Default ink pads

Okay I am trying to do some watercoloring of some images. I have ink pads and I have the blender pens...which inks do I use for watercoloring? also which pens can I use? I have some zig pens will those also work? I am new to the coloring part of images.

Ink for watercoloring must be water soluble, not waterproof. Zig markers are permanent and cannot be used for watercoloring. SU!'s classic pads and markers are good, as are any other non-waterproof dye inks. I've tried it with some waterproof ones and it's a nightmare! Watercoloring also works best on watercolor paper rather than cardstock.

HTH!

Personally I prefer the aqua painter. From what I've read here and there is the blender pen can be tricky for some people to use. The following tutorial should help you. But with anything it takes time, patience and practice.

Everyone has their own favorite Ink for watercoloring. I have two. Palette noir ink and Memotoes Tux Black ink. They both dry fast. And don't need to be heat set.....Unless you want too.

Pen's....Markers. I've only used Tombow Markers/ W/ Blender pens.
Or a Aqua brush. I also put in just a llitte bit of water.

And I've used Prismacolor H2o Pencils for watercoloring too.

Good Card stock or Watercolor paper works well with this tech.

Enjoy!

With your classic ink pads, use the inside of the top to spread the ink around with your blender pen to make it easier to pick up the different shades.

Do you have the Watercolor Wonder Crayons? These crayons and the blender pens are my favorite way to watercolor.

When I water color I use both my pads or markers depends on my mood. If i use my pads I use what is on the lid with a blender pen. When I use my markers I use and old AOL CD that we got in the mail and scribble on the cd and pick up the color with my blender pen. I have never used my aqua brush, will have to try that next.

Julie,

The blender pen and crayons are the watercoloring technique I teach at my classes. It's also my favorite way to watercolor because I can easily vary the shading.

I use SU! classic ink pads, SU! markers as well the SU! classic ink refills, of course besides the watercoloring pencils and crayons. I use as well regular paint brush, aqua painter or blender pen.
I think as well the important thing is the watercolor paper and the quality of it.

With your SU! pads: while the case is closed, press down several times in the middle--this pushes the pad against the top of the inside of the case. When you open the pad, you'll have a little puddle of ink.

I agree that watercolor paper works best, although I can and do frequently use regular cardstock--something ultrasmooth like SU! Whisper White cardstock holds up well--don't use anything thin.

I like blender pens--I usually use them with the Watercolor crayons or with watercolor pencils. I also use them with pastels-you dip the pen onto a corner of the pastel.

Have fun playing!
