I loved the thread about everyone's first SU stamp set and I loved reading some of the little stories that went along with them.
So...who are the veteran stampers and new stampers? What's your story???
I started stamping about three years ago after a friend of mine invited me to an SU workshop. I didn't think stamping would be something for me, but I decided to go and give it the good ole' college try. (I just assumed that being the daughter of an art teacher the talent had skipped a generation.) Amazingly enough, I realized that I could create cards and other various crafty stamped items that didn't look like they had been made by a rather untalented two-year old.
The rest is the story of many here... the life of a stamping addict...
Who's next?
(It would stink it this whole thread flops. I'm actually pretty good at killing my own threads. lol!)

I celebrated my stamping anniversary in September! I became a demo in July of this year--I honestly can't believe how much stamping stuff I have!!! I never would have thought...

Only since February. My friend was also a demo and invited a bunch of us over to try it out. I thought I'm so not artistic, gonna hate it, but I *loved* it.
I started a year ago, when my daughter talked me into making Christmas cards. She then got me involved with a stamping group, and now this hobby has outgrown my bedroom. It also plays havoc with the old budget, too.
I've been stamping for about a year and a half and I've been a SU demo for almost a year. My MIL invited me to my first SU party and not long after that I was hooked and haven't looked back!
I started in 2000. Some "crafty" friends were into stamping and got together once a month to stamp and they invited me several times to come and join them. I always said "no" making excuses that I was not crafty at all. But finally one time I decided to go and check it out just so I could hang out with my friends and of course I was hooked from my first card! I still remember I made a birthday card with Bold Blossom Greetings.
I have only been stamping for approx 1.5 months. Not very long at all. I am not really good at it yet, but hope that with practice and maybe a couple of lessons if I feel sociable enough, I will become good enuff. I do enjoy seeing all that you guys have created with stamps! It's great for inspiration and ideas.
I have been making cards for about 3 months now, before that I used to do beaded jewellry, but card making is just so much more fun and you can use it so much more. I am slowly getting a bigger and bigger collection each week of stamps.....poor DH says I should wait and see how long I keep the stamping hobby going before I spend everything I have on stamps ... ha ha... yeah right.
I started stamping before many SCSers were born. I got my first set of stamps in 1975. It was an alphabet set. I have been collecting stamps and stamping for 30 years, but I only got really serious about stamping after my sister became a SU demonstrator about 5 years ago.

I can't believe how easy it is the accumulate so much stamping stuff either!!
I started in the summer of 1999. A friend invited me to a party at her house. I couldn't go, but said I'd book a party from hers. She had a cute little brown paper sack, with kraft colored tissue, and it was rolled with the ivy roller. That really intrigued me. And now, it has grown to where it needs its own room and a second job to keep it up!!!!!

That is soooo awesome!! I bet seeing all of the different trends in stamping and companies emerge has really been amazing.
I went to my first workshop in June 2005, I loved the demo (who is now my wonderful upline) booked a party in July 2005, and then decided to become a demo in August 2005. I am hooked
Hi!
I've been stamping since I was 8 years old, I'm currently 44 (and I don't want to do the math - LOL!!!)
My Mom bought a set of wood handled stamps at a garage sale that was made in 1932. It's a printing learning kit. The kit has images, words and single letters, it's not complete but it does have the case (sort of like a little suitcase with shelves to hold trays), wooden trays to hold all the stamps. It's really neat. That got me started, I got away from the stamps as I got older, then about 17 years ago I got a few as a gift and I've been hooked ever since.
I've been a demo, but now I'm just a hopelessly hooked stamper.
I walked into my first stamp store about 10 years ago and went "whoa! I could spend a LOT of money here!" Over the years I bought a handful of stamps and a few ink pads. I didn't do much with them. A few years my toddlers and I used them to make our own Christmas wrapping paper, and that was it.
Then 4 years ago I wanted an embossed design on my Christmas cards, so I had to buy a heat gun. I figured that since I was making that investment, I might as well go big. Since that $45 purchase, I've spent . . . oh, I don't even want to know!

I started stamping in late 2000 when my friend invited me to a SU! party. all she told me was that it was rubber stamps, and being a teller at the time all i could think of were date stamps (and I thought how lame! I use rubber stamps all the time), but the demo used colored ink, and butterflies and flowers! oooohhh!! I thought colors! and shapes! I never would've thunk it! my first purchase was very small, but about 6 months later I just had to have it all! I've been a demo now for 2 years, and it fills up mu fairly large craft room! love it can't ever look back. lol

I've been stamping with SU for about 2.5 years. I had a few stamps before then, but it wasn't a hobby at that point. I really got into stamping when I was buying a gift for someone who liked to stamp. I found out who her demo was and borrowed a catalog. I fell in love with the catalog and suddenly stamping as a hobby made "sense." (The coordinating colors of ink pads, papers and accessories not to mention the great samples in the catalog). I called up the demo and told her she would not be getting the catalog back, so she needed to tell me how I could keep it. I booked my first workshop a few weeks later and have been hopelessly hooked ever since. My demo is now my best friend and I should really be a demo myself... maybe one day.
I started stamping with SU in January 2002. I had been given stamps about a year earlier (Hero Arts I think) by my cousin. But my official date was sometime in high school...real accurate huh!? I stamped a little bit after I took a craft class at the local crafters boutique, then took a LONG time off.
January of 2003, got hooked by that dang SAB! I had to spend the $50 to get the set we used, then I had to spend more to get the rest of the stuff we made the card with and the rest is history!
I started stamping in 1997 when my mom took me to an after Christmas sale at Old Town Crafts in St Marys GA. I didn't start using Stampin Up until 2003though.

