Default I have a few questions about the fruit cans.

First off I must admit when I first seen these in the gallery I thought they where just cans of fruit. I couldn't for the life of me figure out why you would want to go to all the trouble of stamping and decorating a can of fruit. LOL. Now I have seen that you take the fruit out of the can and fill it with other goodies and I think that is just the cutest idea but I do have a couple of questions. Is there a cheaper can opener that I can use besides the Pampered Chef one? What all have you put inside of the cans?
I guess when DH broke my can opener last week it wasn't such a bad thing. LOL. TIA.

I purchased my can opener at WalMart for about $7. I've filled the fruit cans with candy, money, gift cards, and jewelry.

As long as it is the kind of can opener that makes smooth edges you should be fine. Mine isn't Pamper Chef and it works just fine.

Mine is a Pampered Chef but it doesn't have to be that brand. Just use whatever one that will take the bottom off clean. I just sent one to my SS and put some little packs of embellishments in it.

Mine is a Hamilton Beach Smooth Edge can opener. I bought it at Bed, Bath & Beyond.
Dollar General has the hand turn type for $2.
I put mini candy bars, Kisses & Hugs, stamps, money, it's amazing what will fit in those little cans.
For Valentine's Day, SU demo, put a pair of "underwear" in hers for her DH.
You can also use Campbell's Chunky soup cans. The can has to have the rim on the bottom.

I've used dog food cans with the pull tab top. Shhhh... don't tell anyone what used to be in that pretty can.

Can use for kid's birthday party treats, Easter candy, or Halloween party treats.

I was like the original poster, thinking "what's the big deal with those fruit cans?" Now after taking closer looks at the gallery. I understand!! So cute how you can put different things in the cans! I will have to try this pretty soon. While looking there, I came across some beautiful glass ornaments, WOW! Got to start thinking about Christmas gifts.

I too was wondering what in the world would you stamp a fruit can for? Only until reading this post did I realize that the cans don't actually have fruit in them  Guess I'll be trying this soon. Thanks

I have to ask, since the fruit cans came up and there are a lotta people that have made these...But how do you get the lid back on? Do you take the bottom off and glue it back on? Or do you actually take the flip top off and glue that back on?

I haven't tried this yet but I've heard you can use Crystal effects to close the bottom back on after dumping (or eating) the fruit contents. I only have the Diamond Glaze so I'll try that when I am ready to try this fun project!

These cans are so much fun! I've used the little fruit ones and also the larger pop top soup cans. You open them from the bottom wash and dry, add your goodies and seal up the bottom with crystal effects (or I use a product from Plaid called ROYAL COAT DIMENSIONAL MAGIC) and then I put it in a vise to close it tight while it dries. I have put in hair accessories, matchbox cars, candy, votive candles etc. Just a fun way to package a little "thank you" or "thinking of you" gift! They've always been HUGE hits!!

I also got my opener at WalMart for about $7. It is black and works like a charm. I use it all the time now for everything!
