Default mercury in our EP?

Have any of you had problems with mercury toxicity? I do......I've been working really hard (with meds) to lower my levels. Well, my last test came back and it showed that my levels went back up to where they were 9 months ago. I sent my EP and water off to the state lab to be tested for mercury. It's the only thing that I can think of that was increased in my environment (I was making LOTS of cards for my sale so was using a lot of EP).

Anyone else concerned with this?

Stamp&cars,
Have you called SU to find out what EP consists of? Yes, I'm very concerned if there is mercury in the EP. I've never been tested/diagnosed for Mercury poisoning but, have a few Mercury Fillings...Yikes! Hope they find what made your levels raise and resolve it. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Keep us posted on the State Lab results.

How would you know that you had mercury toxicity?

I'm going to have to check my ep from SU and CTMH for my own curiosity now. Don't the labels say non-toxic?

These are the symptoms of Mercury High as listed on my lab report.

"Early signs of mercury contamination include: decreased senses of touch, hearing, vision and taste, metallic taste in mouth, fatigue or lack of physical endurance, and increased salivation. Symptons may progress with moderate or chronic exposure to include: anorexia, numbness and paresthesias, headaches, hypertension, irritablity and excitability, and immune suppression, possibly immune dysregulation. Advanced disease processes from mercury toxicity include: tremors and incoordination, anemia, psychoses, manic behaviors, possibly autoimmune disorders, renal dysfunction of failure."

I actually didn't go into the doctor for this problem. I went to him because I wanted bioidentail hormone replacement (which I got). But in the process, and because of other symptons I complained about, he asked if we could test for this. I agreed. I have had a mental fog for quite a while, frequent headaches (which I thought were hormonal and partly could be), chronic anemia, hypertension (high blood pressure), and poor autoimmune system (any perfumes or fake orders almost instantly give me a headache and sinus pain). I do have about 7 amalgom fillings and 6 gold crowns. I've heard that the mixed metals leach the mercury faster but that just doesn't account for the rise in numbers.

Now isn't that more than you ever wanted to know? :-)

Your figures should be under 4 (the measurement looks like an upside down 'h' next to a g/g). I was at 48. My first round of meds took it down to 27. Second round to 21, third to 17 and the last one shot back up to 28.

My environment is pretty controlled and the only thing I can pin down is the increased use of EP during this period since I was getting ready for a card sale at my home.

Since my SIL works in deconstruction, he knows the OSSHA (Oregon Safety Board) lab people and took samples in to them of the EP I have been using. It was from Stampendous! and I believe that they get their EP from Ranger. I called Ranger and got the MSDS reports (Manufacturer Safety Data Sheet) and it says that everything is within allowed ranges. But what does that exactly mean to me? The doctor already told me that I was a great absorber so maybe what other people can handle, I can't. I'm hoping to get the results back early next week from the lab.

Did Ranger say they had ANY mercury in their ep?
I tried looking up what exactly was IN ep but could not find anything clear. I had always thought it was a plastic type of material b/c of how it looks when it is heated.

Very interesting! I always thought it was just a wax like substance....sure would be interested in finding out what the analysis says. That powder is so fine that I am sure the HG blows a certain amount into the air we are breathing. Yikes!

Mercury is in a preservative called thimersol (spelling?) in flu shots.
(It's also used to be in children's vaccinations.)

EP is Embossing Powder.

I can't find the file on my computer from Ranger where they sent me the MSDS info. My SIL has those sheets right now. But if I remember correctly, it didn't say there wasn't mercury but that it was within manufacturing levels. I am extremely interested to find out. My doctor said that if it had mercury and I wanted to continue to use it I would need a filtering mask like people wear when they spray pesticides.....you know the mask with the two circles off to the side that make you look like an alien.

I think that inhaling the funes would be the culprit not the dust from the powder.

i knew that.. it was in more than flu.. it was in mmr as well.. and i had all my childrens shots done separately with thimiserol free shots only because the link to autism scared me..
but thanks for bringign that up for others.. to ensure they ask for mercury free immunizations as well.

i sent this to my husband and he says it is just because i am burnt out on my job i feel this way.. not from mercury.. LOL>

eta: i have also never had a flu shot..

It seems to me that thimersol is in products lots of us have used- like contact lens solution. I seem to remember at some point that packages were then labeled thimerosol-free. I no longer wear contacts (I need progressive glasses now) but my kids wear them. I'm sure it's in other products as well. I never knew that that was mercury.

Well,I've always heard that embossing powder is essentially ground up plastic material. And, if doing a lot of embossing at once, I do wear a mask. Asthma makes me a little sensitive to things like that. I do get headaches if I do too much embossing, now that I think of it.

I just feel that a lot of times people tend to take safety for granted with art supplies. Many of them may be cool, but still contain toxic levels of nasty things that can bite you in the butt if you're not careful!

I also wanted to say that some of the symptoms you are having sound very similar to mine because I have hypothyroidism. Did he do a thyroid check also??

Yup, I have all the symptoms of underactive thyroid but my thyroid blood work comes back fine. He said that the mercury could block it. I consistently have low body temp at night........sleep in a darn flannel almost year round......lately I've been doing the sweatshirt, pants and socks thing. Not the most romantic sleepwear. I put a heated throw on the bottom of the bed and have at least been able to get rid of the socks and sweatpants. LOL

Haven't heard about the lab results yet. I guess the state lab guy that tests for mercury was on vacation last week and no one else in the lab knows how to test stuff for mercury.....go figure! Hope to know any day.

Default Natural mercury in the environment

There have been several articles in the local news in the past few years about mercury levels in Lake Whatcom - near Bellingham, Washington. All sorts of testing is being done to figure out who to blame.
I began to wonder about natural sources - mercury is an element after all, not a manufactured product. So, looking in an encyclopedia I found that mercury is most prevalent near volcanoes. Where does the water in Lake Whatcom come from?.... Mount Baker!

That is why I also sent off my water (well water) to be tested. I have a ton of magnesium and iron in my well water.........hoping that mercury isn't there as well!!

I was reading recently about the pollution that is hitting our western states. It is coming across the Pacific from China. I am going to google the topic and see if I can't find that info for you.

Just wanted to share with anyone interested a great website http://jigsawhealth.com/ ( sorry I tried to do a link, not sure if it worked). It's a great resource for anyone looking for help for many ailments and diseases like chronic fatigue, mercury poisoning etc. The guy who started has a terrific book about what he's learned through his life long struggle with these kinds of illnesses.

Hope this can be of help for anyone needing information or support!!

Sounds like the test results are back but the guy was sick today. His wife works in the same lab and she said she would ask him where he put them so if he isn't there tomorrow that she can get them to me. Waiting is SO hard!

Actually, there is no mecury in prosthetic dental crowns (aka caps). Dental mecury is found in amalgam fillings . . . those are the silver-grey ones.

(crowns are made of porcelain, gold, or both)

One thing I read was that if you have mixed metals in your mouth that it leaches the mercury faster. Don't know if that is true or not.

Asked my SIL if he had heard anything today from the lab. Said he had left two voice mails and they hadn't gotten back to him. Soooooo, I guess I have to wait until Monday. BOO HOO!

"One" of my doctors wanted to test my mercury levels because of my mysterious, seemingly unrelenting migraines and fibromyalgia like symptoms...but since my insurance wouldn't cover the test...I couldn't foot the bill. He made it sound kinda iffy and the test alone was going to be about $600. I'll be checking back.

You should look around. My challenge (DMPS) was only $105 and the test was $150.
