Oh, is that what that meant? I thought the comment meant why is a dove included in a Jewish themed set of stamps. Thanks for the correction!

thanks shayla for starting this thread. all of this info is great.

i have had need of a hanukka card and did the star of david made of two triangles as i don't have any jewish stamps. i'm happy to know that there are now more of them on the market and i'll be better prepared next time i'm in need of a jewish-themed card.

lol! i agree and i'm not religious at all.

Shayla, thanks for clarifying for me - yes, I just would just like more variety. I don't consider the dove to be as "integral" to Judaic practice as some other images.

I have used the bird (is it a dove?) from Carte Postale as a stand in dove, also.

Question New line of Jewish stamps

I thought this was as good a place as any to post this question: What images/kinds of Jewish stamps would you like to see? What about patterned cardstock or templates to coordinate? Do you prefer UM rubber or clear?

I am a former Art Teacher, turned Mom and stamper/scrapbooker, and working on designing a new line of stamp sets. Among these, I plan to have several Jewish themed sets.

The more thoughts and ideas, the better!!!

Thanks!

Part of my problem solved! I went through all my stamps and finally found ONE little candle stamp. Also discovered that Fancy Flexible Phrases has a Happy Hanukkah stamp! Tiny, but better than nothing at all. I now have Hanukkah cards made.
Next question: what can I put inside for verse/sentiment? I have Star-Studded Season and Season's Greetings, but I'm thinking none of them would be suitable for inside?

I found a set of three clear stamps in the Michaels $1 bin yesterday and bought it so I could make a card for a woman in my office. She celebrates Christmas also, but I thought it would be nice to give her a card for Hanukkah. The set had a menorah, a Star of David, and the phrase Happy Holidays.

Thanks for the education.

I should have read your post completely before I posted. For the inside of my card, I used a verse I found on Stampers Versalog. Here is the link -- http://www.versalog.com/v/

Happy Chanukah is probably the most appropriate sentiment. If it is someone who does not celebrate Christmas, the two sayings above really don't do it. On the other hand, there are plenty of Jewish people who do not take offense if you give them a non-religious Christmas card. One year, a co-worker gave a card to everyone in our department, except me. I am more hurt by that than by someone giving me a Christmas card. I love Christmas cards!
That said, if you don't have an appropriate stamp, I would just write on the inside. I'm sure they will appreciate the effort.

Some of the sentiments I've collected from my blog are:

Happy Hanukkah
Eat, Light and Be Merry
Dreidle Dreidle Dreidle, we made you out of clay... and when it's dry and ready. With dreidel I shall play....
Light the Menorah, and Spin the Dreidel!
8 great nights!
The menorah lights are shining, the holiday season is here. Let's have a party, dance the hora and cheer!
Wishing you a joyous Festival of Lights!
No matter how you spell it...Happy Hanukkah!

You could just write them into the card, if you don't have any stamps - ore even print them on your computer and cut cardstock and glue in..

For those of you who don't have candle stamps, you can make an easy no-stamp Menorah card using strips of paper. I saw this idea in the Nov issue of Paper Crafts magazine and it was easy to whip up. I used plain and patterned shades of blue from the DCWV Ultimate Christmas Scrapbook Kit in a Stack -- and nothing Christmas-y about it. This is a long card measuring 4" x 8.25" and fits a business size envelope. I used a star punch for the flames, but you could easily use brads, buttons, cut punched circles in half or see where your own creativity takes you.

Great card, Heather! It's funny how you can look through a magazine, and never remember seeing something. I'm sure I looked through that issue.

I'm going to disagree. To me, as a Jew, "Season's Greetings" has very much a Christmas connotation to it. I'd prefer Happy Holidays, personally.

Thanks Lynne, Yapha, Leslie and Dal!

Lynne, I do that all the time -- or forget in which mag/issue I saw a particular card idea, even if I've flagged that particular page. This one was on page 57.

I think what has a Christmas connotation varies by context and also location. If the card is blue & sliver and has a dove on it I do not think "Season's Greetings" would imply Christmas, if the card is Green & Red and has Santa on it then "Season's Greetings" means Christmas. But on the other hand "Happy Holidays" does have less of a Christmas feel to it. The reason I do not associated "Season's Greetings", all on it's own, with any religious connotation is that in the spring I can make a card covered in flowers and use the sentiment "Season's Greetings" and no one with think of Christmas (the season is Spring).
I think it was mentioned already that here in Calilfornia snowflakes have a 100% Christmas connotation, but in parts of the country where it snows they have no religious association, I think this the same sort of thing.

I usually make cards for all the Jewish holidays accept for Yom Kippur. I wanted to make Chanukah cards this year but got side tracked by making 45 birth announcement cards for my newest little nephew who has not as yet graced us with his appearance. I did however want to upload a picture showing you that I am SOOO ready for Chanukah tonight. Ready for Chanukah by stamping_jen at Splitcoaststampers
While you are there please look at my birth announcement card as it only got 1 comment and so I am wondering if it wasn't that good. I also have a card I uploaded a few over for Rosh Hashanah but there was not a single comment. Most people probably did not even know what it was. Thanks for starting this educational thread!

thank you so much for this info...just finished a craft fair and had several disappointed customers...we did lots of "holiday" and "winter" themed items, but nothing specific to the Jewish holidays. This post will be a big help to us next year!!!

I found some really nice paper at ShalomScrapper.com and made this Chanukah card. I have to agree with Yapha that I prefer Happy Holidays to Season's Greetings. The inside of my cards said "Wishing you a festival of lights...lit up with fun and sparkling with smiles!"

Too bad there's no new Judaica set in the Spring/Summer catty. :(

They didn't replace it? Now why would they retire what they have if they weren't going to replace it? That stinks.

Great card! Love it! I'm also sad that there is no new Jewish set, though I'm going to wait to see the catty with my own eyes before totally resigning myself to that... Maybe in the Occasions Mini that comes out in March?

I inked the sentiment in the lightest color, and then "thumped" spots of darker colors onto the stamp with markers. Huff, stamp, and you get a mottled effect.
