Question How do you mail cards w/embellishments?

Greetings! I'm very new to this site, so please bear with an "old" stamper from way back who left it and is now getting interested again. I am AMAZED at how much stamping has changed since I began. I've been looking at the galleries and am just blown away by how talented you ALL are! All the lovely, fun dimensional embellishments lead to my question. Do you all actually mail these cards or are they hand delivered? If you mail them, do you use "bubble envelopes?" I'm only referring to the cards that contain bows and large 3-D type extras. Do they arrive in good condition?

Many thanks for taking the time to help me out with this info. [It's going to take a looooooooooooong time to get me back up to speed.]

How do you??? by vanoro11 at Splitcoaststampers

This is a link with the information you need. Sometimes you can search for what you're looking for on the different threads and find info that way. I found this on the General Stamping thread. In the upper right hand corner close to the list of subjects there's a search box. Hope this helps. Welcome to Splitcoast. It's great here. Lots of information and very helpful members. There aren't any "clicks" so nobody feels like an "outsider". Love your name - you're either italian (me too) or just like ravioli - lol.

I mail cards with bows, rhinestones, buttons, etc. and I'm told they arrive in good condition. It requires extra postage so that they don't run it through the machines. That helps with not breaking buttons for sure!

I also always put my card in my envelope with my embellies facing the back (ie. not on the address side) that way when they mark them with their postage thingy, it doesn't press down on my embellies.

There was a new item at CHA called a boxelope. It was pretty cool. It is a template to make envelopes that are like slim boxes. I am not sure who is carrying them.

Welcome back to the world of ink and paper. We are happy to have you come and play here at SCS. Some of us don't embellish all that much but on occasion I have to put my card in a slim plastic box to mail. If the card is just a little 'bumpy' from a large bow or embellie, I put a piece of scrap paper over that side. It allows it to go through postal smoothly. Sometimes, it calls for a padded envelope. Honestly, for my cross-country birthday cards I design it knowing it has to be mailed, so keep it simpler. If it's for fun or a challenge, I can go crazy.

Someone else had a great idea that I use now. Get a piece of extra cardstock the size of your card and run it through the crimper, then put that in the envelope facing the side of the card that has the embellishment. Depending on how much embellishments are done, it may require extra postage, but everything is protected all snug.

Wow! Love all the ideas...especially the "crimper" idea. Many thanks for the different suggestions.

This is such a wonderful site. And, to think that I heard about it from a stranger while shopping at our local Big Lots store. She was looking at their little bin of stamps and I asked if she was a stamper. She said "yes" and in the course of our conversation she told me about Splitcoaststampers. I think she only had to repeat it four or five times before I understood what it was called. LOL.

Thanks again everyone.

I put my cards inside-out with a piece of light foam sandwiched in. It's the kind of foam that CTMH has in every stamp set ~ FREE! I also had a stamp made that says: "Enclosed card is inside out for mailing". I stamp this on the back flap of the envelope. I did that when someone commented that they couldn't believe that my card was sooooo plain until they opened it by the foam and realized that was the outside! I also err on the positive side with the postage.
