I'm ready to throw my ATG out the window! I don't know if I'm loading it incorrectly, holding it wrong or what, but I can rarely get a strip to come off cleanly. Instead I roll half-way down the paper (or more) before any tape sticks. And then mostly it sticks down in blobs or rolls back up through the gun. I end up with all kinds of llittle "boogers" (sorry - gross, I know, but it so perfectly describes it) all over my card, my work surface and my hands.
Anybody else have these problems? What am I doing wrong? i really want to love this thing!
Sorry, don't have problem with boogers, but sometimes, usually late in the roll, mine decides that the tape won't start. Then sometimes it snaps up onto the casing. The beginning of a roll of adhesive is always a honeymoon period with my ATG. It works so smoothly that I feel guity for all of the grousing I did about the not-applied adhesive that I've had. they are wonderful, but not foolproof! So sayeth this fool....
I wish I were there to help you. Have you watched the videos on line about how to load it? I was real upset with mine, until I discovered I was loaded it wrong. Now I LOVE it!
I feel bad too, I don't have any problems with mine either. I read the instructions when I loaded the tape the first couple of times, but that was it. It is by far, one of my favorite products to use, I couldn't stamp without it!!!! Oh, and no boogers!!!!

I wish one of us was nearby to help you! I had one roll of crappy tape once but that is the only problem I've ever had with it. I couldn't live without mine anymore. Hope you get to love yours soon!!!!
I had trouble with mine recently, getting no adhesive on the paper, it just rolled back up into the gun. I had to reload it 3 times. I still don't know what I did wrong, but now it works good. I still get occasional boogers though. I get boogers from my Tombow mono adhesive too. I think it's just the nature of the beast. I wouldn't trade my ATG for anything.
I had 5 rolls that I sent back to the retailer. I called them and said it was faulty.
I thought the roll was rolled backwards I tried everything, thinking I'd losded it wrong, NOT! If I was you I'd try another roll, see what happens. Maybe a bad batch.
OK, here's a question--where is your "booger prone" ATG tape from? I have purchased the 3M brand from framingsupplies.com in the past and had no problem--but I have some rolls from The Tape Depot and have found that, at least for me, this tape is much more "booger prone". It seems to not come off of the paper backing consistently, and I get more problems with it. It's half the price, but I'm having a lot more waste.
Oh dear! That sounds really annoying!! I've found that it's really important to press fairly firmly (often easier from a standing position) and make sure the roller is level with the paper so that tape contacts the paper's surface. HTH!
Try giving 3M a call. Maybe you got a bad ATG gun. I called them a year or two ago, and they sent me a replacement part. My ATG is still not perfect (near the end it gets harder to dispense the tape), but it is much better than it was before. 3M also sent me a couple rolls of tape to make up for the tape I wasted trying to make the ATG gun work (before the new replacement part).
Thanks for all your suggestions. I had viewed the video once before, but I need to just pull this current roll out, clean the rollers and try again while watching it. I got the tape from a lady who sells it locally so I'm not sure where she got it from.
If this still doesn't work, I will go back to the store I bought it from (a 3-hour trip, so kind of a last resort) and have them take a look. Failing that I'll call 3M.
I do love the fact that it's SOOO much cheaper than regular tape runners. And I bought it after reading everyone's rave reviews on this site. (You're all such enablers. ) I am determined to get this thing to work.
I bought mine in May and finally ended up calling 3M because I couldn't get through a roll of tape to save my life. It kept sliding off the side of the rollers and pulling the tape off of the roll. In short, being a giant pain in the butt. ...And, yes, boogers galore. The ladies were so kind and apologetic, and I just got the replacement they sent me and 4 rolls of the acid free tape. I just finished making a card with it and I think I like the "regular" adhesive better. This doesn't seem to stick as well, and I'm having booger issues with it. It sort of sticks and then stretches and snaps... leaving said boogers! Then again, I was also using shiny silver CS so I'll reserve judgment until I make something with normal paper.
Then after all of that I don't like the card I ended up with! It looked so pretty in my head... Not so much in reality! I hate it when that happens!!!
My point is, after this long rant, that I feel your pain and I hope it turns out to be an easy solution in the end.

Mine works O.K. for a while and then gets stuck, won't move and the tape snaps. I've had someone who works in the store re-load it for me and it happened again. I'm not impressed so far.

That's what happened to mine 3 years ago! Haven't used it since b/c I can't figure out how to load the stupid tape! Didn't realize there was a video. Guess I should go watch it.
I have the same issues. Many a curse words have been muttered while using my ATG. I get the boogers, the strip comes off the rollers and the tape won't stay put, it continues up. I think during the last half of my rolls I'm always threatening to never use the stupid thing again. It's very frustrating. The first part of the roll makes it worth the frustration though. There have been times when I can use a whole roll and I am reminded why I stick with the thing.
