I went to my Stamper's Ten meeting last night and a few of us were talking about how much we enjoy Pinterest and one of my friends wants to check it out so I said I'd send her an invite. Only problem is I can't see how to send her an invite!
I see the 'Find Friends' and 'Invite Friends' options. Does that mean she has to be one of my friends on Facebook for me to be able to invite her? I've stopped using Facebook and I haven't linked it to my Pinterest account. I was hoping to bypass Facebook altogether but I may not be able to.
On the left, you see "facebook", "e-mail", and "g-mail". Click on e-mail. You will get several slots to enter their e-mail address. Then click on "send invites".
A friend of mine has sent me an email headed 'check out my stuff on Pinterest'. Having looked at it, it appears I need to join up thru Facebook. I don't really want to join Facebook, so does anyone know of another way to look at Pinterest?
You have to register through Facebook or Twitter. I copied and pasted this from the Pinterest Support page:
Pinterest requires Facebook or Twitter to create a new account. We do this to make it easier to find people you already know on Pinterest and to help prevent spam accounts. Activity on Pinterest is never posted automatically: only pins/repins can be shared and you will control when you want to do so, if at all.
If you don't want to join through Facebook, we recommend opening a Twitter account because the registration is very lightweight.
After you join Pinterest, you can always unlink, or even delete, your Facebook/Twitter account and still log in with your email address and password.
Once you're ready, be sure to click your invite link from Pinterest to begin registration.
You may have to take the option to unlink or delete the Facebook/Twitter account after you've registered. I'd say go for it - I LOVE Pinterest!
That's a bunch of baloney on the spam accounts. I have received several notifications of various people following me- when I go to look at who they are- it's always some well-endowed long blond hair (or long brunette) girl who has all these boards with only one pin each and amazingly they are all the same pin from account to account!

I totally agree. I've been staying clear of Pinterest because while I understand the second part of their reasoning, to help you link to contacts you already know, I refuse to believe that it could cut down on spam, and I don't particularly wish to sign up to either Facebook or Twitter. Not until someone can tell me how to find an extra couple of hours in the day!

I wanted to get on Pinterest and signed up. After weeks I got an invitation. When I went to get on and saw I had to go through FB I didn't do it. First I don't like FB. I don't have time for it or I guess I don't want to make time for it. I just don't like it. I don't know why they would make you go through FB unless they are tracking it someway.
So, sign up for twitter, get on pinterest, then go delete your twitter account. (Facebook would be the same...just that signing up for twitter is super-easy) No big deal. You're not obligated to use it...or even to keep it.
Of course, then you need to evaluate whether you want to have the huge time sink of Pinterest ;) but that's a whole 'nuther issue!
There's a saying I saw on Pinterest: ...because I'd rather learn how to crochet a flower than spy on people I barely know...

I love Pinterest, but I have to be super-disciplined to not sink huge amounts of time into it.
