I keep seeing all these HUGE stamp rooms in peoples basements and I am sooo jealous! Where I live in CA, basements are a big no-no. All newer homes are built on a slab that is poured right onto the ground. You can't get under my house unless you have a jack-hammer handy! Thanks for sharing all your great spaces. I'll slink into my tiny 9 x 9 room now. :-D
I finally got my DH to get his stuff out of my "craft" room which is our sun room and i added another table and storage cabinet..YIPPIE.. its not a big room it works just fine for me...I have seen some craft rooms on here and OMG...I wouldnt know what to do with all that space.. This way i t keeps me from "buying" lol I am sure Maybe 1 day i will take over our lower level when the Kids MOVE OUT LOL
Ha, I'm glad I'm not the only one! We don't have basements here in Australia either. My stamp stuff doesn't even have it's own room - it's just piled up around the kitchen/dining table. Oh well....
I would LOVE to have a stamp room "above ground!" My stamp space is in my unfinished basement. I have a fairly big section of wall that all my stuff is against. We don't have walls, (just cinder block) so I cant have any shelves. I do have a stamping desk and cabinets. I have no natural light to speak of, just lot's of lamps. Oh well, it works for now.
I am in a first floor (but 1/2 under ground - the window which goes midway down the interior wall is at ground level outside) former bedroom, which still has some of my daughter's things in it. She and I are slowly moving her stuff out so I can "take over" and get organized - maybe by summer it will be all mine... This is fun!!!
We have a basement in this house, we're working on finishing it but it will be dh's office, shop for tools, playroom, two bedrooms and a bathroom. this house had a fabulous loft when we moved in a year and a half ago, the owners before us used it as a sewing room. because it's open to the living room it's not suitable for a bedroom and it makes a fabulous craft room. my exercise bike is up there also. we have a sun room that i set up as dd's art area. i'd be afraid stamp pads would dry out quickly there.
Same here in Florida, no basements. Not only would I love one for my craft room, but for storage. Florida houses are not built with any storage. I'm completely out of space. We do put some stuff in our attic but I have to careful of the crazy heat in the summer. The same thing goes for the garage, it is too hot out there to store anything that is important.
Dina
This is my lovely abode too!(sarcastic) It's so dark, cold and boring! I don't stamp that often just because I don't like stamping in the dungeon.

I moved upstairs and now want to move back down to the basement. I find it's to messy upstairs since my area is in a laundry closet. Fortunetly for me my basement is high so I can look right outside, the window is at eye height right above my craft table.
I turned a guest room ,upstairs, into my stamp room. My desk is right between 2 windows,so I can look outside, and I get GREAT light all day! I would have hated it in the basement...I love my natural light that I have all day.
My basement is dark, damp and scary so it would creep me out to use it for anything but the occasional load of laundry thing. I don't have a real area, but have taken over a dining room of sorts. We never used it for dining room stuff anyway so now its a craft room. It would be nice to have a door to close it off and all, but that's life. I can dream of the perfect craft room (or house actually) but I can only dream!
I live in a super tiny cottage (800 sf) in CA. I have taken over the entire dining/living area which is about half the house. I left a path to the kitchen though... so I don't know why my dh keeps complaining... ;)
I too have the stamp room envy...

Your 9 x 9 ?! *jealous look* My craft room is smaller than that! It is actually an ex walk-in closet. A small one, not one of those huge ones for wealthy folks. Oh oh oh, and I have to share this craft room of MINE with DH, who squeezed his drawing table in there (which he uses, so it isn't extra table surface space for me). But this way we spend time together.
We moved into a new house about 3 years ago and my DH insisted I have a "hobby" room; therefore, I have a great room that has two windows, big closet and he built my a "credenza-like" cabinet with drawers for my goodies. Can't ask for more than that.

I'm in the basement!!!
Between the oil burner and washer/dreyer. No jealousy needed here. :(
Me too I would love to move upstairs and we have an extra bedroom I can use, I just dont see all my stuff fitting in it. :(
WOW! You must have alot of stuff!! My room upstairs is 13 x 13 and I have plenty of room. I have over 2,500 stamps and 6 shelves that I store them on(they are in project cases) and I have the professional paper storage cubes from Office Max, and a ribbon holder that my husband made me from a 48" x 28" shelf, a 4 drawer cart, an armoire with a TV ,a 60" x 36" table and I still have plenty of room. And a large closet,my husband made shelves for it and it holds a ton of stuff as well.
But right now it's the basement for me.... I do have two small Glass block windows with little windows that open. For the Summer air to fill my stamp room. The basement is unfinished and has regular cements floor's. It is cool in the summer time and cold in the winter. but my little space heater keeps me warm.
I try to make my stamping area a place that I want to be. Right now it's quite and very private..... Except for the Snake my dh found in my area on Sunday morning.. So now I talk really loud when I go down in my area. to chase away any other little slimy friends.
So far we haven't found anymore. Dh told me that this was the 2nd snake he had seen in 20 years.
But really I would LOVE to have a room with more windows and Pretty painted walls. More Space. More Shelves.
Is there a place on SCS that has photos of stamp/craft rooms or areas of our members. we are remodeling a house totally and I get a room for my hobbies and would like ideas. Thanks!

