I need sooooooo much advice..I want to make for Christmas scrapbooking recipe pages for my sisters, aunts and daughter-in-law..What I want to do is use old recipes handed down..I would like to put a picture along side the recipes with some kind of note, journaling, etc..Problem....I just don't know how to start. I want to use old fashion style for the great grandparents, grandparents and such and more stylish for the younger side. I'm hoping you all understand what I need..I'm going to use the scrapbooking size 6x6 using two pages...Could anyone help me get me started with helpful hints, examples of pages, etc...Thankyou soooooooo much....
I think this will be a great gift! Very thoughtful of you and way to go getting an early start! I find the best way for me to start is finding the paper you would like to use. Go to a scrapbook store and browse the paper until you find the "inspiration" paper. That's what works for me... good luck!
When in doubt I usually go to the gallery and see what other people have done. I put recipe in and this is what came up. You could probably refine your search a little more though.

have the layouts be double spread so that you can have one side for the picture and journaling and the other side for the recipe. Also, you could do this as a small 6x6 or 8x8 gift book
You might want to consider 8x8 because if any of the relatives are getting older you need to keep the size of the print large enough so they can read the recipes. I made binders for my recipes that I cut out of books and at the time I had a hard time finding cool paper and stamps.
I'd say start with the Table of Contents (meat, veggies, etc.) then I'd look for paper, stamps, embellishments, etc.to support the TOC. Once you have those items it will tell you the design. For me, when I looked for things I found that most of the kitchen items were retro so my binder was retro.
I made 3 recipe/scrapbooks 2 years ago. The books were for my brother, my sister, and me. I duplicated the pages for our books. Our parents and grandparents are deceased. This was a labor of love. What I did was pick out a few of our family's favorite recipes. I made sure that I had one recipe that was a favorite our parents and us kids. I scanned my mom's hand written recipes. Some were on index cards and some on paper. I picked pictures from when we were kids. I started out planning to use lots of embellishments, etc. I ended up making it very simple. I included birthdates and anniversaries of mom and dad, us kids, and the grandkids. I am always making handmade and homemade gifts for my family. My brother and sister told me that I would never top this. My kids, nieces and nephews want one. I will make their's using pictures of mom and dad (their grandma and grandpa), old pix of us 3 kids and pix from when they were little. If you would like some pictures of my book, pm me and I will scan some pictures for you.
I just made some recipe books for myself and my daughter and there are some great cooking papers out there right now. One particular company is Flair Designs and the names of the two lines are "What's Cooking" and "Keep on Cooking". There are others out there too. I would just do a search and find the papers you like first too. That will give you the inspiration to start your pages.
THANKYOU so much ladies. You have really given me hope..
Flair Designs can you find that at scrapbooking stores? Or online? thanks a million..Going to check out stores today.
I did find the Flair Design (and other brands too) paper at my LSS and some at the Archivers too. You can also do a search online if you can't find it locally. Both of these lines have "old fashioned" looking papers to me...I think they will be nice for what you are talking about doing! Good luck!
Yes, the 8x8 size seems to be more readily available, too! Also, the Flair paper IS perfect, I think, for your idea! I think your gifts are going to be loved and cherished!! What a thoughtful idea!!
If you want to stamp on your pages too, the Kitchen Classics, Coffee and Tea and Little Chef sets by Crafty Secrets might give you the perfect retro images (you can see all their stamp sets on this page). I did some cook's bookmarks with the Kitchen Classics set (you can see them in the gallery here) - something like that might be a nice little extra with the recipe books if you still have time later on!
For something more modern, you might like the Kim Hughes Baked with Love set at Cornish Heritage Farms.
Wowthanks again, what wonderful inspirational idea's...Love it....I'm going to order one of the cooking stamps from craftysecret..I'm in ND and unfortunetly they don't have any here, I checked...thanks ladies...
