So it's been a very long time since I've been on the site. Before there used to be image swaps...I choose an image that can be stamped and sent to me and then I put my list up and someone can choose something they want stamped for them.
Welcome back! Unfortunately, image swaps are considered a violation of many stamp companies' copyrights. I don't think you will see those kinds of swaps here anymore, because we are all trying to respect the Member Companies and their gorgeous stamps.
The PIF'ing threads have died down and after the "New Rules" for swap images, people just stopped PIF'ing. The only image trading that is open now is the WRAK, with major restrictions.
Just sad.
If I have time later, I might just pop back over here and post the threads for you to read.

When I click on the links, it says I don't have permission to view it. :(
I took all the links from the WRAK Threads.
If you are not signed up with WRAK, then you can't view them.
Sorry, I did not even think about that before I posted the links.

Are you allowed to tell me what the most important New Rules are, and what the major restrictions are? It's okay if you're not supposed to or allowed to. I don't want to sign up for WRAK.
I really only trade images when I go to my friend's house and she uses my stamps and I use hers, or we borrow each other's stamp sets to use at home. Several years ago I sent a few specific images (5?) each to maybe three people, at their request. I didn't ask for anything in return, but they each sent me back a few images (5 to 10) as well. One lady in my town asked me to stamp all my House Mouse stamps and send them to her, but I refused (too much work!!!) and instead invited her over so she could stamp them herself. Sorry for the rambling.
I was afraid of that. I built a collection of images that I wouldn't be able to afford otherwise and it introduced me to lines I hadn't heard of...where I ended up buying a few.
I understand the angel policy thing...I really do....I just have a hard time...I bought the stamp I should be able to swap images if I want, I like to share the things I have been blessed to have!
I just thought about it...I guess when my friends come over, I technically can't let them borrow my stamps.....hmmmm
I don't think this could possibly be true. After all, as a demonstrator I bought my own stamps then used them for parties, demos, classes, stamp camps and all that was OK. I think the main prohibition is from mass-producing images and sending/selling them to others.

Who will know if you get together with friends and "share" stamps?????;)
Little do stamp companies know but from 1 stamped image in wrak from Whipper Snapper, Penny Black and Flourishes, I now own
54 whipper Snapper stamps
32 Penny Black stamps
14 Flourishes stamp sets
All from 1 wrak image or from 1 PIF'ing image
They (the Stamp Companies) think we are stealing when we swap images, well how much money have I spent on their stamps???
Thank Goodness My hubby is clueless:p
But at least I have a nice stash of stamps and I don't have to buy anymore for a long, long time.
But..... If PIF'ing was still active, I am sure I would be buying more. Stamping compaines loss, My Gain. did not put one stamp set on my Christmas list this year. But I can use more paper!!!

I never sold images, just shared. and boy did my wallet "pay" for it!!!

Stamp companies do watch postings like what you have written and will reevaluate their policies as to trading/angel policy. I must say it makes me very sad when a few ruin it for the many, especially for the artists that design this art as their full time jobs and loose royalty payments because of RAK's.
I would think as women, we would want to stand together as stampers and honor the artwork of other working women and protecting their proprietary rights. Guess it all comes down to doing what "I want" and not what is right. Just my thoughts!
Ohhh I have to agree!! I mean, how many countless sets have I purchased after being to a demo/party? It's much the same. One of my friends and I share our stamps. Usually she has something I need, and I'm building a good collection now too, so she borrows from me. If it's one I really like, I'm more apt to buy it after I've been able to use it a time or two.
Hi, it just struck me that image swapping is really no different from what sites like Napster used to do with other forms of media. I believe most of those peer to peer file sharing sites were shut down by court orders due to copyright infringement. Anyway, just something to ponder...
I think a few friends getting together to craft and "share" product is great and most stamp manufacturers would agree. But in a world wide forum serving hundreds of thousands of stampers, the scenario is very different. Sadly, the end result will be small companies closing, the loss of artists within the industry and less images being introduced. Why be in business?
I'm not Mo Manning but this says it much better than I can, please read, you may reconsider if it is truly worth it for your personal spirit to "share" images - Digital Pencil Too: Letter to a Crafter.
Read the article....it is a bummer. I have a group that we get together and swap images, i know that some scan them and reprint as needed. Not okay I know. The whole thing is a shame. I have a HUGE collection of Magnolias, Mo Mannings and Elizabeth Bell because of swaps. I will stick with my current collection for awhile...as the article says I don't 'need' stamps.
I agree strongly with Leslie. I do not purchase from companies who do not allow swaps now. I was looking at my stamps this Christmas and a good 1/3 of them if not 1/2 were purchased because someone shared an image and I discovered that I did like working with it... and then bought more from that company.

I agree. I put those companies and artists on my no longer purchase list.

Unfortunately I think it is a no win situation. People abused it and spoilt it for those that were testing the water with a set/image to determine if they liked it enough to purchase it.
Truthfully, if I tell my stamping friends I have purchased some loot - if one asks me to stamp her an image I would do it. I think it got out of hand and there are "stampers" out there that never have stamped IYKWM - they just collected images and hopefully used them but could have sold them on for their own financial gain. Either way they didn't invest in the hobby - and truthfully that drives prices up as much as anything.
