Julie HRR & all-what are you looking for in a sympathy s
Under the thread about how nice Sincere Salutations is (I don't have mine yet - maybe tomorrow!), Julie mentioned that she hasn't found what she's looking for in an SU sentiment for a sympathy situation. I agree!! Brighter Tomorrow is okay... I really would love it if SU would bring back "Say It With Scripture" - that retired before I had a chance to get it (and I couldn't demo it anyway).
So what would YOU like to see in a sympathy stamp??
I just ordered Brighter Tomorrow. I will be here on Monday. I just had to have something in this genre and couldn't wait any longer. Sad to think how many times I have needed a stamp like this lately.

I love the Hope for Comfort set too! Still using it for personal use - I sold a lot of those rigth before it retired. I haven't bought the new set yet - I think it's okay, I just like my other set better, and don't do much for sympathy cards at workshops.
Frankly, my ideal sympathy set would have no graphic images, only sentiments; I usually determine the graphic images I'd use on a sympathy set based on the recipient. Calla lilies on a card for a gentleman just don't cut it, but a lighthouse would, etc.
My favorite sympathy sentiment is actually a poem and I've seen it in rubber stamp form, but usually computer generate it myself. I would LOVE it if SU! turned it into a stamp:
"The tide recedes, and yet it leaves bright seashells in the sand . . . " and so on. . . it doesn't have the word "sympathy" in it, but it is peaceful, beautiful, and conveys, IMHO, the most comforting, hopeful sympathy message I've EVER heard. I like to use my Stipple Seashells set with this poem. It makes the loveliest combination.
Then, a simple "With sympathy" or "Gentle thoughts during this difficult time" are the only other expressions I'd care to see accompany it.

Julie -
The tide recedes poem is my favorite one for sympathy, too. I also like to use it when people are going through big changes in their lives. Like you said, it just makes you feel so peaceful when you read it.
I agree with several of the other posts here - "The tide recedes poem is a wonderful sentiment. I often use it with stipple shells or sometimes just rainbows of poppin pastel color with the sentiment typed over.

I "googled" the first lines of the poem Julie had mentioned and found this:
The tide recedes,
but leaves behind bright seashells on the sand.
but gentle warmth still lingers on the land.
The music stops,
and yet it echoes on in sweet refrains.
For every joy that passes,
something beautiful remains.
I'd like to see this whole poem, too, sounds lovely.
The tide recedes,
But leaves behind
Bright seashells on the sand.
The sun goes down,
But gentle warmth
Still lingers on the land.
The music stops,
And yet it echoes on
In sweet refrains...
For every joy that passes,
Something beautiful remains.
That sentiment is also one of my favorites. When my brother died in a car accident when I was 15 and he was 17, I got my mom and dad a plaque that had that poem and a painting of a beautiful seashell left on shore by the receding tide with a beautiful sunset in the background. They hung it in their bathroom. I've probably read that poem a million times in my lifetime.....it's very comforting.
Hmmmm. I just noticed something...the reason they left "With Sympathy" out of the gift set is that it is identical to the stamp, even same style, as the one in "Brighter Tomorrow"!!!! I have not been pleased with a Sympathy set yet...I didn't like the Calla Lily either and this time it is only a word set. This has to be one of the hardest sets for them to create...because it is just the hardest time to think of what to say to bring a person comfort.
Thanks for the poem...maybe there are other favorites out there too. I send many sympathy cards because of my husband's profession.
Please send your idea to SU! (if you haven't already done so). SU! needs a good sympathy set. They have been so receptive to ideas submitted to them in the past.
I'm sure with your Royal influence we'll see the perfect sympathy set in the upcoming catty.
JulieHRR,
Thanks so much for sharing the poem...I have never seen it, but think it is beautiful. This is what I shall use on my sympathy cards. And, I agree...it's difficult to design them.

Janice, I appreciate the vote of confidence, but I think I'm on the "naughty stamper" list with SU! . . .
Ever since I started whining about the change in Bliss Blue card stock. I want it reverted back to the original pale shade . . . I even started a campaign, and I continue to email them my disappointment on the current Bliss Blue . . . too bright--definitely NOT subtle. They ruined a good thing!
Plus, with only 4 1st level recruits myself, I am at the bottom of the SU! food chain . . .
Maybe I should re-start the campaign . . . I had plenty of demo'r support . . .
Paid for by the campaign to re-elect the Original Bliss Blue, (That used to be my signature line . . . )

I was so encouraged to read your posts. I just wrote a LONG letter to SU letting them know I am so disappointed they took out two great scripture sets and didn't replace them. I haven't bought a sympathy set because I haven't found what I needed from SU. I also let them know how disappoined I am that there are only 1 or 2 religious stamp sets available for Christmas cards. I asked them to put back more scripture sets and religous Christmas images. (I did also tell them how much I do appreciate the great support and good things they do for us.)
I totally agree with the Bliss Blue going back to the soft blue it used to be. Also go back to the Blush Blossom of old. Much better color for coloring faces. Count me in on the elect the old Bliss Blue back to the catalog party!
Julie, thank you for all the beautiful cards and projects you share with us. I am always inspired by your creations.