I started in Fall of 2001. A friend of mine took me to her demo's house for a craft night. I scrapbooked, they stamped. I told myself I would never get into it. But here I am 4 year later and a cabinet full of stamps.

I got started stamping nearly 9 years ago, when a friend invited me to an SU party. I didn't really want to go...I had a massive ear infection and couldn't hear out of one ear plus I was on antibiotics for strep...felt like crap! But I went, made this adorable card (which I still have, BTW), and the rest is history. Became a demo last year, after moving to the middle of nowhere to find zero rubber stamping resources...not even an SU demo!

Aren't those print sets cool? My dad has a couple of the LARGE print sets as well as a small one or two. When we had our family screen printing business he used to let us play with them on spare newsprint.
I started in 1987 when a friend invited me to a stamp party. I had always made my Christmas cards and was looking for something different. The party was held by two college gals and they took orders for stamps from several different companies. I was hooked. Just a few a first......(*sounds like a drug addict!)........then the downward descent into a room full of the stuff. In 1989 I gave my own stamp parties selling Hero, PSX, and Stampendous! stamps and did so for 2 years. When we started building our house I quit the parties (no time).
This site and the Technique Junkie newsletter have broadened my stamping to a new degree this last year. You can never be done learning new things.
I have seen so much change in the stamps. Hero and Stampendous had tremendously cute stamps. PSX stepped up the bar with more romantic looking stamps. Then the design war seemed to be on and the companies came out with different stuff each season. And as they say.....the rest is history! I love the diversity that stamping has now!

As I was making my Christmas cards this year, I realized this is the 4th year I've made homemade stamped Christmas cards. A friend knew I was interested in making my Christmas cards and she had another friend who was a SU demo...

It was a year for me in November. I'm afraid to average out what I've spent a month. :-) My style has changed dramatically, as has my taste in stamp sets.
A young friend invited me to a Stampin' Up party. I thought it was really cool that I was able to make something pretty with no artistic talent. "Can't draw a straight line to save my life," as the old saying goes.
Anyway, we both began then. I started slow at first, but now I'm addicted... not only to stamping, but to Splitcoast.
I started stamping before many SCSers were born. I got my first set of stamps in 1975. It was an alphabet set. I have been collecting stamps and stamping for 30 years, but I only got really serious about stamping after my sister became a SU demonstrator about 5 years ago.
Well, you beat me by a few years... I got my first stamps in 1980 (still have the first one!). I used to use them to decorate envelopes. Then I stumbled upon a "Rubber Stamp Show" one day when I driving around with nothing to do and decided to check it out. It was a Rubberama.... I was hooked. My discretionary income would never be the same! That was in 1991. So, yeah, I've been stamping a while. I still don't do anything really intricate or amazing, but I enjoy it and that's what it's all about!
Went to a party 12/01, got a few things just to be nice to the hostess. They sat unopened. Went to another party 3/03. HOOKED......even my demo thinks I have gone off the deep end.
My mother-in-law was into stamping, so I started stamping with her about four years ago. Two years ago I went to my first Stampin' Up! party and I've been hooked ever since. I am signing up to be a Demo next month. I'm so excited!

The fall of 1997...a few co-workers had SU parties that I went to. I bought a few things and made some cards, but really got hook after my DD was born in Dec. 1998. I stamped her invitations at the hospital and haven't bought a single card from the store since.

A friend showed me some her SU stuff and cards back in 1997. That is how I got started. I did not know anyone who was a demo, no web site to find a demo way back then, so I just started getting stamps at Michaels, JoAnns, etc. About a year and half ago my friend (who I only see on summer vacations) showed me more of her SU stuff and said I really needed to find a demo. So I found a demo and have become more addicted. And now that I have my own stamping space and the kids are all in school, I have more time to stamp. Or at least that is my reasoning for buying all this stuff.
Oh, I have to add that I introduced my friend to SCS this past summer. She got me addicted to stamping and I got her addicted to SCS.

I've always been "crafty" and had many, many hobbies. My sister started stamping and then became a demo. I told her that I just had too many hobbies and didn't need another one. Then I went to her house and played with her stamps. I was completely hooked and took home a catalog. I poured through that thing for days, hardly putting it down. I ordered $300 worth of stamps and inks. Didn't become hooked on the paper until much later. The rest is history. It has now replaced all my other hobbies. I totally *love* to stamp. Besides my precious family, church and friends, stamping is my favorite thing on earth!
I am now my sister's demo and she just spent $300 with me last month.
