Default Marker Help Needed......

My daughter, who lives quite far away, likes to stamp but doesn't get to do it very often due to work, kids, etc. She asked for some markers she could use for stamping for Xmas but said they shouldn't be expensive or fancy because she won't get to use them much. Any suggestions?

Bic MarkIt or Sharpie are decent alcohol markers for cheap. The colors are vivid (no true pastels), but are a great option on a budget. I got these at Target: Bic MarkIt Fine Pt 36 Ct and have used them for years, along with Spectrum Noir and Prismacolor markers. I also have the set of ultra-fine tips. I haven't tried the Sharpies, but I imagine they're similar...

I agree with Gregzgirl. I would also recommend Tombow markers. They aren't very expensive, and mine go months at a time without being used. They still work as well as the day I bought them (about 8 years ago).

Another suggestion for inexpensive markers is Crayola. I have a bunch of them and I use them like Lindsey shows here:

If she wants to use the markers to ink up her stamps for stamping images then the alcohol based markers will not work for that. She would need markers that are water based like dye ink pads are. If she wants to use the markers for coloring images then alcohol or water based can be used.

Pssst add a package of KaiserCraft glitter gels to your marker gift. They are fun to work with and a little glitter is always nice. Did you know that gel pens can be used like watercolor?

If she is using them to ink up stamps I would go with
Marvy or Tombow. Both can be bought in sets at
Joann's or Hobby Lobby and you can use a coupon!!

I saw some small sets of alcohol markers today in Michaels. I couldn't find the name of the line on the package, but I was thinking they would be good for occasional colorists. They were by the coloring books.

Speaking of markers...when it says they are washable like for instance Crayola, does that mean they are water-based?

If they are permanent, like Sharpies are those the alcohol based?

Sometimes I overthink things so now I'm wondering if I'm using the wrong ones on certain techniques.
