Default How do you store your "scrap" papers

Hi Ladies,

Just wondering how all of you store your little scraps of paper? I'm trying to get so organized, but the scrap pile looks awful. Any ideas?
I just became a SU demo and now I have soooooooo much paper I don't know what to do with it all!
Thanks!

I've been keeping my non SU scrap papers in baggies and sheet protectors for the larger scraps assorted by color. It's been working and I do use a lot of scraps. However, they seem to be getting bigger an bigger - not smaller. This weekend I'm planning to do a whole bunch of assorted sized 3 D tags with my daughter.
I have my 81/2x11 SU papers in file folder. Each folder has a sheet protecter and baggie for scraps.

Default Store your little scraps of paper

Hi,
I like to try to use my scraps first instead of cutting up more sheets. Most times I choose my card colors to co-ordinate with scrap pieces. I have two square, clear storage boxes that I bought from Michaels. One for smaller scraps and the other is for 1/2 sheets etc.

I store my scraps in large ziplock bags. I sort them by color ex: blue, pink, red, yellow, green etc. I store browns, black and grey together, whites and vanilla together and silver, gold, and copper together. If I'm looking for blue I pull out the ziplock bag with blue paper and see if the color I want is there. Anything large enough to make a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 card goes back into the color folder it came from. I put the really small pieces through the shredder to make filling for gift boxes. This works for me but then again I'm as anal as they come.

I keep my SU paper in large Rubbermaid Stackable Baskets. I keep them long side down, and this makes them less likely to bend. I keep the scraps in a smaller basket by color. This helps when I'm looking for a scrap to punch instead of using a large sheet!

I have a three-ring binder for each color family and one for neutrals. I have a sheet protector for every color. I just slip scraps in when I cut projects. I keep the binders in an upright position, so I can easily see the scraps and use them.

I got this idea from Jody (texasjodylynn) when I was at her house. I have them in those plastic craft keepers (on pg 235 of the catty) by color group.
RR
EE
SS
BB
Neutrals
Specialty
Then I have one for SU designer paper and one for non SU paper. Works well. I find myself grabbing for those first and ACTUALLY using the scraps up.

I would have to say I am not as "organized" as others, but I have a basket on my table that I have sorted by colors (red, blue, green etc) for smaller pieces that get used by my kids, scrapbookers and myself alot quicker as they are close at hand and we grab them for backgrounds, punching out pieces and cut outs too. The rest of the larger "scraps" stay with the card stock to make other cards or book marks.

I have my scraps (anything smaller than quarter sheet) in the plastic containers that the stamps come in. Each family has 2 plastic containers (6 in each) and it's labeled what's inside. I have converted several people to this because it's so much easier to use them when you can find them and they are not all bunched up getting smooshed.

I have mine in drawers, they are in those container that have three drawers to them at wal-mart. it is easy to see what color you have in each drawer. I have three set of these containers. I got this ideal from one of my club members.

My oldest daughter does a little card making when she's in the mood and she got different size liplock bags and keeps the scraps in them until she needs to use them again.

I have three little plastic whatsits that hold hanging files, and I've got one hanging file for each color. When I have scraps, they just go in the front of the file of that color so I can always tell what I've got. Works especially well for things that I almost always cut up, like white--I've used lots of my smallest scraps that way. My three whatsits--I have no idea what they're called--are lined up on the floor in the dining room where I do my crafting, but you could also do this with a small filing cabinet. If we get a house that I can have my own dedicated craft room (instead of hijacking the dining room) I think I'll get a filing cabinet...then my puppy can't get into it Hm, might ought to do that anyway...

I'm so glad I stumbled upon this thread...
I store all my scraps in a box, totally unorganized in any way which means I don't usually turn to my scrap box very often. so last night i pulled it out and sorted by colors and found that i had a lot of just plain old garbage! thrown it there too!
So tomm when I get to work I will grab some zip up baggies and then put them in baggies by color and then keep them in the box.

thanks to all for my inspiration!!!

I've tried just about every idea here and settled on an Expanding File thing. I put four colors in each section according to their order on the color wheel. So far it's worked. You do need to clear out the scraps every now and then though.

I put my in hanging file folders by color groups. Each color has its own ziplock bag that is stored in the appropiate color group folder.

I have all of my 12x12 paper in those plastic paper holders from the SU catalog (though, mine are by Cropper Hopper, which are so much more expensive than the ones in the catalog).
I used to keep them in a milk crate with hanging folders.. But that didn't work as well, the papers bent.
As for 8.5x11, I don't have much of it. But the little I have, it's kept in a drawer (I have three tall sets of plastic drawers by Sterilite).
