle of scrapbooking, carmaking, papermaking, and stickers will be reset and updated with OVER 4000 NEW ITEMS!!!
This reset includes MAJOR brands including:

The new areas will include:

I am incharge of the scrapbooking and crafts department including: scrapbooking, carmaking, soap making, feathers, felt, foam, glitter, glue, paint, clay, fuzzy poster, craft kits, beads, wrapping paper, gift bags, and kid's crafts.
Also at the end of april MARTHA STEWART crafting will launch. designed to be one of the largest launches ever at michael's, Marthe Stewart's Crafting Supplies have ALL been picked by Martha , so they are the best quality craft supplies you can get. Her Line will include: Scrapbooks, stickers, 12x12 and 8.5x11 paper, glitter, glass glitter, wrapping paper, punches, scissors, labels, ribbon, storage, and SOO much more.
Now I have to say, that I am by NO means a scrapbooker, so as I look through all this new stuff, even I find myself gasping and amazed. SO this stuff MUST BE GOOD!!!!!
This is so interesting! Sounds like they are ready to compete with Archivers. This also sounds like it will hurt the SU! demos, as well. Who doesn't love using that 40% off coupon every week?!
I am pretty sure that Recollections is the store you are thinking of that is owned by the same company as Michaels.
Yes, you are correct. At least that's what the sales associate told me when I first went there a couple of years ago. I actually like Recollections but they are kind of far and I don't get over there that often.
Oh good.....our Mike's scrapbooking section SUCKS. It's SO outdated and unorganized. They really need some fresh stuff in there and they need to have stuff in stock!
But then again, this is Vermont and it seems like everything hits us about 2 months AFTER the fact.

Ok, I'm a neophyte. What's the website with all the vegetables?
deb
I feel better hearing that Deb because I have absolutely no idea what that means either. Anyone care to enlighten us? Oh please??? Jan (different one than you're thinking!)
hum. That explains the empty aisle in my store Friday. The only thing in it was a cool cordinated set of dark, fairy princess stuff. The other papers were on sale cheap, the new ones only 20$ off.

Well, I am just soo happy SU will be changing to a 2-catalog per year scenario. We need to keep up with all these scrapbooking trends in a quicker amount of time.
We will all have to keep on our toes and keep our creativity fresh to deal with the retail world!

Wow. Martha's line has been in the works for over two years...she talked about it with Oprah and she talked about it on her show quite awhile back. I can't believe it is going to finally be here. I love SU and hope that it won't hurt us. But, I do think we are in for some chages...so that will help too. Michael's may offer a 50%/40% off coupon but I know that no matter what, their service can't compare with someone who can teache you - in your own home! Go - SU!

Actually our Michael's told us the company has been bought out and everything would be changing. But I was in last week and did not get a flyer nor did the store have any great bargains. This new look couldn't come at a better time. I had just about given up on Micheaes for quality. Thanks for the info.
This is interesting! I just got a PT job at our Michaels- I start tonight. I have noticed that a lot of the aisles in the scrapbooking area are empty, but I don't know anything about it. I'm excited, though- it will be fun, and hopefully bring in a little extra $$$ to finish our basement. (Maybe not, though- my brother in law keeps teasing me that they'll have to put me on a revolving account!)
I stopped by M's at lunch and they put a flyer in my bag announcing that starting April 29th they will be carrying a special MS line of "paper crafting products".
The flyer doesn't look too appealing to me, but wanted to see if anyone else had seen it or had any thoughts?
Martha Stewart and scrapbooking? HUH????? I've seen her card-making episodes, and they are pitiful. She even said stamping your own cards is 'inexpensive'. I fear she hasn't a clue. I'll be looking forward to the new section at Michael's
D'oh! I just saw this thread after I posted a new thread about the MS line.
Actually, I think it will be a bomb. That's my personal opinion though, and I would really hope that I'm wrong. It's just that everything MS does is so plain, yet so expensive and complicated to make. I got the flyer today and was not impressed. On one side the flyer shows MS with a gigantic paper star (what would you do with that?). The other side is a scrapbook that has no paper on it, just stickers; a couple of children surrounded by party favors (little bags, hats, a border, cups) made with blue, green, orange polka dot paper, 3 paper bag animals, and cheesecake cupcakes in a gift box with what looks like a stack of paper beside it. Based on this flyer, this just ain'y my thing!
I've seen the flier but it was hard to tell from it what kind of items Martha is putting her name on!

I found an old press release that says she has teamed up with EK Success for her new craft line which will be sold in the big chain stores. Sounds like M's may be the first launch.
Here's part of the PR that was posted on eksuccess.com. Looks like they are about a quarter behind of their original roll out date.
NEW YORK January 5, 2006 Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Inc. (NYSE: MSO) announced today that it is entering into a relationship with EK Success, LTD and GTCR Golder Rauner, LLC to manufacture, market and sell Martha Stewart Crafts products. The Martha Stewart Crafts line will include a wide range of craft products to provide consumers with a one-stop shop for their crafting needs. The first Martha Stewart Crafts products introduced will be paper-based craft and scrapbooking merchandise which are expected to roll out in the fourth quarter of 2006 or the first quarter of 2007. Terms of the deal include a licensing agreement, as well as an equity stake in the venture, the value of which is contingent on certain performance thresholds.
My Michaels has cleared several aisle to add a new scrapbooking section by the end of the month. My friend teaches their scrapbooking classes and she told me that the store will be closed a day to set up all the new products. I got a flyer for a new Martha Stewart Craft section coming end of April. Is Martha Stweart now having a scrapbooking line?
There was a whole new section of Cuttlebug dies and folders on Friday. I got the new retro block and new polka dot background folders.
I also got a great deal on $40 Making Memory kits on sale for $9. They included all the products to make 3 mini books which I use for Birthday presents for family. I also got a grommet kit which included punches, tools and all sizes of grommets. These kits were marked $40 on sale for $19.99 and they rung up $9. An Easter present for me!
I am excited to finally have a local store with some fun scrapbooking supplies.
Tina R
I got some of those too, I had a 40 off coupon for something that cost $5, the coupon came off the $9 clearance item so was cheaper than I thought
Wow, a Marth scrapbooking line? I just don't see it. Hopefully it won't be as expensive as people suspsect.

Hi!
I'm not looking forward to MS taking over the world of crafting, she hasn't done all that much for home, garden and cooking, why would this be different? Bummers, too, because when I first started watching her shows I learned a lot, now I find it all rather condenscending and like she's sleep walking through the shows. But I will hold out hope that some of her stuff will be good.
I got the ad in my Michael's bag today. They had cleaned out the ENTIRE scrapbooking section and it was slim pickings. I had to get Tacky tape and it was all gone, but they were starting to put out the new Martha Stewart line and it all had EK Success on it. They only had Scrapbooking albums out so I couldn't tell much from the little I did see.
Martha Stewart was the keynote speaker at CHA in January. I did not see her talk, but we had lunch with a lady that did. She was said that it was obvious that Martha Stewart had no idea about scrapbooking. She used a lot of wrong terminology (didn't know what things were called) and seemed not to have done much scrapbooking on her own. I'm sure it is the Martha Stewart line in name only.
