There is a beautiful card in the gallery called Wish upon a star--it is really spectacular. It says a technique called starburst was used--anyone know how to do this? I would love to find out more about it!!

Here's the one I saw yesterday, I've done a similar look but I have no idea if it's the same techinque. I do mine with sponges and somtimes a brayer, then white StazOn for stars is the easiest.
IMHO The instructions should not have been shared on this site. The technique came from Patstamps.com. She is a wonderful artist who publishes a newsletter everyother month with new and fabulous techniques. This is a subscription newsletter and when you subscribe you are asked to not publish the techniques. You can display your artwork but not the instructions. If more people shared her instructions then she would lose business because less and less people would subscribe.

Pat has said over and over again that she does not own the techniques. She does, however, own her words. What was posted upthread was as close to a cut and paste of the words directly from the TJ newsletter as I have seen recently. I have reported the post to the moderators of this site because IMO it is unfair for her copyright to be violated.
I am sure that Pat can't control if people used *their own words* to describe a technique. That doesn't mean omitting a word here or there. It means just like in school where we had to read the source material and formulate our own thoughts. It's plagiarism in school; copyright violation elsewhere - equally wrong though.
That being said, in a way I agree with you that it isn't fair for the duly paid subscribers to this site to get the freebie so soon after it hit the newsstands, so to speak.

Actually, ther WERE different techniques. If you look at the original technique from "Our Stamping Studio", bouncing brayer has a jagged look to it. Starburst from the TJNL is smooth.

I am humbled that you liked the card! Thanks!! If you think that technique is great, you should really consider becoming a Technique Junkie. This is just a very small sample of the great techniques you can learn from Pat.
I am sorry for Pat that entire directions were posted by another member. Her business cannot grow nor survive if we all share every detail. If she wasn't around, great techniques like this would be harder to come by! I am a Junkie, you can be a Junkie too!! Go to her site! www.patstamps.com

I just come across doing the stars with StazOn last month when I bought it, before that I used salt and water or Versa Mark to make them. I'm not even going to ask if Pat does it the same way!

Roxie, don't worry. You didn't post WORD FOR WORD instructions like someone else did upthread. I appreciated you posting the card because I missed it in the gallery and it is really something pretty!

Thanks, Rox71!! I did the stars differently. I used a Bic White Out pen. Pretty simple but it only works on cards where it won't sink into the paper. Then I also used a light blue gel pen for the lighter stars that look like they are in the background. Just got done making my 8 of this card!

It's kind of fun to be the center of attention! I've never had it happen quite like this before!! I'm just tickled pink that everyone likes the darn thing! It's even more fun to see comments from the "Big" girls (DDD).

Wheeew, I’m glad I didn’t cross the line by accident!
I decided I better not check into Pat's website because all my gallery descriptions are pretty detailed instructions on how to. It’s just easier than answering so many PM’s like I did with the Night Moose and Night Drive (deer in the headlights) and a few others. They were my experiments that worked and I don’t mind sharing. That’s the fun of this website but they are mine to share!
Ann did you save the same Webshots photo I need to make this card? That’s also where I got my idea for lightening behind the elephants!
I would hate to see that you wouldn't want to check it out. Like I said before, it's like doing a research paper at school. You have to put stuff in your own words and not cut and paste like the other poster did. It's all good to be detailed, just use your words like I know you would.

Webshots photo? Was there one? I just did it from my head! I think I saw this concept a couple of years ago....who knows where. When I found my three trees stamp, it just worked perfectly.

I highly recommend the TJ newsletter. It's really inexpensive and she has great ideas. IMO it's better than some of the magazines out there because they just have card after card and don't really focus on techniques.

If you're using the VersaMark from the reinker or pad it won't dry on high glossy paper. I left it over night and it still wasn't dry. So the brayer will pick it up and put it where you don't want it.

Is this the SU glossy? You could emboss the "stars" couldn't you?

No it wasn't, but test it before doing an entire card just in case. Yes embossing might work too, I don't see why not.
We get a great deal of cardstock donated by a print shop for our charity work so this is what I was using. Some of it is very high quality and some not. Some will change the color of the ink so my guess on that is maybe not acid free, who knows! But it's fun to experiment with and hey, it's free and for a good cause!

Heidi.....I did try embossing the stars but couldn't get them small enough for my liking. The paper I used was exact matte coated. Reacts a lot like glossy but has a matte finish. It is made by Wausau Paper Company. I buy it a ream at a time. It really works good for those photo stamps as well.

Since we'll be living in the same neck of the woods, I'm curious where you buy it. When I lived there, I loved Paper Plus in Tigard. Loooooved the Astrobright Stardust CS and envies!

If you haven't tried the Astrobright Stardust, it's great for the main body of the card and looks like SU's confetti white, flecks of color all over. A whole ream is only about $10 or $11. I don't like stamping on it, or especially watercoloring, but then I'm addicted to the ultrasmooth.
How did she do that?