I'm a basement stamper. When my DS married and moved out, I gutted his room (and it was toxic!!!) painted it a slightly pinkish shade of Ralph Lauren White and hung fresh cotton curtains in the windows. It is my sanctuary! BUT - the windows are teeny-tiny and under bushes on the outside of the house, so not a lot of light gets in. That's my one complaint. That, and my dog doesn't like to be down there with me. He hears creaking noises when people are walking upstairs and it drives him nuts!

Please don't think I have a craft room that is 9 x 9. The room where I store my stamp stuff is 9 x 9. It is also an office, a homeschool room and more! I refer to it as my "extra large" closet. I don't stamp in here. I actually stamp on the kitchen counter!

Hey, I have that same room! LOL When we bought this house 5 years ago, I was so happy to have a homeschool/computer room. It has tons of shelves, and thousands of books. Well, my kids got older, and we moved the computers to the family room. Everything else stayed in there, and I moved my stamp stuff in. I have to clear a path pretty often, but I can at least keep the littlest kids out of my stuff! :-)
Well a few years ago when all my stuff took over the dining room, DH decided to evict me to the basement! He built a stamping corner opposite the video game corner and that is my own little slice of heaven! It's cool in the summer and tolerable in the winter.

OVER two THOUSAND five HUNDRED stamps? ... ...*drooling*
I have a basement but its an old michigan basement. Basically a hole in the ground to stand in case of a tornado comes through. I have a spare bedroom about 12x12' painted Certainly Celery, I have threatened making the living room 25x25 my stamp room and the my stamproom could be the livingroom.
I had a space in the lower level of our split level. I moved upstairs to a smaller space in my guest room. I need light to be able to function and channel any creativity at all. I had a huge window in my old home...I miss it.
I'm another basement stamper. I have to share the basement with our kids as their play room. We've lived here for almost 13 years and I'm ready to repaint and recarpet the basement - I'd like to use the square carpet tiles since we sometimes get excess water in some areas. My husband has been very supportive of my stamping hobby. As he should since I haven't been able to park in the garage for probably 10 years due to his woodworking TOYS. I'm enjoying reading this thread. We all would like more space but always seem to make due with what we have. :-)

Hey Krystal...you have the same name and spelling as my daughter (just wanted to say how cool that is LOL)!
I have a scrap room in my basement and love it. Its not completely remodelled yet but its definitely workable. I keep a heater in there b/c it gets a bit cooler than the rest of the house but in the summer that is a plus.
I guess whatever space you use, if you can make it your own i.e. storage, access, comfortability, then thats whats important. I guess you're never happy with what you have. I wish I had a huge family room that I could have a scrap space there so I could happily scrap away while hubby was in the same room watching TV so I wouldn't feel so guilty about always heading downstairs and not seeing him for the night (which happens a lot).
I guess we just have to make the best of what we have.
We just signed the contract to remodel our basement. They start bright & early Tuesday morning. It will be one large room with areas for my craft lair, TV / video game area, and a "general play" area (no furniture), a 1/2 bath, and a guest room. They promise me it will be completely done by my birthday (14MAY2007) & I can't wait!!!!
I'm a basement stamper now too. My stamp room used to be on the sunporch but I moved to the basement last November and I LOVE it!! Our basement really is nice -- completely finished and heated and I love that it will be nice and cool in here in the summer. A big plus for me is that I moved my stamp room into what used to be our office so now I have a computer in my stamp room -- lovin' that!
I know what you mean by basement envy going on, I grew up in the north where everyone had basements but now live in the south where if I would be floating if we dug a basement. I am lucky and have the 4th bedroom in our house but feel a little guilty that I have an entire room just for my hobbies but I guess it is better than the alternative of me being spread all over the house

Thats my problem!!!! I can't bring myself to sell any of them...I'm afraid I "might" need it one day!!! I have stamps I haven't even looked at in 2 years. I've got stamps that have never been mounted that I bought 2 years ago!!!! You should see how many embellishments I have that I've never used!!! I keep forgetting I have this stuff!! I'll see a stamp and buy it and use it one time!!! Then someone on SCS will say"OMG...these stamps are soooo cute!" and I'll go buy more...Hello...Bellas.....and I've never used them!
Hey Krystal...you have the same name and spelling as my daughter (just wanted to say how cool that is LOL)!
I like my name and spelling now, but growing up, I hated it. It was somewhat "unique" in the 70's and everyone wanted to spell it with a "C". Most of the time I just let them, instead of trying to correct them. But my mom's name starts with a "K" and so me and my three siblings all have names that start with "K". Needless to say, I absolutley HAD to have the Simple Sent Kit "Just K", just for the K!

P.S. Sorry to hijack this thread, but since I started it, I figured I could let it go wherever I wanted it to. :-D
