I am not complaining. Just saying....
When I buy something I try to know at least 3-5 card ideas for it.
But....now that I am learning other techniques with the thing...let's say a stencil....
Now there are MANY ways for me to use it! YAY!
But....
It makes it even harder for me to purge!
Sigh. LOLOL.
Is this true for you too?

Stamping, fashion, music....what's old is new again. 26 years later, my husband and I still have clothes from college that we love and wear, only now we have to wrangle them out of our daughters' closets because the clothes are now back in style! They are also listening to the music of our childhood (they play my old 45s).

Ok I am not even going to talk about how you can still fit clothes from college. LOLOL. Don't mind me-I am just SUPER jealous! I need to face the music and do a clothing purge.

lol, I guess I should not make fun of my married daughters closet…..stuffed with a lot of old stuff
My 21 yr old grandson loves the music of our time.
Absolutely! OMGosh … … so many ways to use it!
I cleared out a trunk load of alterables, props and all sorts of “what were you thinking” items over the weekend. GoodWill received with a smile. That leaves the crafty tunnel with no light at the end for more “letting go” practice.

Don't get too jealous lol. Husband and I were cross country and track runners in high school and college, then ran marathons, half-marathons, adventure races, etc. until our late 30's so it was easy to keep wearing the clothes. We have kept working out but no longer run that many miles (I don't run at all - switched to kickboxing) so the clothes that still fit from college are the flannel shirts (husband) and the Express shirts and drawstring-style shorts (me), which all have "give" in them lol! So please don't imagine I'm slinking into some form-fitting dress - no way!!!

I, too, like to purchase things that will give me multiple uses. I also like to keep things under control in my stamping room. A few years ago I saw this somewhere and wrote it down:
Dread? Stress? Disinterest? --> PURGE!
This has helped me purge supplies even though I haven't done everything imaginable with them yet. I don't want my crafting time to feel like doing homework I don't like! I want to have fun with products I enjoy. The flip side is that I have some 20 year old stamps that are old favorites and may never leave!

I thought the reason for most purging was that it just wasn't useful anymore. If something is used, there is no need to purge. Right?
Well space can be an issue over time. And new stencils or EFs or whatever keep coming out. So one may want to purge to make room.
It is a constant dance-what do I like better? What do I get the most use out of? My point is just with learning new techniques...it isn't "I can do 3 things with this and 5 with that-so I keep that" anymore. Now I can do many things with both! Makes the choice harder. Very few one-trick-ponies left!
Like I said, not complaining. Just an observation.
I think I will blame you guys because you keep teaching me new stuff all the time!!!
Bwahahahaha. Just kidding!

I wear something from my college days, too, ——earrings!

I wish that someone could come over and help with the purging. I have pearl ex and perfect pearls just sitting, even embossing powders. Also, stencils in clear sleeves stored in a binder. I can never remember what I have. Any help?
Look up some techniques that use pearl ex/perfect pearls and some that use embossing powders and make some cards using those products. Try several different ones. Keep the products you find you like and have use for and share those you don't want on PIF or some other venue.
Dickie...
Do a simple combo deal.
Pick a stencil. Ink thru it with versamark....lift it off. Heat emboss. Fancy DP people pay good money for! You can do it! Once you play with them-you will remember them better.
You could do it with pearl medium too and a stencil...
Easier fun one...use a full BG pattern stamp with the medium. Using different colors dust over it with the pearls. Make a rainbow sequence or a metallic combo....different shades of blue/green.

Oh, if I lived nearby, I would help you out -- and we would have so much fun. Maybe a few suggestions of what I do when unsure if I want to keep something, or dispose of it can help.
****Pull three embossing powders and use them on a sheet of favorite stamped sentiments. Don't like the color? Set it (along with the sentiments using that powder) in a box for donation. Do the same with three new embossing powders.
****Take a stencil and apply embossing ink to it with a sponge blending tool. Dab PearlEx or Perfect Pears to the image and brush the excess off. White cardstock is pretty, but for a wow! effect, try black cardstock. Do you like the look, the color? Some people feel the powder is messy. Do you find the powder too messy for your liking? Do you like it, but don't really see yourself using it much? Not really your style? Donation box! What about the stencil? Do you still like it or have your taste in images changed?
**** Working within a theme can be very helpful. One week work only on Birthdays. This way, you will go through a slew of images and sentiments. You probably select the ones you most like. Look at the ones you didn't use. Why not? Has your taste or style changed, have you used them so much they are now boring? Maybe you have multiple images (example: cake) that are similar. Maybe you have other similar sentiments where the font doesn't appeal to you. Place in the donation box. Each week select a different theme: Thank you, Thinking of You, Baby, Sympathy, Just A Note, etc.
