As far as individual images, that is. To keep it easy, if you have a set of 6 stamps, that's 6, not 1. If you have a multiple-step set, each individual stamp counts as one. If you had some and sold them, they don't count. ;)
So roughly how many stamps do each of you own? Do you know? That can be the tricky part, can't it?
Since I'm asking, I'll go first; I have roughly 6,000 give-or-take. I figure that's around average, but I don't really know.
Tried this the other day, and I think I worded it weakly, so I'm trying again. Hope you don't mind.
I have been buying, and collecting rubber stamps for a very long time. I have a printers rubber stamp set from 1932 that I've had since I was 7 (that was in 1968, Mom got it at a garage sale). This set has 381 pieces, alphabets, numbers and images.
I am a former SU demo so it was nice to work for stamps. I have always kept track of how many images I own.
My collection of individual images (yes, some were from sets, alphabets, etc.). I rarely bought at full price, I earned a lot as a demo, a lot were gifts (holidays, etc.) and as friends got out of stamping they gave me their collections. I keep all that aren't duplicates, and if I use one a day until I die, I'll be stamping at the old folks home. LOL!!!!
Yes, DH knows how many. He purchased a lot for me over the years. I haven't bought any rubber stamps in 2 years. The Cricut takes my money now. The 1932 set is not unmounted, neither are the wheels or a few that I don't have acrylic for (they're really large), but 95% are unmounted. That alone took months. Yes, most are rare or retired, about half are from SU, a lot are from companies that have come and gone.
Bottom line - I wouldn't sell them unless it was an emergency situation and I love rubber stamping.
You are counting your individual stamps and not sets - counting each single stamp in each set?
I am wondering if the only people who do this are those who have created an index inventory of every single stamp in their collection. I cannot imagine counting individual stamps in a set and I don't think it'd have that much meaning to me. And I'd get through 20 sets or so and realize I could have used that time for stamping, so I'd just let it go LOL!!
Just saying ~ the most fascinating part of this to me is that you all actually know how many you have !!! I can't really wrap my head around how many stamps that really looks like ~ but sets, I'd have a better picture. Just my 0.02. ;) ;)

I have started to inventory my stamps on Excel when I purchase and now and then as the "urge" hits. On there I know I have over 200 and and I know that there are quite a few that aren't on their yet. My Inkadinkado, Stampendous, Kitchen Sink Stamps, Rubber Stampede, Hero Arts... well you get the idea
I really don't want to know...... this way I can beary my head in the sand and don't have to admit to being addicted... I doubt that I am alone looking at the numbers so far.....
I have too many sets to count out each one, lol. Some of those acrylic sets have over 20 stamps in them. I have about 150 sets plus probably about another 250 single stamps...
around 4,000 - haven't counted in a long time. Yes, I do what stamps I have but I can't tell you what I had for lunch yesterday!! I suffer from selective memeory isues!
Used to keep an inventory...been pretty slack with that the last couple of years...probably in the region of 5-6 thousand...possibly more...been stamping for a very long time and it is rather surprising how the tally creeps up as it does! Anyway, I just look at it as ...I have an awful lot of stamps....and leave it at that....(except for the thought that I will have lots more still, given time!)
I thought they said if you could count your stamps you didn't have enough....I LOVE that comment!

I just recently got a new computer to put in my craft room and have started an inventory of my stamps - but you know, I really like this philosphy ALOT! I know I have at least 1,000.
I've been collecting stamps since the early 90's, so I have thousands of stamps. I did unmount all of my wood mounted stamps, (excet for House Mouse) and now have them categorized in drawers. The stamps are in CD cases. This has made it way easier for me to find what I want. I wish I would have done it long ago!
How many stamps DO I have (DH says too many!!!)? I put it to him like this, I have approximately 8,000 pieces of a project. The goal of completing that project changes every second as a new idea is conceived and tested for strength of design. If I hit a roadblock in something I'm working on I just show him the project, tell him my concerns with it and let him enjoy telling me what I should do to get past that point. Ahhh.., peace in the family and he's really had some great ideas so he gets to participate in my usually solo hobby.
Let's see, if I have 220 SU sets (pretty close) and they average 6 stamps per set, that is 1320. Then add the non-SU sets, say another 150 stamps, and the singles, maybe another 150, that takes me to 1650. That is as close to counting the actual number as is safe for me to do. Besides, stamping time...redefine that...SCS time is more important! LOL
Since I just started stamping as a hobby about 4 months ago, I don't have too much in the way of supplies at all and that includes stamps. I can probably count on my fingers and toes the numbers of stamps that I own.
Hi!
Who knows how many stamps I'd have now if I hadn't retired from being a demo and also stopped buying stamps. When I got into stamping a very long time ago, I had started an inventory log. So keep track was always part of the inprocessing of stamps. Record the set or stamp, manufacturer, quantity, price paid, actual price, and notes. Then each individual image was stamped in the visual log (sort of like my own giant catalog). I use this for two reasons, first to keep a visual record of what I have which keeps down on duplicates (all the roses stamped on the same page, etc....) The second reason is to make sure the stamp works. There was a time in the early days of stamping there'd be problems with the cushion and stamps would have to be exchanged, one time SU let me keep a background stamp that wouldn't ever ink up, while the sent my customer a new stamp which worked fine. I just tucked it in the back of a drawer, then a year or so later I figured what the heck, and I stripped the die off the foam. There was a dime size piece of cushion missing, no wonder it would never work. It would be an overwhelming job now, but when you do 2 to 10 sets at a time (depending on the size of your order) it's not so bad.
Record keeping is part of what I do for a living, so it would seem unnatural not to keep a log of stamps. This is also good for insurance purposes, but outside of stamping groups I don't share how many stamps I own. Non-stampers don't get "it" LOL!!!
WOW no earthly idea. I have 70ish SU sets and then tons of clear stamps too. I couldn't even begin to count, nor would I want to. It would be a very scary task.
