I just got one of the wooden serger thread storage racks from JoAnn's Fabric and it works great - you can fit 5 wheels per row and there are 5 rows so I even have space for a few more wheels. And now that I can see which one is which I think I'll use them more often than I did when they were all jumbled into a drawer.
I made open top boxes from cardboard. 2" high 2 1/2" wide and the length (11) of the plastic organizer drawer I store them in. Works good for me and I just have to remove the one I want to use.
Cardboard and clear packing tape is what I used to assemble them but if you want to get fancy I saw colored duct tape at the dollar store the other day, they even had camouflage. I didnt cover the whole box just taped the ends together. My cardboard wasnt corrugated. I have seen them stored on thread holders which are about ten dollars at WalMart buy my motto is 'free organizing stuff leaves more money for stamps'!
I bought a long piece of wooden board. I then took some long labels and wheeled the design on them. I placed the lable on the board and then nailed some long nails on the board and that is were I put my wheels. You could paint the board a color that matches your craft room. It's great because I can just glance over and know which wheel I need. Hope I explained this the right way.
Hope this helps.

PS I then hung the board on my wall.
I just took everyone's Pringle containers away from them and wheeled the wheel on the outside on copy paper and taped it to the container. Then I know what is in the container. I have also seen someone stamp the name of the wheel on the outside of the container too.
Becky you are a genius! Serger thread racks! What a fabulous idea!! Mine are just thrown in a rubbermaid container..I must get one of those.
For your cartridges..they fit nicely in the channeled boxes that SU alphabets come in now. Your demo can order these as a supply item so talk to him or her if you need extras.
I use pant hangers. It works great for me and it's easy to see everything that you have. The only pain is when the one that you are looking for is the last one on that row and you have to take them ALL off to get to it. It's not that bad though. I love how I can just hang them all in the hall closet.

I am using pant hangers too, but it really is a royal pain getting them on and off. I know I would use my wheels more if they were easier to get! I LOVE the idea of using the serger thread rack. Can hardly wait to get into town to Jo-Ann's!
My DH put up peg board in my stamping room. All of my wheels are on their own little pegs. Keeps them out in the open where I can see 'em. I don't want to take the risk that they're like kids & misbehave when nobody is watching them

I have mine stored on a my peg board on their own pegs. I love my peg board!! I have shelves, pegs, hooks, etc.
Until I can find a thread holder, mine reside in the bottom half of Velveeta boxes. Both the regular and the jumbo fit perfectly in those boxes and you can decorate them with the wheel if you like.
Then the boxes fit nicely in my iris carts. I also use the channel boxes for the cartridges.
I save the Velveeta boxes for my customers that don't eat Velveeta, too!

I have a 6 drawer iris cart that has three deep drawers at the bottom and 3 "not so deep" drawers at the top. I have my wheels in one of the top drawers and they are organized within the drawer by using the new SU plastic cases with the dividers (without the lid). This way they don't roll all over the drawer. I also like my wheels to be in a drawer or plastic container rather than on a wall because I don't want them to dry out and get dusty. I'm sure other people don't have this problem....but I live in an old house that gets REALLY dusty.
I have no place in my stamping area for pegboard, *sigh*! I use clear tennis ball cans and pull off the label, then I can easily see what is inside the can! I create a label on top that says what 6 wheels are in the can and store all my wheel cans in a basket underneath one of my tables. I would love to have the pegboard or thread holder, but I am not sure where I could put them!?
Are you referring to the plastic cases with the channels in them for alphabets? Do you just cut off the lid? I have mine in a drawer as well but they roll all over...
Yes, the ones with the channels and I did cut the lids off. I know that seems wasteful....but it works great! Mine were rolling all around in the drawer too and this way they are more organized.
Thanks, Brenda. I'll have to try that. I need to order some anyway for my old alphabet sets. Now, I need something similar for ribbon. There are lots of good (and cheap) ideas on this post!

Hmm. Mine close with the lid still attached.
It holds both regular and jumbo size.

For ribbon - I have a "martha" ribbon holder shelf, but on top of that I found wire-grid baskets about the size of the grosgrain spool and have them in there standing side by side with the end of the ribbon pulled through the little holes on the side

Can you post a picture of how you have your wheels stored in the channel cases? I have my wheels standing up in the channels....do you have yours laying down so the lid closes....(I'm sure this is a duh question).
Mine are just thrown in a sterilite shoe box right now but I've been toying with the idea of getting Craft Locker's wheel tote. Not sure if I want to spend $40 on it or if I have the space for one.
I store my inks in the channel boxes too. The lid closes but just barely. It's bowed a little in the middle.
The Jumbo wheels are thrown in another sterilite container, but I only have 4 of those so it's not too hard to find them.
There is also a system that is made by DEK Development Inc. I'll see if I can find the thread or the link. They are pricey but they look really nice if you have the money and space.
Mo,
Wow! That is an awesome website for storage....but out of my price range. And I don't like the idea that my wheels/paper or open to dust, etc.
Thanks for posting that website though.
I started another thread about this the other day, but I'll add to this one too. At the grocery store right now, Velveeta is offering free clear plastic storage boxes with the purchase of the 2 pound block. Of course, the wheels fit in the boxes wonderfully, and they have lids to keep the dust out, they are clear so you can see what's in them, and they are easily stackable. Free storage, if you like Velveeta! You can fit 3 jumbo + 1 regular wheel, or 6 regular wheels in each box. I bought 5 packages of Velveeta. That equals lots of mac and cheese, and chip dip too! ;)
