I was asked to make a christmas card for a priest. I need something really spiritual and don't even know where to begin. Any suggestions? The sentiment will have to be appropriate as well.
Also, I would try to use "Merry Christmas" instead of all the other generic sayings. So many are trying to keep "Christ" out of "Christmas," if you know what I mean. You see Santa, reindeer, snowmen, stockings, trees, but sometimes I am hard-pressed to find an item the "real reason for the season!" My conviction, I know, but one most probably held by a priest as well.

Thanks in advance.
Pam
Pam, if you have any stamps that are "star" themed, you could use that. Then just type a verse on your computer in a nice font, print it, cut it out and attach it to the front or inside. The saying "Wise Men Still Seek Him" may sound trite and overused but it's still true today. That would go with your star because it was the star that led the Wisemen to the location in Bethlehem. I often cut down printed/designed scrapbook paper and run that through my computer printer for a more festive/artistic look. If you use a pattern, make sure it is "spare" enough to be able to read the sentiment. Hope this helps. If you don't have a star, think of anything else you might use that reminds people of that Christmas night.
I found a sentiment that I liked: Wishing you a heavenly Christmas filled with all of God's love and blessings. I guess the image was the more difficult part.
Oh, that's a good one, Pam. I'm sure it will be lovely when you're all done. It's nice of you to do that for a friend. I'm glad you found something that will work.
I use a nativity stamp when I make cards for clergy and religious folks. Any stamp which portrays a christian thought for the holiday would be fine. My friend is a priest and he reminds us all that he is a just like us and not to stress. I wouldn't do any santa or funny card for him. Enjoy and I know he will love whatever you do. He knows it is the act of love you are preforming by making one for him.
I just made some cards and tags this week with a religious theme. I had a stamp that said "NOEL" and then I printed on card stock "Born is the King of Israel". I used a patterned background paper and stamped snow flakes on it. The card was simple but pretty with a monochromatic color scheme. You can also print a bible verse on card stock and cut that out to layer on your card. Any nature themed stamps will work (e.g. trees, flowers, butterflies, etc.)
I hope that is true. I have not received any feedback.
We have a family friend that is a priest. He would not think twice about a handmade card that wasn't religious. He knows its in peoples faith and heart.
Good luck with your card - I'm another who wouldn't stress over a card to clergy. I have great friends that are in religious life and sometimes its good for people to realize they are human too.
If you don't know the religious person particularly well then yes a good old fashioned faith based card is the way to go, however, my favorite priest used to tell stories about his cats when he was younger and I bet he would have loved a handmade card with a cat in a santa hat just as much.
And FWIW in the future - vintage "santa" or St Nicholas would be a fine image for a religous card too ;)

If you were asked to make the card for the priest from a group of people, by all means I'd go religious. But a card just from you for a priest or a pastor can certainly be cute or funny.
I don't know about priests, but just about every pastor I've known personally has a good sense of humor. A silly snowman card is sure to bring a smile ... and might be a welcome change to the Nativity, stained glass, Three Wise Men cards they get year after year. I'd just steer clear of Santa cards.
