Wow, a girl that isn't afraid of precise measurements - I love that! Thank you for the great tutorial. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with next!
Moonpie: Precise measurements scare the heck out of me! You should see how much precious paper I waste! LOL It's embarassing! Thanks so much for your comment on my blog.
Kittie . . . . thanks! and trying to figure a way to learn those lovely flowers and integrate them into this hutch project.
I took the day off work just to play and build it LOL I had to fix my punch rack first since the back of it wasn't supporting so well and I came down here this morning to find half my punches fell through LOL Hard to blame that on the cats. *sigh*

Precise measurements, not really great at that either. I try, but there's alot of woops pieces of paper laying around - lol. So, you are not alone folks.
Ohhhhhhhh I love those fuzzballs too! And your blog Lydia.
Here's where the project is at now . . . . I'm not going to show you the wasted paper LOL I'm not having a good relationship with my ruler today. *sigh*
It took most of the day to get the top half worked out properly.

o-m-g! wenchie, aka "my new best friend", you're killing me! now i have to put this fine gem on my to do list! wow! what a gorgeous box! tfs!
abrazos,

Wenchie - It's coming along nicely. You have some incredible patience!
I would've made a ton of mistakes by now, had a fit, and thrown the darn thing out the window. LOL Just kidding.
Question: The top (flat) piece is just plain cardstock? or is it foam board covered with the paper? It's so well done, that it's hard to believe that it can be just paper.
Oh yes, the flat pieces are foam board. Periodically I need something to make things go straight again. I could have made that out of paper, but it wouldn't have looked as nice and I need something that'll support what goes on top.
Still working/thinking about the last big part. I'm at the point now where I want to rush it just to get to the embellishing LOL

Totally awesome but just out of curiosity (I don't do 3D work and can't say I've ever seen it) what will you be doing with this when it is all finished?
Oh Lordy! I'm so bad at 3D! I was on the Creative Cuts and More DT for two years and half the time I put pre-cut and pre-scored items together upside down or backwards, or just plain wrong! I don't know why Terry kept me-she's just nice that way!
Oh, Wow, wenchie, I have just been totally blown straight off my chair. That is just so incredibly awesome ... Looks so much better than even the full size one...TFS
Good Lord! What was I thinking?!!!! This is a classic case of "it looked so good in my head!" LOL This is a serious blunder and I'm not sure how I'll fix it yet, but I have options.
Also, someone asked, where all this stuff goes? It goes nowhere. I've never been able to sell any of it, and no one I know understands the time and effort that goes into making a project like this, so most of it gets shoved into nooks and crannies around the house and other open surfaces in my studio and the stuff that there's no room for gets shoved into big rubbermaid bins and boxes.

Have you tried an Etsy shop? At any rate, these are truly amazing!!
Oh Wenchie, I looked at all those lovely things that you made, with your attention to detail, and scale, thinking it is something for me to aspire to, and you say no one wants them? Gosh if I didn't live so far away I would walk to your house and relieve you of them all. They are just so beautiful. But you are right, most people have totally no idea how much work effort, thought and work goes into something like this. Try some of the miniaturist websites and see what is on those...
So, I got rid of the tacky hardware and added paper handles. Not entirely happy with them but they're glued on and have to stay.
I'm not smart enough to figure out how to make round plates that aren't flat, so I'm going to go with square. The yellow is not as bright as it looks in the picture.

Couldn't you cut out a circle on decorative paper, put it on a mouse pad or something soft and using a small stylus run it just below the outer edge or above the center to create a rim? Don't know if my explanation makes since.

Lol, I liked the tacky hardware. But I also like what you did with it then. I think you are a miniaturist not sure of your directions. I really love what you do...

If you can find a washer in the toolbox that's fairly narrow (example pic attached cos it's not easy to explain what I mean!) you could use it as a jig. Punch a circle of cardstock and centre it over the washer and then use a stylus or paper stump and go around the inner of the washer. You'll get a rim and then a gentle dip down into the centre of the plate. If you have some gloss varnish in a spray can, that would give you a glazed ceramic effect.
You could actually make a jig from chipboard if you don't have a suitable washer but do have a way to cut the size ring you want in chipboard (you could stick a couple of layers of regular carstock together if you can only cut lighter weight stuff with the tools you have).
Joanne and Armadillo . . . . great tips! I'm going to give it a go tonight. I had set it aside for a day to think. I don't have any patterned paper that would be heavy enough or suitable in print, so now I'm digging through my stash to find just the right kind of blue that I can emboss in white. I have 5 shades of blue and of course none of them are the right shade. lol

OK, I think I've got it! The sample below is not very pretty as it's just a sample to test the design. I used a couple of Spellbinder dies. I cut out the big one first them embossed the smaller one after. It's going to be a pain gluing all the tabs together but I think this is going to work! Glad I don't have to make too many.

Wenchie - Checking on your progress today and...Wow! The drawer fronts look great, but I actually liked the *tacky* version as well. Go figure! LOL
I love the plates. What I love even more is that you are not afraid to tackle anything! You go, girl!
I'm not sure if you plan on taking us on another journey, but if you do consider it, I'd be interested in some step by step photos or a video tutorial on how you cut the channels in the foam board to make something like your ink pad holder or a stamp shelf. Seeing it done first hand works wonders for me. Thanks for your inspiration!
