I was wondering how many forum users are purely hobby stampers - meaning you aren't on a design team or work for a stamp company, and don't sell your made projects -- you just do it for fun!
I stamp for me - do not sell for any company, not on any design teams, not published at all.
I do however, make cards - and give them away. I do make mini books/albums and give them away. I have a stash of made items just sitting in my craft room - gathering dust.
But I enjoy stamping, it relaxes me although stresses me out at the same time, trying to get the paper/embellies/colouring just right!

Ditto, what she said. ;-)

I am more of a hobby stamper, also for relaxation reasons. I do have two friends that order now and than. I also make cards and other gifts for friends and family. I think stampin is one of the best hobbies to do.
I am a hobbyist. I use to be a SU demo many years ago, but honestly, it stopped being as much fun when it became a business. Plus I lost money because I wanted everything and never wanted to sell the retired stuff. Now that I am back into stamping, I gave my friends and demo's explicit rules. Never ask me to become a demo, I am more than happy to give them my money instead. The deal has worked out to both our benefits so far! HAHAHAHAH!
Hobby stamper here! It's my therapy and relaxation. I'm still thrilled to have discovered that I DO have a creative bone in my body! I LOVE stamping! It started out as an innocent hobby and turned into a serious addiction!
I am definitely a hobbyist. A few years ago I was at an SU party and the demo there (not my demo) said I should be a demo because I was such a help to her and knew all the techniques (thanks to the time I spend here!). I thought about it for exactly 24 hours and then decided I would no longer enjoy my hobby if I started doing it to make money. Now I'm definitely glad I didn't, because unlike 4 years ago, I no longer "only" use SU. I could never give up the freedom of using whatever product I want, whenever I want. In fact, I'm not sure now that I could make an SU only card, I love my nesties and cuttlebug too much, not to mention the wide variety of stamps I now own!
And I have no desire to be on a design team, or get published, or sell cards. I'd rather give my cards away.

Hobby only I am a demo, but I sell to exactly four people and have never made a business of it. Am thinking of not being demo just because it is not a business for me, but I do not sell any designs or anything like that.
I agree with jkstieber-I like to make all different kinds of cards, I don't even like making all the same christmas card, so I could never try to sell, it would add stress to something I do precisely to DEstress!!!!
I agree with jkstieber and kingmontmom. I just make cards for the fun of it. I make gifts sets for my mom, sis and some friends. If i don't have anyone to make a card for, I make cards anyway. I have a stash of cards also! I tell everyone it is like I am in kindergarten again, because I can play with the colors, and art stuff. Now I am retired and I get to play more!
I said "no" since I am a TAC demo and hold classes, FUNshops, etc. HOWEVER...I consider this a hobby--sure I make a little bit of $, but I'm not an aggressive salesperson. I don't stamp if I don't want to and wouldn't want the pressure of HAVING to design something with a particular set on someone else's timeline.
Anyway, I also call it therapy... ;-)

I do it only for hobby and relaxation, and I am not part of any DTs or anything. I sometimes get orders from friends, family and collegues, though, but only in a small degree and just for fun.
I voted yes, although I do sell some. But mostly it's just if someone in work asks for one, and I bring in a few I have already made for myself. I don't like making to order.
I am on two design teams but I stamp for fun and stress relief. I work a full time stressful job so stamping is my way to unwind. I sell my cards at my job to raise money for our office chariity events. I was excited to raise a couple hundred dollars during this holiday to sponsor our Adopt-a-Family event.

stamping for me IS truly a hobby but i had to pick no because i DO sell 'made projects'
i don't generally 'take orders'. i made and sold christmas cards and a couple custom frames to my sons boss this year. i also have several women who buy my cards regularly but they just pick from a box of cards that i have already made.
i still consider this a hobby! i'm sure i didn't earn more than $300-400 at it... and i just put that right back into more supplies!
I just do it for fun, too. But I would like to sell a few cards to have more to put back into more supplies! ;) Right now I give away what I make...either as gifts or as greetings.

Another hobby stamper here...although I'm frequently told that I should sell my stuff. I love making cards and other creations to share with folks that I work with.
I found this thread interesting after reading the posts. I consider my self a crafter rather than a hobbyist. I then checked the definition (according to Webster) of hobby and craft. I fit into the craftman definition and I feel many of those posting in this thread would also fit that category instead hobby also. Many of you are selling yourselves short by just saying you are a hobbyist.
I make the time for my crafting rather than just use spare time. I don't sell what I create nor do I have any intensions of selling. I enjoy the pleasure of creating something specifically for someone and personalizing it to them. I give it to them as a gift.
I was on a design team for several months but I really didn't enjoy it. And having deadlines for cards for sale does not appeal to me either. So I make cards for fun -for family and friends, for the birthday club I'm in and lots and lots of cards for charity.
I stamp for the pleasure and the fun. I have a fulltime job that causes enough stress so I need this to keep me balanced. Selling would make it a "job" and take time. It would control my time.
I love reading all these responses! I once had a craft (soap-making) that started out as a hobby and then turned into a small business. It became a 2nd job and not fun and creative anymore, not to mention stressful! I don't want to turn that corner again - I love making cards and other crafty/stamp projects but I don't want deadlines or restrictions again! Glad to hear from everyone! Thanks.

AMEN!!! this is how I feel...it is all about the pleasure and fun!!!

I've always thought it would be neat to be on a design team because you get free stamps and all. I'm just not sure I'd like the idea of adding pressure to an otherwise fun hobby, you know?
I'd also love to sell some cards to support my hobby. People love my cards and tell me all the time that I should sell them, but I'm not a salesperson. I just like making cards.
i work full time and babysit my grandson 2 days on the weekend, so my time is limited.
i thought about design teams now and then, but i would never be
able to give 100%.
even as a 50 year old grandma, my time is full! LOL

you almost need a third catagory for the poll. I said I'm not a hobbiest as I do sell some cards/papercrafts but it's not a regular thing. This is mainly a hobby for me. I keep a basket of assorted cards for sale at work and I specifically sell my stuff for holidays such as Christmas and Valentines Day but, for the most part, I generally make cards for fun and relaxation. (however, it's not very relaxing at Christmas when I have lots of orders on top of all the other things I need to do at Christmas time.)

I am a definately a hobby stamper. I enjoy giving my creations away. I'm not as great as the talent I see here, however, the enjoyment of others oohs and ahs....I'll keep giving away.
I have joy in creating. I sell nothing. I like it that way. I would consider being a demo-I love to teach. However, I cannot restrict myself to one company's product only.
i consider it a hobby only. i have sold a diaper cake which i only charged for supplies and hated making it. i didn't know the person i was selling it to nor did i know the person she was buying it for. and i made a set of invitations for my best friends daughter. again only charging for supplies but because i knew who it was for i had a blast making them and they turned out adorable!!! should i decide to make more stuff to sell (craft shows) it will be from my stash, nothing ordered. i just can't get into it and enjoy it.
