I've got a friend moving into a brand-new house in a couple of weeks, and I want to make her a little something for a housewarming gift. This is not her first home, so some of those typical first-timer presents are things she already owns. Any ideas? I don't want to spend too much $$ either. Oh, and she is a cardmaker, too, so it's gotta be something cute. ;)
How about a stamped candle? I've done those for housewarming and people generally have liked them. You could also buy a bottle of inexpensive wine and make a nice tag for it.
You could also bake something and put it in a cute stamped container.
Is the new house larger than her previous home? Did she perhaps get an additional bedroom and/or bathroom and be in need linens? Are the colors different from her old home? I get tired of colors quickly so usually have a new scheme whenever we move.
Having recently downsized (yet still unpacking 10 years of stuff!) I would love giftcards to area restaurants so my momentum doesn't have to stop because it's time to cook dinner (plus there wouldn't be any cleanup).
A plant is almost always welcome (unless there are allergy issues). Perhaps a bottle of champagne or a scrapbook with pre-made pages to document their new home (front door, deck, backyard, each major room)?
How about return address labels, you could print off the address from the computer onto blank labels, then stamp to embellish them. Or make her some We've Moved postcards or cards with her new address on them.
I immediately thought of making a framed sign with their last name or Welcome. There are some nice examples in the gallery, I'll see if I can find one and link it. OK- here is a link to the entire framed art gallery! Hope you get some ideas.
Sorry, but my vote would be for a gift card to your local hardware or home improvement store. It may not be fun or cute or something you made yourself, but trust me it will be most appreciated.
You can always make a nice gift card holder for it. :p There are a lot of samples on this site.
I went to a housewarming just last week. They got a home not far from the ocean that they will eventually retire to. So, I stamped coasters with seashells on them, and added a bottle of wine to the gift. I think it was perfect. If I had had time, I would have added 10 or 15 plain and simple Thank You notes with envelopes.
Hiya what about an altered mirror, you can get an inexpensive mirror[ikea] and alter it yourself,or what about a pretty handmade notepad/holder for the kitchen, there are so many jobs to do when moving into a new house a notepad and pen always come in handy!! xx jo xx

I was thinking about doing that, but then I thought maybe I should be a bit more crafty!

Love this idea and never would have thought about it. Thanks so much!
make her a "Home Repair Sanity Saving Kit"
get a cheap little toolbox (i see them for about $2-$4 at the junk/$1 store), you can add rubons to it. Fill it with packets of Tylenol, band-aids, instant coffee, chocolate, and a card to the local Home Depot(if all else fails LOL)

or, if she hads a backyard, Target's Dollar Spot has some cute plant stakes (silver or copper colored) and plant pots, you could alter them with paint or StazOn ink...
Coasters are always nice, or a candle, because with all the crazy unpacking, they don't take too much room in the house.
