I never use my Black Stazon... I like Palette Black for my blacks. I also really like all of my SU Classic Inks.... and lately I purchased all of the colours of Brilliance and Versamark Dew Drops... they are a great ink too!
If you're looking for a strong outline but fancy a change from black then the Clearsnap Fluid Chalk Dark Brown might be a good choice. Love my Nick Bantock Charcoal Grey too - they both give a slightly softer look than black but you can still colour your outline images.
I think if you are feeling like you are stepping into the unknown then I personally tend to go for a small inkpad - versafine and Brilliance ones are great... However I have a set of 6 Adirondack ink pads that I pull out again and again - espresso, butterscotch, bottle green, denim, cranberry and eggplant (they are pretty much muted primary and secondary colours). The pad itself is "fabric-y" so you can get some pretty unique direct to paper applications too.
I like that sponge-y pad as well, something about it makes me feel like I am getting better ink coverage. I have SU basic black but I find that I only use it for real rubber, I like Staz-on for everything else, especially my bellas.
Is there a reference somewhere that defines the various types of inks and when (or when not) to use them. I read thinks like dye, alcohol, craft, stazon, versa.., etc, and I can't wrap my head around the whens and whys.
