I just got a Memento stamp pad-Tuxedo black and tried to watercolor with aquapainters and the black bled. I was suprised, I thought it would be waterproof. I ended up using my SU BB stamp pad which worked just fine. Should I have anticipated this???
Memento ink pads are not waterproof, they are water based just like SU! Classic ink pads, so they will bleed if you try to watercolor using this ink as your line ink.

I did not know this. I had heard that they give a great impression, and so I bought 2 of them, but haven't used them yet. Now I am wondering if I should use them for images or not, not knowing what the other person will do on the other end of the line.
Just to clarify on the SU! Classic inks, your Basic Black was meant for watercolouring. Also, Basic Brown and Basic Grey are also waterproof and can be used when watercolouring. But the other Classic ink colours are not waterproof. I saw the info about the 3 ink colours being waterproof in the catty (fine print at the bottom of the page where they have the basic ink colours listed.

HTH!
Those colors are questionable when used with brush and water and or/aquapainter. Perfect for blender pen application, but I've had them run when watercoloring images stamped in Basic Black (turns a weird purple/blue/black color) and Basic Brown, I can't speak for the gray. I use only Staz On now for watercoloring.

The aquapainters worked good with SU Basic Black - here's what I watercolored.
The Memento actually does say on it that it is water-resistant * Stamped impressions once dried are water resistant and will not migrate*.
I read this thread yesterday, but didn't comment because Memento isn't my number one ink, so I can't say for sure that I've used it with water-based media - but I'd be surprised if I hadn't, as H2Os and watercolour pencils are my two main colouring techniques. If the Memento pas was sitting on my desk, I'd use it without thinking twice or reaching for the Versafine.
Maybe you could try again with the Memento stamping the image and leaving it for a while to dry, or even heat-setting it? It does give a good crisp black - I like my black to be black .
Memento inks aren't great for watercoloring IMO - I use them for coloring with Copics and for Prismacolors and Gamsol - it's AWESOME for those (all I use is Memento for those two options).
For watercoloring I will use either Palette Hybrid or Stazon. I never use SU black for anything anymore - it smears and smudges (for me) and generally just makes a huge mess!
I agree, Amy. I even went so far and tossed my SU! Black into the garbage about 6 months ago, after not touching it for over a year. Even as a plain black it wasn't black enough for me, too purple like.
