Ok, so my demo mentioned Iris folding the other night and now I'm gobbling it up!!
One question is - where do you get your paper/what kind do you use? I have only done 2 so far (one here at work with printer paper - haha) and one at home using SU! Designer Series paper. While I love the Desinger Series, there are only a limited number of designs and I only have 1 pack!
Second question - do you have the pattern for the "simple" square that I've seen in the gallery on several cards (only uses like 4-6 strips). I'm sure I could figure it out, but it's always easier to see one to start!
I used to do a lot of iris folding..... the papers I used were fancy tissues (pearlized or glitter), japanese papers, origami papers..... you want papers that are relatively thin since they are are folded over.
I will look to see if I still have any of the simple shaped patterns and will let you know....
Like You I am just getting into this Iris Folding and I have found out for me the hardest part is what paper to use. I have went to Hobby Lobby and bought origami paper, you can get a lot of different designs. Also you can use the scrapbook paper lots to choose from and the 12 x 12 goes a long way. Also you can use wrapping paper, tissue paper and just about any light weight paper. I also have used the 12 x 12 paper from SU because it was color cordinated, made choosing the paper colors easy for me.
Hi, I use wrapping paper for my iris folding. Some of the Christmas wrapping paper is beautiful. I try to get when its on clearance. I also use satin ribbon, but I don't fold it. Hope this helps.
Ladies - great ideas!!! Christmas wrapping paper -- cool! Now I just have to find a tree pattern I know there are a TON of sites to be found on google. I'll have to go to Michael's and check out their thinner papers.
I usually origami paper or tissue paper, otherwise it gets too thick. As for templates, do a search for them and there are several web sites out there. I love doing the Iris folding!!
Iris folding can be done with envelopes. Look for ones that bills come in. Often the inside of them is printed with a design, mostly they are black and white, but I sometimes get blue. They make a classy looking design. For a burst of color, apply a sequin or other shiny emblishment in the center (the iris).
When you start reading about iris folding, you will see that Europeans use envelope papers all the time. They get mail with all sorts of colors on the inside of envelopes.
