Between the stamps, the scrapbooks and all the fabric, my little corner of the basement is most likely the most valuable part of the house!

I wouldn't dare guess. I just signed up to be a demo after 6 years of stamping. I have a small bedroom that I use. It's loaded from floor to ceiling. I even told my husband I needed another shelf above the door. When I told my husband I had signed up he said, "Say, you're ready to make the patio into a room. You don't have enough room." I'll have to sell a lot and not spend much to be able to do that. It would be nice though.
He doesn't fuss much. He's really big into fishing. His boat gets priority in the garage. Not vehicles. He probably has more baits than I have stamps and embellishments. Sometimes he uses my stuff to make me a card on special occassions. He said he doesn't see how I find anything. I could probably say the same about his tackle. " 28 years of Marriage Bliss". Everybody has to have their "Thing", (Thang as we call it)" LOL

Ok sure, I have alot( and I mean alot) of stamp sets, but honestly alot of them were free. Hostsess sets, incentive sets, and all those celebrationsets. I'm a hobby demo so I'd say 80% of the minimums are met by me. Honestly I'm sure half of mine are free And besides the rest are y'alls fault. If you wouldn't make such cute cards I wouldn't have to buy more stamps. Arghhhhhh it's such a vicious cycle.
 OOh it's a new quarter. Lets go peruse the gallery and see what I need.

Wow, this subject really caught my eye. Great to know others are in similar situations. I don't think I would ever add up all I spent. I look at it I only spend what I can afford and I do not tell DH. Often I don't let him look at my stamping room so he can't see more and more piling up!

How much have I spent?? How about.. NOT ENOUGH!! I have so been trying to be good. Only 35 sets since discovering SU 2 years ago. I'm not counting any other stamps bought before becoming a demo in Aug. But after reading all these posts... I NEED more stamps, more ink, more card stock, more eyelets, more ribbon, more punches, more.. more... MORE I Say!!!! Hi my name is Gail, and I am a stampoholic.
This has been fun to read. I don't feel quite so bad about what I have now. Stamping and scrapbooking are my therapy, and no matter how much it costs I refuse to give it up. I need something that is just mine. I should possibly think about the insurance thing though. Thanks for the reminder.

Okay... so I take this perspective... If my hubby can spend $100 on cigarettes a month then i am entitled to spend $ 100 on my stampin stuff a month! He has his therapy... I have mine!
I can only image what I have spent in the last 3 years on stampin stuff! My demo loves me!
i'm not telling until i've been stamping for years! it just sounds like too much considering i've only been at it for 6 months. i think even you ladies would think i was insane at this point. once i have a few years under my belt though--won't sound so bad!
I would be scared to try to figure this out. I just started stamping in March and I now have around 60 sets and about 10 wheels. I don't think I really want to know.
As I write this there are four pages of responses to this question. I have only taken the time to read the first page but I don't need to read all the responses to know that I am in the group that says, 'Egads, I don't really want to know for sure but I'm sure I am right up there with you.
I also agree, it's cheaper than therapy and you can't send a therapy session to a friend in the mail. LOL

You know, I tried to figure this out one time, but the majority of my sets have been purchased since I've been a demo so the discount would have to be factored in. THen, some were "free" from convention or SAB benefits. In the end, I didn't waste the countless hours figuring out a number that would SURELY be WAY higher than what I've actually spent. Call me the Queen of DENIAL! When anyone asks, I just say I get it all because I'm a demo. Who can argue with a hobby that pays for itself???
Stamps!?!? What stamps...I don't have any stamps! I don't know what you are talking about. Who has stamps!?!?! I am totally innocent, I've never touched a stamp in my life!!!

I loved reading all these posts. I have been feeling guilty about what I have spent over the past 12 years since I took up stamping. I was drawn into stamping by one of the first Stampin' Up demos when they first went into business. Since then I have probably spent $10,000.00. DD, her children & I have loved every minute of it.
I TOTALLY agree! I just love the look on peoples faces when they ask where I got the card I sent them and I get to tell them that "I" made it!!!

And just think about how much money we have saved and TIME we have saved using our stamps for gifts and cards, etc. It is NOT about COST it is about the joy the stamps bring....they will go down in history as heirlooms---PRICELESS. That is my rationalization anyway...HA!

Oh My, I can't even venture ot guess. I have been stamping going on 10 years. I first started when CTMH was DOTS. I have every thing they posssible made. Then I started stamping with SU as a customer. Then 3 yrs. ago I became a demonstrator. I really only demonstrate my hobby to my self...and a few other close friends.
Never thought of insuring the craft room. I have two daughters and they both stamp...Hence, they have stopped purchasing stamps due to the inheritence factor.
But you know, when you consider the fun and enjoyment...It really is a 'cheap thrill'. Maybe I should reconsider that statement.
I retired from teaching and do not need the clothes that I use too...so I just consider it my wardrobe expense and therapy for 20 yrs. of teaching Kdg. and First.

I'd tell you but then I'd have to kill you! My DH sees it all but he has no clue how much I spend or what its worth ;) If he did I would have to enter a protection program

Okay, okay......I finally have to jump in on this one. I guess I have to get serious and start my list for my insurance man. I have been stamping since 1987.......need I say more?
I am also a packrat! I just can't bear to swap, trade, or sell stamps that I have. I know the minute I do, it will be the one I NEED!
I may have the kid's college education funds on my wall and in my drawers but look at all the money I HAVE saved.....making all my own cards. And, heaven forbid, that I give a store bought card to ANYONE! They would say......"Hmmmmm, didn't have much thought in this did you?" :?
When you create, and it is your passion, your hobby, it gives you a sense of well-being. So, in effect, it is therapy!! Much cheaper than a shrink!!
So, my new task is to list my items that could so easily burn up. How do you figure the value of a discontinued stamp that is from 1987? Doesn't it start getting into the antique value soon!

If you enjoy stamping and are not diverting money from your family's well being, does it really matter how much you spend? I have found that since I have started stamping and scrapbooking, I am much happier because I have a diversion from the stresses in my life. I know I have spent thousands, but I can financially and emotionally afford it. I think I am easier to live with.
I hear ya!!!
It's therapy for me, I'd rather spend time stamping/scrapping then on a couch talking to somebody!!
Is SCS broken?! I keep refreshing and don't get anymore messages. And on THIS thread, I thought there would be LOTS more replies!! Just checking to see if this appears.
