On crafting supplies in other countries - such as paper cutters, templates, etc. - do they also offer metric and standard (inches) measurements? Do you think that the US should try to convert to the metric system again?!
I don't think we will ever completely convert to the metric system. But for those in the medical field, metric is what is used much more so than standard units.
Canada Technically uses and teaches in schools the metric system. I have quite an odd array of ways I measure things. All of my cooking is done in ml, L, etc where as when I deal with paper I deal in Inches it is just so much easier to say that the paper is 12x12.

What's funny is that we were driving all over the UK this summer and it everything on the roads is in miles. It really surprised me after my experiences in other overseas places. I would guess that unless there's a law otherwise, then they will leave paper measurements as is. If you check at the grocery store, most foods are already listed in metric and standard.
The military is metric simply because just about everywhere they are deployed it's the metric system. My husband is good to me though, cuz I'm a hopeless standard system girl, and automatically converts for me. My oldest son (17) can do the same thing...only not as fast. I don't think the States will ever change over. I remember back in middle school they were trying hard to teach us the metric system. I'm telling you...if I couldn't learn it then...I couldn't learn it now! JMHO... :?
I am from Canada. I'm old enough that I did the standard (inches) in school. Anymore I use both depending what I'm doing. I bake using standard. Tempture is in Metric, Well you get the idea. The younger generation is learning metric at school so that is what they use and alot of them don't know the standard measurements.
I am in Canada but am a very border town...right at Buffalo, and i use the oddest forms of measurements lol....under 0 C i use C and over 50 F i use f paper i use inches baking i use L and ml, and when the snow falls we just a get alot...lol 'cause i couldn't tell ya if it was an inch or a 3 cm that fell....lol but i think i was "converted" in grade 3 maybe 2 i just now that my husband can do either and convert it for me if i need it...lol
Back on topic, i think it would cost a very large fortune for the states to convert, and the standard will always be around anyway there is too much money to be made having both....my hubby has to have both standard and metric for most things he does at work (construction) and then the same for home!! just my 2 cents
I grew up overseas and learned the metric system. I've lived back in the States for 10 years now and have never really grasped onto our system, which I think is called the imperial system. But now it's been so long since I worked with the metric system that I am just totally confused all around. The metric system makes so much more since since it's all in tens. Everything is one tenth of everything else.
